Al-Fath ar-Rabbani 779 — The Third Section on Ablution for One

عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّ الْعَيْنَ وَكَاءُ السَّهْوِ، فَإِذَا نَامَتِ الْعَيْنَانِ اسْتَطْلَقَ الْوِكَاءُ))

Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, the eye is a strap for the anus, so when the eyes sleep, the strap is loosened.
