Statement of the Virtues of the Noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them
Allah Almighty has said: “But the Messenger and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all] good things, and it is those who are the successful. Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.”
And Allah Almighty has said: “And [also for] those who came after them, saying, ‘Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.'”
And Allah Almighty has said: “So if they believe in the same as you believe in, then they have been [rightly] guided; but if they turn away, they are only in dissension, and Allah will be sufficient for you against them, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.”
And Allah Almighty has said: “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.”
Hadith 1:
Hakim has declared it authentic on the condition, and Dhahabi has agreed with him.
“It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنه that Sayyiduna Umar رضي الله عنه, while delivering a sermon at Jabiyah, said: Once the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم stood among us just as I am standing among you, and he صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: I advise you to treat my companions well, and also those who will come after them, and those who will come after the followers (Tabi‘in), (I advise you to treat them well). After that, falsehood will become so widespread that a man will give testimony before being asked for it. So whoever among you wants to enter Paradise should adhere to the group of Muslims, for Satan stays with every person who is alone, and Satan moves a little away from two people. None of you should be alone with a non-mahram woman, for there are three with them, and the third is Satan. And the person who feels happiness in doing good and distress in committing sin is a believer.”
Hadith 2:
The scholar has declared it authentic.
“And Hazrat Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I found written in the Torah that Muhammad (peace be upon him) will be a messenger, neither quick-tempered nor harsh-faced, not one who causes commotion in the markets, nor one who repays evil with evil, but forgiving and merciful. His Ummah will be very praiseful. Everywhere they will praise and glorify Allah. On every high place (while ascending) they will say Allahu Akbar. Their lower legs will be covered with dust, they will perform ablution of their limbs, and will form ranks alike for prayer and fighting. Their caller (i.e., the Mu’adhdhin) will give the Adhan in the open air. At midnight, the sound of their remembrances will be soft like honeybees. The birthplace of this Messenger will be Makkah, the place of migration will be Taubah (i.e., Madinah Munawwarah), and the borders of his rule will reach as far as Sham.”
Hadith 3:
Shaikh Shoaib has declared it authentic.
“And it is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that there was some harsh exchange of words between Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid رضي الله عنه and Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf رضي الله عنه. Sayyiduna Khalid رضي الله عنه said to Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman رضي الله عنه: You speak ill of us merely because you embraced Islam a few days before us. When this was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, he said: Do not say anything bad about my companions for my sake. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, even if you spend gold equal to the size of Mount Uhud or several mountains, you will not reach their deeds (ranks).”
Hadith 4:
Ibn Hibban and Sheikh Shu’aib, may Allah have mercy on them, have declared it authentic.
“And it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: We prayed Maghrib prayer in the company of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then we said it would be better to wait a little and pray Isha prayer in his company before leaving. So we began to wait. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came towards us and said: Did you remain here? We replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! We just thought we would also pray Isha prayer in your company. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You have done well. Then he raised his head towards the sky, as it was his habit to often raise his head towards the sky. Then he said: These stars are the trustees (guardians and protectors) of the sky; when these stars disappear, the sky will undergo the condition that has been promised to it, meaning the sky will split into pieces. I am also a trustee for my companions; when I depart from this world, those trials and tribulations will come upon my companions which have been promised to them. And my companions are also trustees and protectors for my Ummah; when my companions depart from this world, the era of those trials will begin for my Ummah which has been promised to them.”
Hadith 5:
“And Abdullah ibn Basar رضي الله عنه, a companion of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, says: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Blessed is the one who saw me (i.e., a companion) and believed in me, and blessed is the one who saw the person who saw me (i.e., a follower) and believed, and blessed is the one who saw the one who saw the companions (i.e., the follower of the followers) and believed.”
Hadith 6:
“And Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Do not insult my companions, for their status is such that if any one of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not reach even one span or half a span of the status of these noble companions رضي الله عنهم.”
Hadith 7:
Sheikh Shoaib has declared it authentic.
And it is narrated from Sayyiduna Tariq bin Ashim رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: “The martyrdom of my companions is sufficient.”
The Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and Allah Almighty with Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه
Hadith 8:
“And Hazrat Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه narrated that Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq رضي الله عنه told him, saying: When we were in the cave, I saw the feet of the polytheists above (at the entrance of the cave) near our heads. I said: O Messenger of Allah! If any of them looks down towards their feet, he will see us below. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Abu Bakr! What do you think about the two with whom the third is Allah? (No harm can come to them).”
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: May my parents be sacrificed for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
Hadith 9:
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) appeared on the pulpit and said: Allah Almighty has given one servant the choice to take the worldly blessings or what is with Him, and he chose what is with Him. Upon this, Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) wept greatly and said: May our parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! (We did not understand the reason for his weeping). He (Abu Saeed, may Allah be pleased with him) said: The one who was given the choice was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and the one who knew this best among us was Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: In terms of wealth (support) and companionship, Abu Bakr has done the greatest favor to me, and if I were to make anyone my Khalil (intimate friend), I would have made Abu Bakr my Khalil, but (between us) there is the brotherhood of Islam. Do not leave any window open towards the mosque except the window of Abu Bakr (his window should not be closed).”
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) called Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) his brother
Hadith 10:
“And Abdullah bin Abi Hudhail narrated from Abu Ahwas, who said: I heard Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he said: If I were to take a close friend (Khalil), I would have taken Abu Bakr as my Khalil, but he is my (religious) brother and companion, and your companion (the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him) has been made Allah’s own Khalil.”
