Al-Fath ar-Rabbani 12338 — The Second Virtue Regarding the Arrival
عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عُبَادٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ أَرَأَيْتَ مَسِيرَكَ هَذَا عَهْدًا عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْ رَأْيًا رَأَيْتَهُ قَالَ مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى هَذَا قُلْتُ دِينَنَا دِينَنَا قَالَ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِ شَيْئًا وَلَكِنْ رَأْيًا رَأَيْتُهُ
It is narrated from Qais bin Abad, he says: I requested Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Is the path you are following based on any command from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or is it your own opinion?" He said: "What concern is that of yours?" I said: "It is our religion, this is a matter of our religion, it is not a trivial thing." He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to me about this; it is merely my own opinion."
