Allah Almighty has prepared Paradise for the believers and His obedient servants, where there will be blessings beyond human imagination. In this article, we will discuss the eternal life of Paradise, its blessings, and especially the houses and palaces of Paradise in the light of the Quran and Hadith. Then we will clarify for whom these magnificent houses have been prepared and by which deeds Allah Almighty grants houses in Paradise to His servants.
The blessings of Paradise are beyond human imagination
Respected gentlemen!
Allah Almighty has prepared Paradise for the believers, in which there will be such blessings that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived.
The noble saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is:
Translation
Allah Almighty says:
“I have prepared for My righteous servants such blessings that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived.”
Eternal Life in Paradise
My brothers and sisters!
Life in Paradise will be forever; there will never be death there. There will always be health and wellness; there will be no trace of illness. There will always be youth; old age will never come. There will always be prosperity; hardship and poverty will never come.
Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, a caller will announce:
‘You will live forever; death will never come.’
‘You will always be healthy; you will never be sick.’
‘You will always be young; you will never grow old.’
‘You will always be prosperous; you will never be in distress.'”
Mention of the Houses and Palaces of Paradise
One of the great blessings of Paradise is its magnificent houses, palaces, and mansions. Every believing man and woman deeply desires to be granted a house or palace in Paradise where they will live forever.
Allah Almighty says:
Translation
“But those who feared their Lord will have lofty chambers, above them lofty chambers built, beneath which rivers flow. That is the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise.”
The Reality of the Palaces of Paradise
Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“I entered Paradise (or went to Paradise) and saw a palace made of gold.”
These evidences make it clear that the mansions and palaces of Paradise are real, and residing in them is the true success.
Allah Almighty says:
Translation
“The inhabitants of Hell and the inhabitants of Paradise will not be equal; the inhabitants of Paradise are the truly successful.”
Paradise is the True Success
Respected gentlemen!
The person whom Allah Almighty admits into Paradise is truly successful. That is why the heartfelt desire of the believers is to be granted residence in the houses and palaces of Paradise.
Allah Almighty says:
Translation
“So whoever is saved from the Hellfire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful.”
And the wife of Pharaoh also made this great supplication:
Translation
“O my Lord! Build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
Now the question is, for whom are these palaces and houses of Paradise? And what are the deeds by which Allah Almighty builds houses in Paradise for His servants? Let us mention these fortunate people and their deeds.
➊ Faith in Allah and Confirmation of the Messengers
Hazrat Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Indeed, the people of Paradise will look at those above them in the highest chambers just as you see the shining and setting stars on the eastern or western horizon, because there will be a difference in their ranks.”
The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked:
Translation
“O Messenger of Allah! These must be the ranks of the Prophets; how can anyone else reach there?”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
Translation
“Why not! By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, these ranks will also be for those who believe in Allah and confirm the Messengers.”
Meaning of Faith in Allah
Believing in Allah means:
❀ To acknowledge Allah alone as the Creator and Owner.
❀ To consider Him the Provider, Planner, and Owner of benefit and harm.
❀ To regard Him as the fulfiller of needs and reliever of difficulties.
❀ To accept Him as the true God and worship only Him.
❀ To place trust, hope, fear, bowing, and prostration solely in Allah, the One without partner.
Meaning of Confirmation of the Messengers
Confirmation of the messengers means:
❀ To believe in the prophethood of all the Prophets, peace be upon them.
❀ To consider them as Allah’s chosen servants.
❀ To be certain that Allah sent them to invite to monotheism and the religion of Islam.
❀ The commands of revelation and Shariah reached the servants through them.
➋ Faith, Islam, Migration, and Jihad in the Way of Allah
That is, the person who:
❀ Is steadfast in faith in Allah,
❀ Performs the obligations of Islam,
❀ If migration is necessary for the sake of religion, then migrates,
❀ And if the opportunity for jihad in the way of Allah arises, does not lag behind—
Allah Almighty builds a house for him in Paradise.
The Holy Prophet ﷺ said:
Translation
“I guarantee for the one who believes in me, embraces Islam, and migrates: a house on the edge of Paradise and a house in the middle of Paradise.”
And He said:
Translation
“And I guarantee for the one who believes in me, embraces Islam, and strives in the way of Allah: a house on the edge of Paradise, a house in the middle of Paradise, and a house in the highest chambers of Paradise.”