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) loved Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) the most
Hadith 11:
“And it is narrated from Abu Uthman, who said: Hazrat Amr bin As (may Allah be pleased with him) told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) appointed him as the commander of the army of Dhat al-Salasil. I came to him (to receive instructions) and (on this occasion) I also asked: Who is the most beloved to you among the people? He (peace be upon him) said: Aisha. I said: Among the men? He said: Her father. I said: Then who? He said: Umar. Then he mentioned the names of several people.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), the immediate Caliph
Hadith 12:
“And it is narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaika that I heard from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she was asked that if the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) were to appoint a caliph, whom would he appoint? Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). She was asked: After Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), whom? She said: Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). It was asked: After Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), whom? Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). At this point, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) stopped and did not give any further answer.”
Hadith 13:
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about something, and he instructed her to come back to him again. She said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, if I come and do not find you? Her father said: As if she was talking about your death, then you said: If you do not find me, then come to Abu Bakr.”
Hadith 14:
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: During the (final) illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he said to me: Call your father Abu Bakr and your brother to me so that I may write a document. I fear that someone who desires (the caliphate) will desire it and say: I am more entitled, while Allah also denies succession to anyone other than Abu Bakr, and so do the believers.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was extremely tender-hearted
Hadith 15:
“And Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Since the time I became conscious, I saw that my parents had accepted Islam, and not a single day passed without the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) visiting us twice a day, in the morning and evening. Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had a thought and built a mosque in an open space in front of his house, where he would pray and recite the Quran. The children and women of the polytheists would come and stand near him. They were amazed at Abu Bakr’s condition and looked at him attentively. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a very tender-hearted and tearful person; when he recited the Quran, he could not control his tears. This behavior of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) caused great anxiety among the nobles of the polytheists.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the first to embrace Islam
Hadith 16:
“And Sayyiduna Amr ibn Abasa Al-Salmi, may Allah be pleased with him, says: When I was in my time of ignorance, I used to think that all people were misguided and when they worshipped idols, they were not upon any (true) thing (religion). Then I heard about a man from Makkah who gave news of many things. I mounted my ride and came to him. At that time, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was in hiding, and his people were brave and bold against him. I adopted a subtle plan and came to him in Makkah and asked: Who are you? He said: I am a Prophet. I asked: What is a Prophet? He said: Allah has sent me. I said: What message has He sent you with? He said: Allah has sent me with the message of maintaining kinship ties, breaking idols, affirming the Oneness of Allah, and not associating anything with Him. I asked: Who else is with you on this (religion)? He said: One free man and one slave. Sayyiduna Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, says: Among those who believed with him at that time were Abu Bakr and Bilal, may Allah be pleased with them both. I said: I am also your follower. He said: You do not have the ability to do so in your current circumstances. Do you not see my condition and that of the people? But (in these circumstances) return to your home, and when you hear that I have prevailed, then come to me. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, says: So I returned to my family. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, migrated to Madinah. I was at my home when he came to Madinah, and I began to gather news and ask people about his condition. Until some people from the people of Yathrib (Madinah) came to me, and I asked: What has this person who came to Madinah done? They said: People are rapidly turning towards his (religion), his people wanted to kill him but they could not. Then I came to Madinah and presented myself before him and said: O Messenger of Allah! Do you recognize me? He said: Yes, you are the one who met me in Makkah? I said: Yes, and then I asked: O Prophet of Allah! Tell me all that Allah has taught you which I am unaware of, tell me about prayer. He said: Perform the morning prayer and then stop praying until the sun rises and becomes high because when it rises, Satan shows his horns as if he is rising between his two horns, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then pray because the prayer is witnessed and angels are present in it, until the shadow of the spear reaches it (the sun is directly overhead), then stop praying because at that time Hell is stoked with fuel. Then when the shadow moves forward (the sun declines), pray because the prayer is witnessed and attended until you finish the Asr prayer. Then stop praying until the sun sets completely because it sets between the two horns of Satan, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate before it. Then I asked: O Prophet of Allah! What about ablution? Tell me about it as well. He said: Whoever among you brings water near for ablution, then rinses his mouth and sniffs water into his nose and blows it out, his sins fall from his face, mouth, and nostrils. Then when he washes his face according to Allah’s command, surely the sins of his face fall with the water from the edges of his beard. Then he washes both his hands up to the elbows, surely the sins of his hands fall with the water from his pores. Then if he stands and prays and praises and glorifies Allah in a manner befitting Him and empties his heart for Allah (free from all other thoughts and imaginations), he comes out of his sins as he was on the day his mother gave birth to him (pure from all sins). Sayyiduna Amr ibn Abasa, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated this hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to another companion Sayyiduna Abu Imamah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said to him: O Amr ibn Abasa! Look what you are saying, so much has been granted to a man in one place! To which Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: O Abu Imamah! I have grown old, my bones have softened, and the time of my death is near, and I have no need to lie about Allah and His Messenger. If I had not heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, once, twice, thrice, even seven times, I would never have narrated it, rather I have heard it from him even more times than that.”
Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was content only with the protection of Allah Almighty
Hadith 17:
“And Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Since I became conscious, I have always seen my parents following the true religion, and not a day would pass that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would not come to us both in the morning and evening. Then, when the Muslims began to be severely persecuted, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) set out intending to migrate to Abyssinia (from Mecca). When he reached the place called Barak al-Ghamad, he met Ibn Dughna, who was the chief of the Qarah tribe. He asked: O Abu Bakr! Where are you going? He replied that his people had expelled him, so he wanted to travel the earth and worship his Lord with sincerity. Ibn Dughna said: A person like you can neither be forced to leave nor can anyone expel you because you provide to needy and poor people what they do not have, you treat relatives well, take care of the destitute, host guests, and if anyone faces hardship in the path of truth, you help them. Therefore, I grant you protection; return to Mecca and worship your Lord in your city. Thus, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to Mecca with Ibn Dughna. After that, Ibn Dughna met the chiefs of Quraysh at night and said to them: A person like Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) can neither be forced to leave nor can anyone expel him. Do you expel someone who provides people with what they lack, treats relatives well, cares for the poor, is generous in hospitality, and helps anyone who suffers in the path of truth? In short, Quraysh did not reject Ibn Dughna’s protection. However, they told him to tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to worship his Lord in his home and pray there or do whatever he wished, but not to do this openly because doing so openly would cause them distress, fearing that their women and children might be corrupted. Ibn Dughna conveyed this message to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who then settled again in Mecca under this condition. Thus, he worshipped his Lord in his home, neither praying openly nor reciting the Quran anywhere other than his house. Then, when the thought came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), he built a mosque in the courtyard of his house, where he prayed and recited the Quran. Then it happened that many women and children of the polytheists gathered around him, all amazed and attentive to him. Since Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a person who wept profusely, when he recited the Quran, he could not control his tears. Seeing this, the chiefs of Quraysh became alarmed. Eventually, they summoned Ibn Dughna. Upon his arrival, they complained that they had granted Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) protection on the condition that he worship his Lord in his home, but he had exceeded this by building a mosque in his courtyard where he prayed openly and recited the Quran. They feared that their women and children would be corrupted. Therefore, they asked Ibn Dughna to forbid him, and if Abu Bakr accepted to worship his Lord in his home, the protection would remain. If he refused and insisted on praying openly, then Ibn Dughna should withdraw his protection because they did not want to break his protection but could not allow Abu Bakr’s open worship. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that after this, Ibn Dughna came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: You know the terms on which I granted you protection, so either adhere to them or return my protection because I do not want the Arabs to hear that the one I protected was violated. Upon this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I return your protection and I am only pleased with the protection of Allah, the Exalted.”

Hadith 18:
“The noble Tabi’i Urwah ibn Zubair says that I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr ibn As (may Allah be pleased with them) what was the harshest treatment the polytheists inflicted upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)? He replied that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was praying near the Kaaba when Aqabah ibn Abi Mu’ayt came and grabbed his blessed shoulder and wrapped his cloth around the Prophet’s neck, then strangled him very harshly with that cloth. At that moment, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also came. He grabbed the (wretched) man by the shoulder and removed him away from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: ﴿أَتَقْتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَن يَقُولَ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ وَقَدْ جَاءَكُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ﴾
‘Do you want to kill a man who says, “My Lord is Allah,” while he has brought clear proofs from your Lord?'”

Hadith 19:
“And Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were with our tribe Ghifar, and those people considered even the sacred months as permissible. I, my brother Anis, and my mother all set out and stayed with our maternal uncle. He honored and treated us very well. His people became jealous of us and said to our uncle: When you leave your wife, Anis commits adultery with her. Then our uncle came and accused us of what was said. I said to them: By making this accusation, you have also spoiled the favors you did for us. After that, we could not stay with you. We went to our camels and loaded our belongings on them. Our uncle wrapped himself in a cloth and began to cry. We left from there and descended in front of Makkah. Anis bet on our camels and an equal number of other camels on whose camels were better. Then Anis and that person went to the soothsayer, who judged Anis’s camels to be better. Anis won our camels and an equal number of other camels. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to (Abdullah bin Samit): O my nephew! I used to pray even three years before meeting the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Abdullah bin Samit asked: For whom? He said: For Allah. I (Abdullah) asked: Which direction did you face? He said: I prayed Isha facing whichever direction Allah turned my face. Even when it was the last part of the night, I would wrap myself like a sheet so that the sun would not fall on me. Anyway, Anis said: I have work in Makkah, you stay here, I am going. Anis went to Makkah and delayed in returning. When he came, I asked: What were you doing? He said: I met a person in Makkah who is on your religion. He says Allah has made me a Messenger. I asked: And what do people say? He said: People call him a poet, soothsayer, and magician. Anis himself was a poet. Anis said: I have heard the soothsayers’ poetry; his poetry is not like theirs. I compared his poetry with that of poets, but no one’s tongue can produce such verses. By Allah! He is truthful and people are liars. I said: You stay here, I will go and see. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I went to Makkah and chose a weak person from among the people of Makkah. I asked: Where is the person about whom you say he has changed his religion? He pointed to me and said: This is the apostate (one who changed religion). Then all the people of the valley attacked me with bones and sticks until I fainted and fell down. When I regained consciousness, I saw that I had become a red idol (due to excessive bleeding). I came near Zamzam, washed the blood, and drank water. I stayed there for thirty days and nights. At that time, other than Zamzam water, I had no other food. I became so fat that the folds of my stomach disappeared, and I did not feel the intensity of hunger in my liver. One moonlit night, when the people of Makkah had slept, no one was circumambulating the Kaaba except two women calling Asaf and Nailah (idols). While circumambulating, they came near me. I said: Marry one to the other. Even after hearing this, they did not stop calling. When they came to me again, I said: I will burn you with firewood because I did not speak figuratively (so I directly cursed Asaf and Nailah). Hearing this, the two women screamed and said: If only someone from our people were here now. On the way, these two met the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). They were descending from the mountain. The Prophet asked: What happened to you? They said: An apostate has come who is hiding in the curtains of the Kaaba. He asked: What did he say to you? They said: He says such things that make one’s mouth full (meaning he speaks the truth). