Hadith 359

359 صحيح حديث أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ: اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا؛ فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ، نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ، فَهُوَ أَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ، وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الزَّمْهَرِيرِ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the heat becomes intense, perform the prayer at a cooler time, because the severity of heat is due to the boiling of the Hellfire. Hell complained to its Lord, saying: O my Lord, some parts of mine have consumed other parts due to the intensity of the heat. So Allah, the Exalted, allowed it two breaths: one breath in the winter and one breath in the summer. Thus, the extreme heat and extreme cold that you experience are due to this.
Brief Explanation
Qurtubi says that there is no difficulty in taking this matter upon its apparent reality. And when the Truthful and Trusted (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has informed us of a permissible matter, then there is no need for any interpretation. In the Noble Qur’an it is stated: “On the Day of Resurrection, We will ask Hell, ‘Are you filled?’ It will reply, ‘Is there any more (to come)?’” (Raaz)
