Hadith 62

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us towards the tribe of Huraqa. We attacked them in the morning and defeated them. Then I and another Ansari companion confronted a man from this tribe (Mirdas bin Amr). When we overpowered him, he began to say "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah). The Ansari immediately stopped, but I killed him with my spear. When we returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this. He asked, "Usama, did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" I replied, "He only said it to save himself (he did not say it from his heart)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating, "Did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" until I wished that I had not accepted Islam before that day.

Brief Explanation
Narrator of the Hadith: Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd bin Harithah radi Allahu anhu was the beloved servant of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the son of Sayyiduna Zayd radi Allahu anhu, who was the adopted son of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. His mother, Umm Ayman radi Allahu anha, had raised the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The last army that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam organized during his blessed life, in which Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu and other senior Companions were present, was commanded by Sayyiduna Usamah radi Allahu anhu. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam loved him greatly. He once took him and Sayyiduna Hasan radi Allahu anhu and said, "O Allah, I love both of them, so You also love them." He narrated 128 ahadith. He passed away during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah radi Allahu anhu.
