✦ Adhan’s Prescribed Words
Hazrat Abdullah bin Zayd bin Abd Rabbah (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrates that a person came to him in a dream and said:
“Say the Adhan like this:”
Then he said:
“At the time of Iqamah, say this:”
Hazrat Abdullah (رضی اللہ عنہ) states that when he mentioned this dream to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the morning, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
“إنها لرؤيا حق إن شاء الله”
“Indeed, it is a true dream, In shaa Allah.”
Later, when Hazrat Bilal (رضی اللہ عنہ) was calling the Adhan as per my guidance, Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ عنہ), upon hearing this Adhan at his home, came out dragging his cloak and said:
“By the One Who has sent you with the truth, O Messenger of Allah! I have seen the same dream as he was shown.”
To this, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
“فلله الحمد”
“All praise is due to Allah.”
[Sahih: Sunan Abi Dawood 469, Kitab al-Salat: Bab Kayfa al-Adhan, Abu Dawood 499, Ibn Majah 706, Musnad Ahmad 42/4, Al-Bayhaqi 390/1, Al-Darimi 268/1, Al-Daraqutni 241/1, ‘Abd al-Razzaq 1787, Ibn Khuzaymah 371, Al-Bayhaqi 241/1]
✦ The Addition in Fajr Adhan
In the Fajr Adhan, after حيى على الفلاح, it is prescribed to say الصلاة خير من النوم twice, as evidenced by the following Ahadith:
➊ Narration of Hazrat Anas
“It is Sunnah that when the Mu’adhdhin says حيى على الفلاح during the Fajr Adhan, he should say: الصلاة خير من النوم”
[Sahih: Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 386, Al-Daraqutni 243/1, Al-Bayhaqi 423/1, Talkhis al-Habir 361/1]
➋ Narration of Hazrat Abu Mahdhurah
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) taught Hazrat Abu Mahdhurah (رضی اللہ عنہ) how to call the Adhan and instructed:
“If it is the Fajr prayer, then say during the Adhan: الصلاة خير من النوم ، الصلاة خير من النوم”
[Sahih: Sahih Abu Dawood 472, Kitab al-Salat: Bab Kayfa al-Adhan, Abu Dawood 500]
✔ Summary:
◈ The words of Adhan and Iqamah are derived from authentic dreams verified by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and affirmed by other companions.
◈ The inclusion of الصلاة خير من النوم specifically in the Fajr Adhan is Sunnah and supported by multiple sound narrations.
