❖ Question
Can an imām perform the funeral prayer for the same deceased person twice?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
Yes, an imām may lead the funeral prayer for the same deceased person more than once.
The evidence for this has been mentioned by Shaykh al-Albānī (رحمه الله) in his book Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz. He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the funeral prayer for Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib (رضي الله عنه) several times.
From this narration, it is established that:
- A funeral prayer may be offered more than once for the same deceased.
- The same imām can lead the prayer each time.