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came, kissed the Black Stone, and you and your companion (Abu Bakr) circumambulated the Kaaba and then prayed. When you completed the prayer, I was the first person who greeted in the Islamic way. I said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah! He said: And upon you be peace and Allah’s mercy. Then he said: Who are you? I said: I am from Ghifar. He raised his hand and placed his fingers on his forehead. I thought maybe he disliked that I was from Ghifar. I reached out to take his hand, but your companion (Abu Bakr), who knew your condition better than me, stopped me. Then you raised your head and said: How long have you been here? I said: I have been here for thirty days and nights. You said: Who feeds you? I said: Other than Zamzam water, I have no other food. I have become so fat that the folds of my stomach have disappeared, and I do not feel weakness from hunger in my liver. You said: Zamzam water is blessed; it is food that fills the stomach. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to feed him tonight. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) set out. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr opened the door and brought out raisins from Ta’if for us. This was the first food I ate in Makkah. Then I saved what was left and then went to the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He said: I was shown a land with date palms; I think it is Yathrib (Medina). Will you convey my message (Islamic religion) to your people? Perhaps Allah will benefit them because of you and reward you. Then I reached Anis, who asked: What were you doing? I said: I have accepted Islam and confirmed him (the Messenger of Allah). He said: I do not dislike your religion either; I have also become Muslim and confirmed it. Then we went to our mother. She said: I do not dislike your religion either; I will also accept Islam and confirm it. We loaded our belongings on the camels and reached our tribe Banu Ghifar. Half of them became Muslims. Their leader and Imam was Ima’ bin Rahdha al-Ghifari. The other half said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) comes to Medina, we will become Muslims. Then when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to Medina, the other half also became Muslims. Then the people of the tribe Aslam came and said: O Messenger of Allah! We also accept Islam like our brothers. Then they also became Muslims. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: May Allah forgive Ghifar and keep Aslam safe.”
The Journey of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Abu Bakr Siddiq رضي الله عنه during Hijrah
Hadith 20:
“And the purified wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrated that when I came to my senses, I found my parents upon the religion of Islam, and there was no day that passed without the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visiting our house both in the morning and evening. Then, when the Muslims began to be persecuted (in Mecca), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to migrate to Abyssinia. When he reached the place called Barak al-Ghamad, he met Ibn al-Dughna, who was the chief of the Qarah tribe. He asked Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) where he intended to go. He replied that his people had expelled him, so he had decided to travel from country to country and worship his Lord freely. Ibn al-Dughna said, ‘But Abu Bakr, a man like you should neither leave his homeland by himself nor be expelled. You help the needy, maintain kinship ties, bear the burdens of the helpless, show hospitality, and assist those afflicted due to standing for the truth. I grant you protection; return and worship your Lord in your own city.’ Thus, he returned, and Ibn al-Dughna also came back with him. After that, Ibn al-Dughna went to all the chiefs of Quraysh in the evening and told them, ‘A person like Abu Bakr should neither leave nor be expelled. Will you expel a man who helps the needy, maintains kinship, bears the burdens of the helpless, shows hospitality, and assists those afflicted due to standing for the truth?’ Quraysh did not refuse Ibn al-Dughna’s protection but only said to tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to worship his Lord inside his house, pray there, and wherever he wishes, but not to express his worship openly because they feared that their women and children might be affected by this trial. Ibn al-Dughna conveyed these words to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). For some days, he adhered to this and worshipped his Lord only inside his house, neither praying publicly nor reciting the Quran anywhere except inside his home. But then he thought and made a place in front of his house to pray, where he began to pray and recite the Quran. As a result, a gathering of the polytheists’ women and children started to form there. They used to watch with amazement and admiration. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a very soft-hearted person. When he recited the Quran, he could not hold back his tears. This situation alarmed the chiefs of the Quraysh polytheists, and they summoned Ibn al-Dughna. When he came, they said to him, ‘We accepted your protection for Abu Bakr on the condition that he worships his Lord inside his house, but he has violated this condition by making a place in front of his house and praying and reciting the Quran publicly. We fear that our women and children might be affected by this trial. Therefore, you must stop him. If he agrees to worship his Lord only inside his house, he may do so, but if he insists on expressing it openly, tell him that we will revoke your protection because we do not like to interfere with the protection you have given, but we cannot tolerate Abu Bakr’s public expression.’ Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that then Ibn al-Dughna came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, ‘You know the condition on which I made a pact with you. Now either you adhere to this condition or revoke my pact because I cannot bear that it reaches the ears of the Arabs that I gave protection to a person, but interference occurred.’ Upon this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘I revoke your protection and am content with the protection of my Lord, the Almighty.’ The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was in Mecca at that time. He told the Muslims that the place of your migration was shown to me in a dream; it has palm gardens and is located between two rocky plains. So those who were to migrate went towards Medina, and those who had migrated to Abyssinia also came to Medina. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also began preparations for migration to Medina, but the Prophet ﷺ told him to wait for a few days, hoping that permission for migration would also be granted to him. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, ‘Do you really expect that you will also be permitted, O Messenger of Allah? May my parents be sacrificed for you.’ The Prophet ﷺ postponed his intention of traveling with him and began preparing the she-camels they had by feeding them leaves of the keekar tree for four months. Ibn Shihab narrated that Urwah said Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, ‘One day we were sitting in Abu Bakr’s house at midday when someone told Abu Bakr that the Messenger of Allah was coming with a handkerchief over his head. The Prophet ﷺ did not usually come to our house at that time. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “May my parents be sacrificed for the Prophet. He must have come for a special reason at this time.” He narrated that then the Prophet ﷺ came and asked for permission to enter. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) allowed him, and he entered. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to him, “Now get everyone up from here for a little while.” Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “There are only household members here at this time. May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet ﷺ then said, “I have been granted permission to migrate.” Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! Will I have the honor of accompanying you?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Yes.” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, may my parents be sacrificed for you, take one of these two she-camels with you!” The Prophet ﷺ said, “But for a price.” Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that then we quickly began preparations for them and packed some provisions in a bag. Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) tore pieces of her waist wrapper and tied the mouth of the bag with it, and because of this, she was called «ذات النطاقين» (the one with the waist wrapper). Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that then the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed in the cave of Jabal Thawr and spent three nights there. Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to spend the nights there; he was a very intelligent and wise young man. At dawn, he would leave and reach Mecca early in the morning as if he had spent the night there. Then he would keep safe whatever he heard and any plans made against these noble men, and when darkness fell, he would come and deliver all the information. Abu Bakr’s slave, Amir bin Fahira (may Allah be pleased with him), used to graze the goats that gave milk near them, and after some nights, he was brought to the cave. He would spend the night there, and the milk was warmed by a hot iron. In the morning, before dawn, Amir bin Fahira (may Allah be pleased with him) would leave the cave. This was their routine during those three nights. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had hired a man from Bani al-Dail, a branch of Bani Abd bin Adi, to guide them for a wage. This man was very skilled in routes. He was also an ally of the family of As ibn Wa’il Sahmi and remained steadfast in the religion of the Quraysh disbelievers. These elders trusted him and handed over their two camels to him. It was agreed that after spending three nights, this man would meet them in the cave of Thawr. Thus, on the morning of the third night, he came with the two camels. Now Amir bin Fahira (may Allah be pleased with him) and this guide took these noble men and set out along the coastal route.”

Hadith 21:
“Sayyiduna Bara’ ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) bought a pack animal from Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), and I helped him lift and bring it. He narrated that when Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) about the journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the Hijrah, he said that since we were being watched (i.e., the disbelievers were spying on us), we came out at night from the cave, and traveled very quickly throughout the night and the whole day. When it was mid-afternoon, we saw a rock; when we reached near it, there was a little shade under it. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I spread a leather piece that I had for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He lay down on it, and I began to brush off the surrounding dust. By chance, a shepherd appeared who was coming towards the same rock with a small herd of his goats; his purpose was the same as ours (i.e., to get shade). I asked him: ‘Boy! Whose servant are you?’ He told me he belonged to so-and-so. I asked him: ‘Can you milk your goats?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ Then he brought a goat from his herd, and I told him to first brush its udder. Then he milked some milk. I had a water skin with me, its mouth tied with a cloth. This water I had brought along for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I poured this water into the milk until it became cool to the bottom. Then I brought it to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: ‘Messenger of Allah! Please drink this milk.’ The Prophet (peace be upon him) drank it, which gave me great happiness. After that, we resumed our journey, while those searching for us were still looking.”
Hadith 22:
“And Sayyid Nasraqa bin Malik bin Ja’sham (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that messengers of the disbelieving Quraysh came to us announcing that whoever kills or captures alive the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) or Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) will be rewarded with one hundred camels each. At one time, I was sitting in the gathering of my tribe Banu Mudlij when one of them came and stood before us while we were seated. He said: O Suraqa! I just saw some people on the shore. I think they are Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions. Suraqa says: I understood that these were indeed they, but I told him otherwise, saying they could not be, rather you must have seen so and so who just passed by us searching for a lost animal. After that, I stayed in that gathering for a while, then stood up and went home and told my maid to take my horse outside and stand behind the hill. Then I took my spear and went out from the back of the house. I was drawing a line on the ground with the tip of the spear, with its upper part bent downwards. In this way, I came to my horse and mounted it. Then I galloped it like the wind so that it would take me quickly. But when I got near them, the horse stumbled so badly that I fell off. Then I stood up and reached for my quiver and took out an arrow to cast a lot to see if I would be able to harm those people or not. The outcome was something unpleasant to me, but still, I mounted my horse again and did not accept the omen of the arrows. My horse took me so close that I heard the recitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He was not looking in any direction, while Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was looking around a lot. Then the horse’s two front legs sank into the ground up to the knees and it fell over them. Then I scolded the horse and with great difficulty its legs came out, but when it stood up, dust like smoke appeared from its two front legs and spread up to the sky. I took the omen from the arrows again and it was the same as before which I disliked. Finally, I called out to them with safety and they stopped. Then I came to them on my horse and when I faced obstacles in reaching them, the thought came to my heart that surely the word of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) will prevail. So I informed him that your people have set a reward of one hundred camels for you. Then I narrated the things those people intended to do to you. Afterwards, I offered them provisions and some supplies, but they neither reduced my wealth nor asked for anything, except they said: Keep our condition hidden from the people. I requested them to write a letter of safety for me. He ordered Amir bin Fuhayrah who wrote a certificate of safety for me on a piece of leather, and then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) proceeded forward.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Medina with Abu Bakr
Hadith 23:
Sheikh Shoaib has declared it authentic according to the condition of Muslim.
