Al-Fath ar-Rabbani 11659 — on What Has Been Narrated Regarding Jarir
عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ جَرِيرٌ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَعَلَى أَنْ أَنْصَحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ وَكَانَ جَرِيرٌ إِذَا اشْتَرَى الشَّيْءَ وَكَانَ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ ثَمَنِهِ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعْلَمَنَّ وَاللَّهِ لَمَا أَخَذْنَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِمَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ كَأَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ الْوَفَاءَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on these matters: that I would listen to your command and obey it, and that I would deal with every Muslim with goodwill. Abu Zur’ah says that when Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) would buy something and in his opinion the thing was priced higher than the agreed price, he would say to the seller: By Allah! What we have given you, compared to what we have taken from you, is more beloved to us. It is as if, by saying this, he would encourage the seller and fulfill the requirement of the pledge he had made.
