Shar‘i Ruling on Attending Invitations of Shia Relatives

❖ Question:
Is it permissible to attend a Shia relative’s invitation, such as a wedding ceremony?

❖ Answer by: Shaykh Abdul Wakeel Nasir ḥafiẓahullāh

① Caution in Relations with Shia Relatives

◈ When dealing with the Shia (Rāfiḍah), Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah must exercise caution and prudence.

◈ Avoiding severance of ties (qaṭʿ al-raḥim) is essential, but maintaining formal and limited interaction is sufficient.

② Attending Wedding Ceremonies

◈ Weddings generally symbolize close relations and deep personal ties, where only intimate friends and family are invited.

◈ Therefore, avoiding attendance at such invitations is preferable to prevent ideological harm or religious compromise.

◈ Additionally, there may be spiritual risks, such as exposure to sorcery (siḥr) or other problematic elements, making caution even more important.

❖ Summary:

✔ Maintain formal relations with Shia relatives and do not sever family ties.
✔ Avoid attending weddings or close personal ceremonies, as a measure of protection for one’s ʿaqīdah and spiritual well-being.
✔ Exercising caution is the better and safer path.
