Hadith 7689

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prescribe olive oil and wars herb for the illness of pneumonia. Imam Qatadah said: Drops should be put into the side of the mouth where the complaint of illness is.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There are two types of pleurisy (dhat al-janb). One is when swelling occurs within the intestines and bones in the side; this is called true pleurisy (haqiqi dhat al-janb). The second type of pleurisy is when thick air (ghaliz hawa) develops in the side, causing severe discomfort and pain. From this pleurisy, illnesses such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, and pain within the flesh arise. Its treatment has been mentioned in the following hadith explanation: Indian costus (‘ud hindī) should be thoroughly pounded and made fine, then mixed with warm olive oil and applied to the area of pain, or given to the patient to lick. This is very beneficial, and it also strengthens the limbs.
