❖ Question:
Is it permissible to recite the Qur’an in order to convey reward to someone who has passed away?
❖ Answer:
الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!
According to the Qur’an and Sunnah, there is no evidence that establishes Qur’an recitation as a means of conveying reward to the deceased.
✘ The Book of Allah and the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ do not contain any clear proof indicating that reciting the Qur’an specifically with the intention of transferring its reward to the deceased is legislated.
✘ Therefore, since no evidence exists in the Sharīʿah for this practice, it cannot be regarded as a valid, reward-conveying act.
✅ Conclusion:
✔ Recitation of the Qur’an as a formal practice for conveying reward to the deceased is not proven from the Qur’an or authentic Sunnah.
✘ Hence, it is not permissible to adopt it as a Sharʿīly approved or regular method for rewarding the deceased.
