عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ تَقُولُ كَانَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ إِذَا حَدَّثَ حَدِيثًا تَبَسَّمَ فَقُلْتُ لَا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ إِنَّكَ أَيْ أَحْمَقُ فَقَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ أَوْ مَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحَدِّثُ حَدِيثًا إِلَّا تَبَسَّمَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with her) that whenever Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke, he would smile. I said to him: “Do not smile so much, lest people start calling you foolish.” He replied: “Whenever I saw or heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) speak, he would speak while smiling.”
