عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: عَنِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْغُلُوِّطَاتِ، قَالَ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ: الْغُلُوِّطَاتُ شِدَادُ الْمَسَائِلِ وَصِعَابُهَا (مسند أحمد: 24087)
A companion (and according to one narration, Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade ambiguous statements. Imam Awza’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: By “ghuluwtat” are meant difficult and complicated issues.

Benefits: … By this are meant those questions and matters through which the people of knowledge are caused to fall into error, or those ambiguous and unclear matters by which deception is intended.
