19- Allah Almighty alone is the Creator and alone is worthy of worship
Question:
I got into a debate and argument with a Christian, and during that conversation he asked whether Allah Almighty has the power and ability to create another deity like Himself. I fell silent and did not have the courage to answer. Please guide us: what is the answer to this?
Answer:
Allah Almighty has said in the Noble Qur’an:
مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
“Allah has not taken any offspring, nor was there ever any deity along with Him. In that case, every deity would surely have gone off with what he had created, and certainly some of them would have risen up against others. Glorified is Allah above what they describe.”
In this verse, Allah Almighty has mentioned their opposition to one another in the case of there being other deities. Therefore, if another deity is imagined, the following faults necessarily follow from it:
① By saying إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ, Allah Almighty made clear that each deity would take his created beings and become separate and apart, the rule of one would be separate from the other, and the two would quarrel with each other and try to overcome one another. Allah, the Lord of the worlds, is free of all such weaknesses.
② The second fault is that there would be disagreement between the two at all times, each would be occupied with overcoming the other and seizing whatever he had, and the stronger one would be preoccupied with prevailing over the one weaker than himself and seizing his rule, as Allah Almighty says:
وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ
“And certainly some of them would have risen up against others.”
Allah Almighty is far exalted above this saying of the wrongdoers.
③ If that were to happen, the earth and the heavens and all the creation living between them would be destroyed and ruined, as Allah Almighty has said:
لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلَّا اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
“If there were in them both any deities other than Allah, the two would surely have fallen into ruin. So glorified is Allah, the Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.”
The meaning of there being a deity along with Allah Almighty is that each one would be able to decide according to his own will; the result would only be fighting and quarrelling, and the entire system of the earth and the heavens would be left destroyed and ruined. The Being of Allah Almighty is far above all such defects.
Therefore, a person who has little knowledge and no understanding should not debate and argue with such misguided people, because due to lack of knowledge, a person cannot give the correct answer to an objection, nor can he present the strong position that he has, with the result that there is a danger of the person himself falling into doubts and misgivings, and this is precisely the aim of these people.