“And Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه says that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم migrated, he was mounted, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was riding behind him. On the way, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was recognized because he used to pass by the people of this route when coming and going to the land of Sham. Therefore, people asked: Abu Bakr! Who is the man ahead of you? He said: This is my guide and leader. When they reached near Medina, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم sent a message to the Muslims of the Ansar tribe and to Abu Imamah رضي الله عنه and his companions. They all came and said: You both enter in peace and security. So they both entered. Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه says: I have never seen a day more illuminated and beautiful than the day on which the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه entered Medina.”
The Account of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (May Allah be pleased with him) Falling Ill
Hadith 24:
“And Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to Medina, he came at a time when Medina was the most afflicted area with epidemic fever in the land of Allah. The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) also fell victim to this epidemic and plague. But Allah protected His Prophet (peace be upon him) from it. Sayyidina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and his freed slave Amir bin Fuhayrah and Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) also fell ill with fever in the same house as Sayyidina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). I went to visit them, and this incident was before the command of purdah. I saw that their suffering was such that no one except Allah knows it. I went near Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Abu Ji! How is your condition? He said: Everyone dies among his family in the morning, even though death is closer to him than the strap of his shoe. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: By Allah! My father does not even realize what he is saying. Then I went near Amir bin Fuhayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: Amir, how are you? He said: Indeed, I have tasted death before it came to me. Surely, the death of a coward passes over him. Everyone strives according to his strength, just as a bull warms its hide with its own horns. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: By Allah! Amir does not know what he is saying. And Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was in such a state that when his fever subsided, he would lie in the courtyard of the house. Then he would raise his painful voice and say: I wish I knew whether I would spend the night in this valley while around me there is grass called Adkhar and Jalil. Will I one day reach the waters of Majannah? Will the mountains named Shamah and Tufail appear before me? Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that I narrated all these words I heard from these people to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and I said that these people speak incoherently and do not understand what they say due to the severity of the fever. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed and said: O Allah! Make Medina beloved to us as You made Mecca beloved to us, or even more so. Bless its mud and sa’ (measure). And transfer its epidemic to Muhiya, that is, Hujfah.”
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the Battle of Hunayn
Hadith 25:
Sheikh Shoaib has called it Hasan.
“And our master Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that when we reached the valley of Hunain, we passed through a valley of Tihamah which was quite wide and broad and sloped from a height downwards. We were descending from the top to the bottom. It was the time of the morning rush. The enemy was hiding in various places and narrow spots in the mountain passes of the valley, gathered and fully prepared to confront us. By Allah! As we were descending down into the valley, their troops suddenly attacked us. Our people, confused by this sudden attack, started fleeing; no one looked towards anyone else. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) also moved to the right side of the path. He (peace be upon him) said: O people! Come to me, come to me, I am the Messenger of Allah, I am Muhammad bin Abdullah. For a moment, no one responded. The camels were falling over each other and running away. Some Muhajireen, Ansar, and some members of the Ahl al-Bayt remained with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Among those who stayed with him were our master Abu Bakr and our master Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), and from the Ahl al-Bayt, our master Ali bin Abi Talib, our master Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, his son our master Fazl bin Abbas, our master Abu Sufyan bin Harith, our master Rabiah bin Harith, the son of Sayyida Umm Ayman, our master Ayman bin Ubayd, and our master Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them). A man from Banu Hawazin, riding a red camel and waving a black flag on the tip of a long spear in his hand, was leading his tribe. The rest of Banu Hawazin followed under his leadership. Whenever he encountered a Muslim on the way, he would strike him with the spear, and when the people passed by, he would raise his banner to guide those behind him, and the people would follow him.”
In the Battle of Tabuk, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
Hadith 26:
Ibn Khuzaymah has declared it authentic.
“And it is narrated from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that it was presented to Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): Explain to us about times of hardship. He said: We set out towards Tabuk in intense heat. We camped at a place and became thirsty (while there was no water). We thought that soon our necks would be cut (i.e., we would die of thirst). Whenever a man went in search of water, he did not return quickly, and it was thought that his neck had been cut. (Then the situation reached such a point that) a man would slaughter his camel, squeeze its skin, drink the water, and pour the remainder on his stomach. (Seeing these conditions) Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah has made you accustomed to supplicating for good (i.e., you frequently pray for goodness), so pray for us that Allah grants us relief from this hardship. You asked: Do you like that? They said: Yes. So you (peace be upon him) raised your hands in supplication. Before you had lowered your hands, clouds gathered in the sky, darkness spread, and heavy rain began. The Companions filled all their vessels, then we left the camping place and saw that it had not rained outside the camp. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: If the squeezed water from the camel’s skin was impure, it would not have been permissible for a person to pour it on his stomach, because in that way a part of his body would become impure. And he did not have pure water to wash the impure part of his body. However, if drinking impure water would result in the risk of death, then it is permissible to drink impure water to stay alive. Because Allah has permitted eating carrion, blood, and pork in cases where there is a risk of death without consuming them, even though carrion, blood, and pork are impure and forbidden for a person who can avoid them. For a person in distress, it is permissible to eat them to save life. Similarly, in times of danger of death, it is permissible for a distressed (compelled) person to drink impure water to save his life. But applying impure water to any part of the body, while knowing for certain that if he does not apply it to his body there is no danger to his life, and that applying this water to any part of the body is not related to the preservation of his life, and he does not have pure water to wash the impure part of his body, then in this situation using such water is not permissible, and there is no allowance for anyone to do this.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه the title of Siddiq
Hadith 27:
“And Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه says that the Noble Prophet ﷺ climbed Mount Uhud. Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman رضي الله عنهم were also with him. The mountain began to shake and tremble, so he struck it with his foot and said: O Uhud! Stop, for upon you is a Prophet, a Siddiq, and two martyrs.”
Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه ate with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
Hadith 28:
“And Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ رضي الله عنه said that I heard Sayyiduna Utban bin Malik Ansari رضي الله عنه, and he was among those who participated in the Battle of Badr alongside the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Sayyiduna Utban رضي الله عنه said: I used to lead my tribe Banu Salim in prayer. There was a valley between me and that tribe. When it rained, crossing it to reach their mosque became difficult for me, so I came to the presence of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم and said that my eyesight has weakened and this valley flowing between me and my people becomes difficult to cross when it rains. I wish that you come and pray somewhere in my house so that I can make it (permanently) a place of prayer. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: I will come soon. So one day, when the sun had risen, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq رضي الله عنه came to me. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked permission to enter. I gave you permission, and before sitting, you asked: In which part of your house do you prefer us to pray? I pointed to a place where I preferred the prayer to be performed. Then the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم stood there and said «الله اكبر». We also formed rows behind you. You prayed two rak’ahs and then turned the salam. We also returned the salam when you did. Then I presented food prepared from coarse flour and meat, which was prepared especially for you. When the people of the neighborhood found out that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم was present in my house, they began to gather one after another until many people had gathered in my house. One of them said: What happened to Malik (Ibn Dukhshan)? He is not visible to us here. Another person said: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Do not say that. Do you not see that he says «لا إله إلا الله» and his recitation of the kalima is solely for the pleasure of Allah Almighty? That person said: (Although) Allah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم know best, but by Allah! We only see his friendship and conversation and greetings with the hypocrites. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Allah has forbidden Hellfire for the person who recites the pure kalima for the pleasure of Allah.”
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) endured very difficult times for the sake of Islam
Hadith 29:
“And Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once it was either day or night when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went outside and saw that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) were also present there. He asked: What has driven you out of your homes at this time? They replied, O Messenger of Allah! Hunger has. He said: By the One in Whose hand is my soul! That same thing which drove you out has also brought me out (of my house). Come along with me. Both of them accompanied him. They came to the house of an Ansari companion, but that companion was not at home. When his wife saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she said, «مرحبا ، وأهلا» The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked this woman: Where is so-and-so (i.e., your husband)? She said: He has gone to fetch sweet water for us. At that moment, the Ansari companion also arrived. When he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his two companions, he said: «الحمد لله», today no one has as honored guests as I do. Then he went and brought a bunch of dates, which included semi-ripe, dried, and fresh dates, and said: Eat from these. Then he took a knife, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Do not slaughter the milking goat. In short, he slaughtered a goat for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions (and cooked it). Then all of them ate its meat, ate dates, and drank (sweet) water. When everyone had eaten and drunk to their fill, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): By the One in Whose hand is my soul! Surely, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be questioned about these blessings. You had left your homes due to hunger, but before you returned, Allah Almighty granted you these blessings.”
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) excelled others in good deeds
Hadith 30:
Sheikh Shoaib has classified it as Hasan.
“And it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to the mosque while he was between Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). He saw that Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was praying and reciting Surah An-Nisa. After reciting one hundred verses, he finished the recitation. Then Ibn Mas’ud stood in prayer and began to supplicate, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘Ask, you will be given; ask, you will be given.’ Then he said: ‘Whoever wants to recite the Qur’an as perfectly as it was revealed, he should recite according to the recitation of the son of Umm Abd (Abdullah ibn Mas’ud).’ Then when Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up in the morning, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him early to give him glad tidings. He asked him: ‘What did you ask from Allah last night?’ Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud said: ‘I said (that I prayed): O Allah! I ask You for a faith that will never leave me, blessings that will never perish, and I ask You for the highest station in Paradise alongside Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).’ Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to give glad tidings, but he was told: ‘Indeed, Abu Bakr has preceded you.’ He said: ‘May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr; in every good deed I tried to compete with him, he surpassed me.'”
Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), the one who disciplined the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
Hadith 31:
“And Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to make peace among the tribe of Amr bin Awf. When the time for prayer came, the Mu’adhdhin came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: If you lead the prayer, shall I say the Iqamah? He said: Yes. After that, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to lead the prayer. Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) arrived while the people were engaged in prayer. He passed through the rows and reached the first row. Upon this, the people began clapping, but Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was not accustomed to looking around during his prayer. When the people continued clapping, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr became attentive and his gaze fell upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (he began to step back), but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gestured for him to remain in his place. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr raised both hands and thanked Allah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had honored him with the leadership of the prayer. However, he stepped back and joined the rows of the people, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) advanced and led the prayer. After finishing, he said: O Abu Bakr! When I commanded you, why did you not stand? Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: What dignity does the son of Abu Quhafa have to lead the prayer before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)? Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) turned to the people and said: What is the reason that I saw you clapping so much? (Look!) When something occurs to someone during the prayer, he should say SubhanAllah because when he says SubhanAllah, attention will be given to him, and clapping is only for women.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his hands during prayer
Hadith 32:
Imam Bayhaqi has declared its narrators trustworthy. Hafiz Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar have agreed with this.
