❖ Question

Can a person in iʿtikāf (seclusion) perform acts of worship such as prayer, Qur’an recitation, and supplication in the mosque’s courtyard or open area, outside of his designated iʿtikāf cell?

❖ Answer

There is no evidence to declare such an action impermissible.
However, since iʿtikāf has a specific designated space, it is preferable that, except for obligatory prayers, these acts of worship be performed within the iʿtikāf area itself.
