Al-Fath ar-Rabbani 8098 — on the Prohibition of Seeking Fame
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ لَبِسَ ثَوْبَ شُهْرَةٍ فِي الْدُّنْيَا أَلْبَسَهُ اللَّهُ ثَوْبَ مَذَلَّةٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wears a garment of fame in this world, Allah Almighty will clothe him with a garment of humiliation on the Day of Resurrection.
