[Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi: 2616]

✿ Translation:

“Shall I not inform you of the root of the matter, its pillar, and its peak?” I said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” He said: “The root of the matter is Islam, its pillar is the prayer, and its peak is Jihad.” Then he said: “Shall I not inform you of the controlling factor of all of this?” I said: “Yes, O Prophet of Allah!” He then held his tongue and said: “Control this.” I said: “O Prophet of Allah! Will we be held accountable for what we speak?” He said: “May your mother lose you, O Mu‘adh! Are people thrown into the Fire on their faces—or on their nostrils—except due to the harvests of their tongues?”

❖ Conclusion

✔ The Hadith “الصلاة عماد الدين“ is weak.

✔ However, the concept that prayer is the pillar of the religion is authentically proven from a Hadith in Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, as narrated by Sayyiduna Mu‘adh رضي الله عنه.
