عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ بِسَعْدٍ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ، فَقَالَ: ((مَا هَذَا السَّرَفُ يَا سَعْدُ؟)) قَالَ: أَفِي الْوُضُوءِ سَرَفٌ؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ عَلَى نَهْرٍ جَارٍ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was performing ablution. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Sa’d! What is this extravagance?” He said: “Is there extravagance even in ablution?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “Yes, even if you are at a flowing river.”
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the following chapters, the complete method of ablution (wudu) will be described. It is not permissible to wash the limbs more than three times, and it is essential to completely avoid doubts and misgivings (waswasah) regarding purification (taharah), otherwise Shaytan creates many difficulties.
