قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ

عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - أَنَّ قَومًا مِنَ الْعَرَبِ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَأَسْلَمُوا ، وَأَصَابَهُمْ وَبَاءُ الْمَدِينَةِ حُمَّاهَا ، فَأُرْكِسُوا فَخَرَجُوا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُمْ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ - يَعْنِي أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالُوا لَهُمْ : مَا لَكُمْ رَجَعْتُمْ ؟ قَالُوا : أَصَابَنَا وَبَاءُ الْمَدِينَةِ فَاجْتَوَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ . فَقَالَ : مَا لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ ؟ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : نَافَقُوا ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : لَمْ يُنَافِقُوا هُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللَّهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا - الْآيَةَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَفِيهِ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَهُوَ مُدَلِّسٌ ، وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ أَبِيهِ .

Sayyiduna Abdul Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The people of an Arab tribe came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah and accepted Islam. The epidemic of Madinah overtook them and they fell ill with fever. They were sent back, and they left Madinah. There they met some of the Companions, who asked them: "Why have you gone back?" They said: "The epidemic of Madinah overtook us; the climate of Madinah did not suit us." They said: "Is there not an excellent example for you in the way of the Messenger of Allah?" Some of them said: "These people have become hypocrites," and some said: "They have not become hypocrites; they are Muslims." So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "What is the matter with you that you have become two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah Almighty has turned them back because of what they earned?"
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain contains Ibn Ishaq, who is a mudallis, and the narrator Abu Salamah did not hear from his father.
