Hadith 55
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ بَاتَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ خَالَتِهِ مَيْمُونَةَ , " فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ شَنَّةٍ مُعَلَّقَةٍ " , قَالَ : فَوَصَفَ وُضُوءَهُ , وَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّلُهُ بِيَدِهِ , ثُمَّ قَامَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَصَنَعَ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ , " فَأَخْلَفَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَصَلَّى , ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَحَ " , ثُمَّ أَتَى بِلالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصُّبْحِ , " فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ " . قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : لأَنَّهُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَتْ تَنَامُ عَيْنَاهُ وَلا يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he spent the night at the house of his maternal aunt Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), on the night when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also with Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). During the night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up and performed ablution from a hanging water-skin. The narrator says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) also described the manner of performing ablution and indicated with his hand that little water was used. Then Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) got up and performed ablution in the same way, and says: When I returned, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying. I stood on his left side, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of me from behind and turned me to stand on his right side. Then he prayed, then lay down until he began to snore. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came (and gave the call to prayer for Fajr) and informed him of the Fajr prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer and did not perform ablution again. The hadith scholar Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) says: It has reached us that the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sleep but his heart would remain awake.
Hadith 56
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، سَمِعَ عَمَّهُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : " صَلَّيْتُ أَنَا وَيَتِيمٌ لَنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَيْتِنَا , وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ خَلْفَنَا " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I and an orphan boy offered prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in our house, and (our mother) Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) was standing behind us.
Hadith 57
وَأَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ بَاتَ عِنْدَ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ خَالَتُهُ , قَالَ : فَاضْطَجَعْتُ فِي عَرْضِ الْوِسَادَةِ , " وَاضْطَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَهْلُهُ فِي طُولِهَا , فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , حَتَّى إِذَا انْتَصَفَ اللَّيْلُ أَوْ قَبْلَهُ بِقَلِيلٍ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ , اسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَجَلَسَ يَمْسَحُ النَّوْمَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ بِيَدَيْهِ , ثُمَّ قَرَأَ الْعَشْرَ الآيَاتِ الْخَوَاتِمَ مِنْ سُورَةِ آلِ عِمْرَانَ , ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى شَنٍّ مُعَلَّقَةٍ , فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْهَا فَأَحْسَنَ وُضُوءَهُ , ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي " , قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : فَقُمْتُ فَصَنَعْتُ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ , ثُمَّ ذَهَبْتُ فَقُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ , " فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى رَأْسِي , فَأَخَذَ بِأُذُنِي يَفْتِلُهَا , فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ , ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى جَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ , فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he spent the night at the house of his maternal aunt and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I lay across the pillow while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wife lay lengthwise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept until half the night or a little before it, then he woke up and wiped sleep from his face with his hand. Then he recited the last [ten verses] of Surah Al-Imran [سورة آل عمران: 190-200], then went to the hanging water-skin, performed an excellent ablution, and began to pray. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I also did as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did, then I went and stood by his side. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his right hand on my head and took hold of my ear (affectionately) and twisted it (i.e., when I stood on his left side, he took me by the ear and made me stand on his right side). He prayed two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then prayed witr, then lay down until the mu’adhdhin came. Then he stood up and prayed two light rak‘ahs, then went out from the chamber and led the Fajr prayer.
Hadith 58
أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ جَدَّتَهُ مُلَيْكَةَ دَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَتْهُ , فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ , ثُمَّ قَالَ : " قُومُوا , فَلأُصَلِّ لَكُمْ " , قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَقُمْتُ إِلَى حَصِيرٍ لَنَا قَدِ اسْوَدَّ مِنْ طُولِ مَا لُبِسَ , فَنَضَحْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ , فَقَامَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَصَفَفْتُ أَنَا وَالْيَتِيمُ وَرَاءَهُ , وَالْعَجُوزُ مِنْ وَرَائِنَا , فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ , ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that his grandmother Malikah (may Allah be pleased with her) invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a meal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate the food, then he said: "Stand up so that I may lead you in prayer." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I washed a mat which had turned black due to long use. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on it, I and an orphan stood behind him, and my grandmother stood behind us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in two rak‘ahs of prayer, then he departed.
