Hadith 37
أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ أَذَّنَ بِالصَّلاةِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ ذَاتِ بَرْدٍ وَرِيحٍ , فَقَالَ : أَلا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ , ثُمّ قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ الْمُؤَذِّنَ إِذَا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةٌ بَارِدَةٌ ذَاتُ مَطَرٍ يَقُولُ : " أَلا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ " .
It is narrated from Nafi‘ (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) gave the call to prayer on a cold, chilly night and said: «أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ» "Beware! Perform the prayer in your dwellings." Then he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would order the mu’adhdhin on cold and rainy nights to say these words: «أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ»
Hadith 38
أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ مُنَادِيَهُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْمَطِيرَةِ أَوِ اللَّيْلَةِ الْبَارِدَةِ ذَاتِ رِيحٍ : " أَلا صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that on a rainy night or a cold, windy night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would instruct the muezzin to announce: «أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ» Beware, people! Pray in your homes.
Hadith 39
أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا سَمِعْتُمُ النِّدَاءَ فَقُولُوا مِثْلَ مَا يَقُولُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear the call to prayer (Adhan), then say what the caller (Mu'adhdhin) says."
Hadith 40
وَأَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، أَنَّ عِيسَى بْنَ عُمَرَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ , أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ : إِنِّي لَعِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذْ أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُهُ , فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ كَمَا قَالَ مُؤَذِّنُهُ , حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ قَالَ : " لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ " , وَلَمَا قَالَ : حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلاحِ ، قَالَ : " لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ " , ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ , ثُمَّ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Alqamah bin Waqas, may Allah have mercy on him, that he was with Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, when his muezzin gave the call to prayer. Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, would repeat just as the muezzin said, until when the muezzin said «حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ», «حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ», Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, said «لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ», then he repeated the remaining words just as the muezzin had said. Then Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying just like this."
Hadith 41
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا " يَفْتَتِحَانِ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would begin the recitation of prayer «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ» in a loud voice.
Hadith 42
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ , وَعُمَرُ , وَعُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ يَفْتَتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) used to begin the (audible) recitation with «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ».
Hadith 43
وَأَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ كَانُوا يَفْتَتِحُونَ الصَّلاةَ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) would begin the prayer (aloud) with ﴿الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ﴾ [سورة الفاتحة: 2].
Hadith 44
وَأَنْبَأَنَا وَأَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ , أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى مُعَاوِيَةُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ صَلاةً فَجَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ , فَقَرَأَ فِيهَا : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 لأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ , وَلَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا لِلسُّورَةِ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا , حَتَّى قَضَى تِلْكَ الصَّلاةَ , وَلَمْ يُكَبِّرْ حِينَ يَهْوِي سَاجِدًا , حَتَّى قَضَى تِلْكَ الصَّلاةَ , فَلَمَّا نَادَاهُ مَنْ سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنْصَارِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ : يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ , أَسَرَقْتَ الصَّلاةَ ؟ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ ! قَالَ : فَلَمَّا صَلَّى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قَرَأَ : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 , لِلسُّورَةِ الَّتِي بَعْدَ أُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ , وَكَبَّرَ حِينَ يَهْوِي سَاجِدًا . سَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ الْمُزَنِيَّ يَقُولُ : قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَدْ خُولِفَ ابْنُ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ فِي هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ , وَالْحَدِيثُ صَحِيحٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) led a loud (jahri) prayer in Madinah. Before Surah Al-Fatihah, he recited «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ», but after Al-Fatihah, when he recited another Surah, he did not recite Bismillah aloud with it, until he completed the prayer. And when he went into prostration, he did not say Allahu Akbar aloud until he finished the prayer. From all sides, the Muhajirun and Ansar raised their voices, saying, "O Muawiyah! Have you stolen from the prayer or have you forgotten?" Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after that, whenever Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) led the prayer, he recited Bismillah aloud with every Surah and also said Takbir aloud when going into prostration.
Hadith 45
أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا قُلْتَ لِصَاحِبِكَ : أَنْصِتْ , وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَقَدْ لَغَوْتَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the Imam is delivering the Friday sermon, (if your companion was talking and you say to him to make him quiet) 'Brother, be silent,' then you have engaged in idle talk."
Hadith 46
أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا قُلْتَ لِصَاحِبِكَ : أَنْصِتْ , فَقَدْ لَغَوْتَ " . يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you say to your companion 'Be quiet,' then you too have engaged in idle talk." By this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, meant speaking during the Friday sermon.
