Sunan Abu Dawud 5108 — When one man seeks the refuge of another
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ , وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجُشَمِيُّ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، قَالَ نَصْرٌ ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ،عَنْ أَبِي نَهِيكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنِ اسْتَعَاذَ بِاللَّهِ فَأَعِيذُوهُ ، وَمَنْ سَأَلَكُمْ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ فَأَعْطُوهُ " , قال عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ : مَنْ سَأَلَكُمْ بِاللَّهِ .
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone asks (you) for refuge for the sake of Allah, give him refuge; and if anyone asks you (for something) for the pleasure of Allah, give him. Ubaydullah said: If anyone asks you for the sake of Allah.

In this, the encouragement is that the one who is asking has invoked the intercession of a Most Great Being.
In consideration of His name, do not withhold whatever you are able to give.
Some of the scholars have classified this narration as hasan sahih (good and authentic).
