Al-Adab al-Mufrad 193 — Not Burdening the Slave Beyond His Capacity
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ، أَنَّ عَجْلاَنَ أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَهُ قُبَيْلَ وَفَاتِهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”لِلْمَمْلُوكِ طَعَامُهُ وَكِسْوَتُهُ، وَلاَ يُكَلَّفُ إِلاَّ مَا يُطِيقُ.“
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Food and clothing are the rights of the slave, and he should only be made to work as much as he has the strength for."
