✿ Generosity and Kindness in Business Dealings

❶ It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) that:
“أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: رحم الله رجلا سمحا إذا باع وإذا اشترى وإذا اقتضى“
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
“May Allah have mercy on the man who is generous and lenient when he sells, when he buys, and when he demands his due.”
[Bukhari: 2076, Book of Trade: Chapter on Ease and Generosity in Buying and Selling, and Whoever Claims a Right Should Do So with Decency; Ibn Majah: 2203]

❷ In the narration of Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, the wording is:
“غفر الله لرجل كان قبلكم ، كان سهلا إذا باع ، سهلا إذا اشترى ، سهلا إذا اقتضي”
“Allah forgave a man from among those before you; he was lenient when he sold, lenient when he bought, and lenient when he demanded repayment.”
[Sahih: Sahih al-Targhib: 1742, Book of Trade: Chapter on Encouragement Toward Generosity in Buying and Selling; Tirmidhi: 1320]

❸ It is narrated from Hazrat Uthman (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
“أدخل الله عز وجل رجلا كان سهلا ، مشتريا وبائعا ، وقاضيا و مقتضيا ، الجنة”
“Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, admitted a man into Paradise who was lenient and generous when buying, selling, passing judgment, and demanding payment.”
[Hasan (due to supporting chains): Sahih al-Targhib: 1743, Book of Trade: Chapter on Encouragement Toward Generosity in Buying and Selling; Al-Nasa’i: 319/7; Ibn Majah: 2202]

Summary:
The teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) emphasize the importance of generosity, kindness, and leniency in all aspects of business transactions—whether one is selling, buying, demanding dues, or passing judgment. These qualities not only reflect good character but are also a means of attaining Allah’s mercy and Paradise.
