Chapter on the Recommendation of Washing the Hands Before Rinsing the Mouth and Its Emphasis for Night Sleep
Al-Fath ar-Rabbani 638 — on the Recommendation of Washing the Hands
عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ وَاسْتَوْكَفَ ثَلَاثًا أَيْ غَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ (زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ) يَعْنِي غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، فَقُلْتُ لِشُعْبَةَ: أَدْخَلَهُمَا فِي الْإِنَاءِ أَوْ غَسَلَهُمَا خَارِجًا؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution and pour water three times, that is, he washed his palms three times. In another narration it is stated: that is, he washed his hands three times. I asked Imam Shu’bah: “Did he put his hands inside the vessel or did he wash them outside the vessel?” He said: “That I do not know.”
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It has already been mentioned in several previous hadiths that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to wash his hands three times at the beginning of ablution (wudu).
