عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : أَرَأَيْتَ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : كَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ مَنِ الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ ؟ قَالَ : " الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى " . قَالَ : الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عِضِينَ مَا عِضِينُ ؟ قَالَ : " آمَنُوا بِبَعْضٍ وَكَفَرُوا بِبَعْضٍ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَفِيهِ حَبِيبُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he said: What do you say about this saying of Allah Almighty: "Just as We sent down upon those who divided"? So who are these people who divided? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Jews and the Christians. He said: Allah Almighty has also said: "Those who made the Qur'an into parts ('idin)." So what is meant here by 'idin? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That they believe in part of it and deny part of it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Habib bin Hassan, who is da'if (weak).
