عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ)) قَالَ: فَكَانَ زَيْدٌ يَرُوحُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَسِوَاكُهُ عَلَى أُذُنِهِ بِمَوْضِعِ قَلَمِ الْكَاتِبِ، مَا تُقَامُ صَلَاةٌ إِلَّا اسْتَاكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If I had not feared hardship for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to use the miswak with every prayer." When Sayyiduna Zayd, may Allah be pleased with him, would come to the mosque, the miswak would be on his ear like a scribe's pen, and whenever the prayer was established, he would use the miswak before the prayer.
