It is reported about Masruq that he said to the son of Ibn Abi Mu'ayt: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us, and he was not one who lied; he told us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that your father's neck be struck while he was bound. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him, and he asked: "Who will look after the children after me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Fire will be theirs." (Then Masruq said to the son of Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt:) "Sufficient for you is what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased with for you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
