Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11150

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states about this saying of Allah Almighty (Allah Almighty says:) "None knows them except a few." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I am one of those few. (That is, the names of the People of the Cave are these:) Maksimilina; Malikha, who is the one who was sent to the city with the silver coins; Martunus; Yathbunus; Dardunus; Kafastitus; and Mitnusiyus, who is the shepherd. And the dog, whose name was Qitmir al-Kurdi, and Farq al-Qibti; however, Farq al-Qibti became the well-known one. Abu Abd al-Rahman says: My father told me: It has reached me that whoever writes these names on something and then throws it into a place that is burning, the burning fire will be extinguished.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin Abi Rawq, who is da'if (weak).
