Baseless Comparisons and the Division of Responsibilities
❖ Humorous Messages and Absurd Comparisons
A friend once sent a text message that was both humorous and thought-provoking:
“No one can fix Pakistan. Everything is falling apart. Doctors are failing in hospitals, yet tailors are still sewing clothes every day!”
Surprised by the message, I asked for clarification. The reply came:
“Engineers are failing to build proper bridges and roads, corruption is rampant—yet farmers are growing crops and teachers are still teaching in schools.”
The friend meant to illustrate how today’s discussions are filled with illogical comparisons and misleading reasoning.
Just like some people blame religious scholars for failures in science, one might as well blame tailors for doctors’ shortcomings.
❖ Irrational Criticism and Misplaced Blame
In today’s world, it’s become common to target every field without proper understanding, especially in the name of criticism.
An oft-cited historical example is the fall of Baghdad, where it’s claimed that scholars were busy discussing minor legal issues while the city collapsed.
In reality, the fall of Baghdad was due to:
✔ The incompetence of the Caliph,
✔ Betrayal by the Prime Minister,
✔ And a lack of military strength.
But instead of acknowledging political and military failures, some distort history to place blame on the religious class.
Similarly, modern analysts often blame religious scholars for lack of scientific progress, even though this isn’t their domain.
❖ Every Field Has Its Own Duty
Each sector in society has its unique responsibilities:
◉ Scholars are entrusted with Islamic knowledge and jurisprudence—not scientific research.
◉ Doctors are responsible for healing the sick—not tailoring clothes.
◉ Farmers work the land and produce food—not build roads.
◉ Scientists are engaged in research and innovation—not issuing religious verdicts.
▶ When each sector performs its role diligently, the nation progresses.
▶ But when one group is blamed for another’s shortcomings, problems escalate.
❖ The Role of the State
A state functions properly when it oversees and balances all its institutions.
It must:
✔ Improve healthcare, education, and agriculture,
✔ Enforce law and order, and elevate public morality,
✔ Ban harmful practices, if needed,
✔ Eradicate poverty and solve people’s real issues.
A government cannot afford to focus on one issue while neglecting others. All areas must work in tandem.
❖ Conclusion
We must avoid unnecessary confusion and emotion-based reasoning.
Every profession holds intrinsic value, and the strength of a society lies in the proper functioning of all its sectors.
✔ Baseless comparisons only add to division,
✔ Whereas clear accountability and cooperation are the path forward for a stable and progressive society.