“And Imam Bayhaqi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that Imam Hafiz Abu Abdullah Al-Hakim narrated to us, saying that Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Al-Saffar Al-Zahid narrated to us from his book a hadith that Abu Ismail Muhammad ibn Ismail Salmi said: I prayed behind Abu al-Nu’man Muhammad ibn Fadl, and when he started the prayer, when he bowed, and when he rose from bowing, he raised both of his hands. Then he was asked about this. He said: I prayed behind Hammad ibn Zayd, and when he prayed, at the start of the prayer, when bowing, and when raising his head from bowing, he raised both of his hands. I asked him about this, and he said: I saw Ata ibn Abi Rabah, may Allah have mercy on him (the teacher of Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him), raise both of his hands at the start of the prayer, when bowing, and when raising his head from bowing. I asked, and he said: I prayed behind Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Al-Zubair, may Allah be pleased with them both, and he also raised both of his hands at the start of the prayer, when bowing, and when raising his head from bowing. I asked him about this, and he said: I prayed behind Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, and he also raised both of his hands at the start of the prayer, when bowing, and when raising his head from bowing. And Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said that I prayed behind the truthful Prophet, the Noble Messenger Muhammad, peace be upon him. He, peace be upon him, raised both of his hands at the start of the prayer, when bowing, and when raising his head from bowing.”
The Advice of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq رضی اللہ عنہ
Hadith 33:
Ahmad Shakir has declared it authentic.
“And Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه said that a man insulted Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه while the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم was present. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was surprised and smiling. When the man became more abusive, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه responded to him. Upon this, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم became displeased and stood up. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه stood and went to him and said: O Messenger of Allah! He was insulting me while you were also present, but when I responded to him, you stood up displeased. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Indeed, there was an angel with you who was responding (on your behalf), but when you responded to him, Satan came. So I am not one to sit with Satan. And the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Abu Bakr! These matters are true, learn them: Whoever is wronged and then forgives, Allah grants him strength and support in return; and whoever opens the door of charity by confirming and maintaining kinship, Allah grants him more in return; and whoever extends his hand in asking for wealth excessively, Allah causes him further scarcity because of it.”
The Blessing of the Family of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (May Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 34:
“And Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that we set out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When we reached the place called Bidaa or Dhat al-Jaysh, my necklace was lost. To search for it, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stayed there, and the people also stopped with him, although there was no water spring there, nor did the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) have water with them. People came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Do you not see what Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and others stop here. There is neither a water spring here nor do they have water themselves. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was resting his blessed head on my thigh and sleeping. Upon arrival, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You have needlessly stopped the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and others, while they are neither at a spring nor do they have water themselves. He scolded me severely and, as Allah willed, he reproached me, then he struck my waist with his hand, and I could not move because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was resting his head on my thigh. In any case, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) slept until morning. When he got up, there was no water. At that time, Allah Almighty revealed the verse about Tayammum. Then everyone performed Tayammum and prayed. Sayyiduna Asid bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O family of Abu Bakr! This is not your first blessing. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The camel on which I was riding, when we lifted it, the necklace was found underneath it.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) participated in the Battle of Uhud
Hadith 35:
«وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها ﴿الَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَا أَصَابَهُمُ الْقَرْحُ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا مِنْهُمْ وَاتَّقَوْا أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ﴾ She said to Urwah, O my nephew, your fathers were among them: Al-Zubair and Abu Bakr when the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was afflicted on the day of Uhud and the polytheists turned away from him, he feared that they might return. He said: Who will go after them? Seventy men volunteered from among them. It is said that Abu Bakr and Al-Zubair were among them.
“And Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said regarding this verse ﴿الَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَا أَصَابَهُمُ الْقَرْحُ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا مِنْهُمْ وَاتَّقَوْا أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ﴾
to (her nephew) Urwah: My nephew! Your father Al-Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him, and your grandfather Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, were also among those people who, despite being wounded, responded to the call of Allah and His Messenger. What happened was that in the battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was hurt and the polytheists retreated. He feared that they might return, so he said: Who will pursue them? In response to this, seventy companions said yes, among them were Abu Bakr and Al-Zubair, may Allah be pleased with them.”
Our Master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) became the leader of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 36:
“And Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) became very ill, Sayyidina Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform him about the prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyidina Abu Bakr is a gentle-hearted man, and when he stands in your place, people will not be able to hear him (due to intense crying). Therefore, it would be better if you ask Sayyidina Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. Then I said to Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) that you tell him that Sayyidina Abu Bakr is gentle-hearted and if he stands in your place, people will not be able to hear his voice. Therefore, it would be better if you ask Sayyidina Umar. Upon this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You people are no less than the companions of Yusuf (Joseph, peace be upon him), tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. When Sayyidina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) started leading the prayer, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) felt some relief in his illness, so he stood up and began walking with the support of two men. His feet were dragging on the ground until he entered the mosque. When Sayyidina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) heard his footsteps, he started to step back. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stopped him with a gesture. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) sat down on the left side of Sayyidina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), while Sayyidina Abu Bakr stood and led the prayer, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed sitting down. Sayyidina Abu Bakr was leading the prayer, and the people were following Sayyidina Abu Bakr in prayer.”
Hadith 37:
“And Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On a Monday, Muslims were performing the Fajr prayer, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them in prayer when suddenly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appeared. He ﷺ lifted the curtain of Sayyidah Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) chamber and was looking at the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were standing in rows in prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and laughed, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to step back on his heels to join the row, thinking that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to come for the prayer. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Muslims almost broke their prayer due to the happiness they felt upon seeing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ signaled with his hand to complete the prayer. Then he ﷺ went inside the chamber and hung the curtain back.”

“And it is narrated from Hazrat Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he instructed her (this time to leave and) never to come again. She said: If I come and do not find you, meaning she wanted to say if you pass away, then whom should I meet? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you do not find me, then go to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).”
