Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Khaythamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I stayed behind from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I entered a garden and saw there a shelter that had been sprinkled with water, and I saw my wife. I said: "This is not fair: the Messenger of Allah is in the heat, while I am in the shade and in comfort." Then I got up and went to my camel and made it ready; then I went to the dates and took them along as provision for the journey. My wife asked me: "O Abu Khuthaymah, where are you heading?" I set off to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Somewhere on the way Umayr met me, and I said: "You are a bold man, I know this. I am going to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I am a sinful man, so stay behind me, until I can be alone with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Umayr left me. When I came near the army and the people saw me, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let it be Abu Khuthaymah." When I arrived I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I was close to being ruined." Then I told him about my situation, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke words of goodness about me and prayed for me.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, and he is da'if (weak).
