❖ Question
Can a menstruating woman recite the Takbīrāt of the two ʿEids?
❖ Answer
Yes, a menstruating woman may recite the Takbīrāt of the ʿEids.
Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) is permitted for her, and the Takbīrāt of the ʿEids fall under dhikr. The only restriction upon a menstruating woman is reciting the Qur’an; other forms of dhikr remain permissible.
◈ Scholarly Consensus
❀ Imām al-Nawawī رحمه الله (d. 676 AH):
“The Muslims have consensus that for the one in a state of major impurity (junub) and for the menstruating woman, it is permissible to say Subḥānallāh, Lā ilāha illallāh, Allāhu Akbar, al-ḥamdu lillāh, to send ṣalāt upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and to do other forms of dhikr besides recitation of Qur’an. Along with ijmāʿ, this is supported by famous authentic aḥādīth.”
(al-Majmūʿ Sharḥ al-Muhadhdhab 2/164)
❀ Imām Ibn al-Mundhir رحمه الله (d. 319 AH):
“Scholars are in consensus that both (the junub and the menstruating woman) may remember Allah and glorify Him.”
(al-Ishrāf ʿalā Madhāhib al-ʿUlamāʾ 3/434)
✅ Conclusion
It is established that a person in major impurity, a menstruating woman, and a woman in postnatal bleeding may all recite the Takbīrāt of the ʿEids.
✔ Dhikr does not require wuḍūʾ.
✔ Preventing women from the dhikr of Allah is baseless.
