عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُمَا غَادِيَانِ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ: كَيْفَ كُنْتُمْ تَصْنَعُونَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ يَعْنِي يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: كُنَّا يُهِلُّ الْمُهِلُّ مِنَّا فَلَا يُنْكَرُ عَلَيْهِ وَيُكَبِّرُ الْمُكَبِّرُ مِنَّا وَلَا يُنْكَرُ عَلَيْهِ
Muhammad bin Abi Bakr Thaqafi asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) this question when both of them were going towards Arafah: "What would you people do on the Day of Arafah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Some of us would recite the Talbiyah, and no one would object to him, and some would recite the Takbir, and no one would object to him either."
