The Illusion of Atheism in Pakistan and the Reality of Public Beliefs
✒ A critical analysis of ideological ambitions versus societal truths
◈ Deep-Rooted Religious Sentiments of the Pakistani People
The Pakistani nation has a profound emotional and intellectual attachment to religion, particularly Islam. Given this reality, the idea of turning 160 million people into liberals or atheists overnight is a fantasy detached from ground realities.
✔ Religion is so deeply entrenched in the minds of the masses that even religious scholars are sometimes astonished at the people’s emotional and rigid adherence.
✔ The public clings so strongly to their traditional beliefs that:
• They fall prey to fraudulent spiritual healers (fake pirs).
• They become overly emotional and prejudiced due to fiery speeches from passionate preachers.
• Yet, they remain unwilling to abandon their religious worldview, no matter what.
◈ The Dream of Spreading Atheism: Far from Reality
Anyone who believes that Islam can be uprooted from Pakistan through a few Facebook pages, media anchors, or columnists is pursuing nothing more than a dream.
✔ An atheist would need centuries of continuous effort to even begin challenging religious consciousness.
✔ When people are not ready to abandon minor cultural or superstitious beliefs, how can one expect them to reject the core belief in the existence of Allah?
◈ Pakistan’s Ideological Foundation
Pakistan is not just a country; it is an ideological state founded upon Islam:
✔ The people of Pakistan are proud of their religious identity.
✔ The Ideology of Pakistan, Two-Nation Theory, and loyalty to Islam are considered fundamental principles of national identity.
◈ Atheism and Sociocultural Reality
The prominent Islamic presence in Pakistan often frustrates atheists:
✔ Public expressions of faith — like beards, niqabs, and the call to prayer — become sources of psychological discomfort for them.
✔ During Ramadan and Islamic festivals, atheist reactions often reveal deeper social tensions.
◈ Atheist Agendas and Anti-Pakistan Sentiments
Some atheists in Pakistan fantasize about a secular revolution, akin to the one led by Kemal Atatürk in Turkey. But repeated failures have led this group to openly express hostility toward Pakistan.
Their antagonism is seen in several ways:
✔ Denouncing the creation of Pakistan.
✔ Criticizing Pakistan’s refusal to recognize Israel.
✔ Defaming the military and security institutions.
✔ Inciting sectarianism and social unrest.
◈ Methods of Revolutionary Ambitions
In their attempt to force a secular ideological shift, some atheists engage in alarming activities:
✔ Promoting chaos, unrest, and civil disturbance.
✔ Creating rifts between the public and the armed forces.
✔ Celebrating terrorist incidents and blaming Islam and religious scholars.
◈ Pakistan’s Unfavorable Environment for Atheism
The social, cultural, and ideological environment in Pakistan is completely unsuitable for the rise of atheism.
✔ If atheists cannot coexist with this reality, they are left with only two logical options:
① Adapt to the realities of Pakistan and abandon anti-national activities.
② Migrate to a country where the environment is more aligned with their ideological beliefs.