Then he said:
Translation
“Whoever performs these deeds and then continues to seek every good and avoid evil, his death will come to him wherever he wishes.”
➌ Feeding others, gentle speech, fasting, and Tahajjud
These are the great deeds for which Allah Almighty has specially prepared the highest chambers of Paradise for those who perform them.
Hazrat Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There are chambers in Paradise whose outside can be seen from the inside and whose inside can be seen from the outside.”
Then he said:
“Allah has prepared these chambers for the one who feeds others.”
“And speaks gently.”
“And he fasts frequently.”
“And at night he prays when people are asleep.”
(Complete Meaning)
These deeds—feeding people, adopting a gentle tone, observing voluntary fasts, and praying Tahajjud—are so beloved to Allah Almighty that in return, He grants transparent and lofty palaces in Paradise.
➍ Patience upon the death of offspring
If Allah Almighty takes away the son or daughter of a believer from this world and that servant remains patient, does not complain, avoids lamentation and distress, and says
“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Hazrat Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When the son of a servant dies, Allah asks the angels: Have you taken the soul of My servant’s son?”
The angels say: Yes.
Then it is said:
“Have you taken the piece of his heart?”
The angels say: Yes.
Then it is said:
“What did My servant say?”
They say:
“He praised You and recited:”
“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Then Allah Almighty says:
Translation
“Build a house for My servant in Paradise and name it Bayt al-Hamd (House of Praise).”
➎ Observance of Emphasized Sunnahs
Observing the emphasized Sunnahs before and after the obligatory prayers is also a cause for having a house in Paradise.
Hazrat Umm Habibah (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever prays twelve rak’ahs (Sunnah) during the day and night, a house will be built for him in Paradise.”
(Details: Four before Dhuhr, two after, two after Maghrib, two after Isha, two before Fajr)
➏ The Duha Prayer
The Duha prayer (Salat al-Awwabin) has great virtue.
Hazrat Abu Musa (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever prays four rak’ahs of Duha and four rak’ahs before Dhuhr, a house is built for him in Paradise.”
➐ Building a Mosque for the Pleasure of Allah
Building or having a mosque built is a great virtue.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, even if it is as small as a bird’s nest, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.”
➑ Expanding the Mosque
If a person is not able to build an entire mosque but contributes to its expansion according to his means, this act also leads to a house in Paradise.
Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), while describing his virtues during the days of his siege, said:
Translation
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who will buy this land and add it to the mosque? For him, there is a house in Paradise in return. So I bought that land and added it to the mosque.”
➒ Filling the Empty Space in the Row
Completing the rows in congregational prayer is part of its excellence. Whoever steps forward to fill the empty space in the row, Allah grants him a high reward.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever fills the empty space in the row, Allah raises his rank by one degree through him and builds a house for him in Paradise.”
➓ Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas Ten Times
The great virtue of Surah Al-Ikhlas is established by authentic hadiths. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared it equivalent to one-third of the Qur’an.
The Noble Prophet ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever recites Surah Al-Ikhlas ten times completely, Allah builds a palace for him in Paradise.”
Upon hearing this, Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA) said: Then I will recite it frequently.
You ﷺ said: (اَللّٰہُ أَکْثَرُ وَأَطْیَبُ)
“Allah is the One who gives even more and is much better.”
⓫ Avoiding Disputes
Islam is a religion of brotherhood and mutual love. Leaving disputes—even when one is right—is a great deed.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
[Translation]
“I guarantee a house at the edge of Paradise for the one who leaves a dispute even though he is right.”
⓬ Avoid lying even in joking
Truthfulness is the foundation of Islam. Lying is prohibited even in jest.
The Noble Prophet ﷺ said:
[Translation]
“And I guarantee a house in the middle of Paradise for the one who leaves lying even in joking.”
⓭ Good character
Good character will be the heaviest deed on the scale on the Day of Judgment.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
[Translation]
“The heaviest thing on the scale is good character.”
And He said:
[Translation]
“And I guarantee a house in the highest level of Paradise for the one who has good character.”
⓮ Staying connected with the Muslim community
Allah Almighty commands:
Translation
“Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation
“Whoever wants to dwell in the middle of Paradise should remain attached to the group (jama’ah).”
Conclusion
If we want to become true candidates for the houses and palaces of Paradise, then we must adorn our lives with faith, obedience, good character, and sincerity. We pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to perform these deeds and to grant us a place in the palaces of Jannat al-Firdaus. Ameen.
