Is It Permissible to Take a Fee for Ruqyah (Healing with the Quran)?

Compiled by: Dr. Rizā Abdullah Pāshā (May Allah Protect Him)

Answer:

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

« إن أحق ما أخذتم عليه أجرا كتاب الله »

"The most rightful thing for which you can take a fee is the Book of Allah."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 5737)

Based on this Hadith, it is permissible for the one performing ruqyah (spiritual healing) with the Quran to take a fee or gift in return for their services. This is because the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) allowed those companions who had performed ruqyah on a person bitten by a snake to take a fee for their services. However, the fee is for the work and time spent, not for the Quran itself.
