عَنْ خُبَيْبٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَمَّتِي تَقُولُ وَكَانَتْ حَجَّتْ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((إِنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ يُنَادِي بِلَيْلٍ فَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يُنَادِيَ بِلَالٌ أَوْ، إِنَّ بِلَالًا يُنَادِي بِلَيْلٍ فَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يُنَادِيَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ))، وَكَانَ يَصْعَدُ هَذَا وَيَنْزِلُ هَذَا فَنَتَعَلَّقُ بِهِ فَنَقُولُ: كَمَا أَنْتَ حَتَّى نَتَسَحَّرَ
Khubaib says: I heard from my paternal aunt (Sayyida Anisah, may Allah be pleased with her), who had also performed Hajj with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer at night, so you may continue eating and drinking until Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer. Or the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer at night, so you may continue eating and drinking until Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer. (There was only a slight interval between the two calls to prayer; as soon as one would come down after giving the call, the other would ascend to give it. Sometimes, we would cling to the second muezzin and say: Wait a little so that we may finish our pre-dawn meal.)
