1. Tafsir al-Tabari (جامع البيان عن تأويل آي القرآن)Authored by: Imam Abu Ja'far al-Tabari (d. 310H)
The greatest classical tafsir based on riwayah (reports).
Relies on statements of the Sahabah and Tabi'in.
Ibn Taymiyyah repeatedly praised it.
2. Tafsir Ibn Kathir (تفسير القرآن العظيم)Authored by: Imam Ibn Kathir (d. 774H)
Most recommended tafsir for the general Muslim today.
Based heavily on authentic ahadith and reports of the Salaf.
Shaykh Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymeen, al-Albani and many others constantly advised it.
3. Tafsir al-Baghawi (معالم التنزيل)Authored by: Imam al-Baghawi (d. 516H)
Known as Khulāsat Tafsīr al-Tabari because it removes weak reports.
Highly praised by Ibn Taymiyyah and later scholars.
4. Tafsir al-Sa'di (تيسير الكريم الرحمن)Authored by: Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Sa'di (d. 1376H)
Clear, simple, based on correct Aqeedah.
Widely taught by Salafi scholars today.
Ibn Uthaymeen recommended it strongly.
5. Tafsir Ibn Jarir + Ibn Kathir combinationShaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:
