عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أَمَا خِفْتَ أَنْ أُقْعِدَ لَكَ رَجُلًا فَيَقْتُلَكَ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتِ لِتَفْعَلِيهِ وَأَنَا فِي بَيْتِ أَمَانٍ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَعْنِي ”الْإِيمَانُ قَيْدُ الْفَتْكِ“ كَيْفَ أَنَا فِي الَّذِي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكِ وَفِي حَوَائِجِكِ قَالَتْ صَالِحٌ قَالَ فَدَعِينَا وَإِيَّاهُمْ حَتَّى نَلْقَى رَبَّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
It is narrated from Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: "Are you not afraid that I might set someone to lie in wait for you who would kill you?" He said: "You would not do such a thing, because I am in the center of protection and security, and I have heard from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: 'Faith prevents one from killing someone unknowingly.' How is my attitude towards you and your needs?" Sayyidah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "It is fine." Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then leave my matters and those of these people until we meet Allah, the Exalted."
