Hadith 161
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي جَمْرَةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: إِنِّي لَأَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مَرَّةً، أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ - قَالَ: فَأَكْثَرُ ظَنِّي أَنَّهُ قَالَ: مَرَّتَيْنِ -، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: لَأَنْ لَا أَقْرَأَ إِلَّا سُورَةً وَاحِدَةً أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَصْنَعَ ذَلِكَ، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَاقْرَأْ قِرَاءَةً تُسْمِعُ أُذُنَيْكَ وَتُوعِيهِ قَلْبَكَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "It is more beloved to me that I recite only one Surah rather than completing the entire Qur'an once or twice in a single night. If you wish to do so, then recite in such a way that your ears can hear it and your heart can understand it."
Hadith 162
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ وَيَحْيَى ابْنَيْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَبَّانٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ يُسْأَلُ عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ، قَالَ: لَأَنْ أَقْرَأَ فِي شَهْرٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ، وَخَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ عَشْرٍ، وَعَشْرٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ سَبْعٍ، أَقِفُ عِنْدَمَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ أَقِفَ عِنْدَهُ، وَأَدْعُوا اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَأَسْأَلُ .
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the recitation of the Qur'an, so he said: I prefer to recite the Qur'an in one month rather than in fifteen days, and I prefer to recite it in fifteen days rather than in ten days, and I prefer to recite it in ten days rather than in seven days. I will pause where it is necessary to pause, and I will supplicate to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and ask of Him.
Hadith 163
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ يَدْرُسُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ .
It is narrated from Umair bin Rabee’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) that I saw Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) giving a lesson of the Qur’an to some of his companions.
Hadith 164
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، قَالَ: أُتِيَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بِمُصْحَفٍ قَدْ زُيِّنَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَحْسَنَ مَا زُيِّنَ بِهِ الْمُصْحَفُ تِلَاوَتُهُ بِالْحَقِّ .
It is narrated from Shafeeq (may Allah have mercy on him) that a decorated Mushaf was brought to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: The best adornment that can be given to the Qur'an is to recite it with truth.
Hadith 165
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: إِذَا حَلَّيْتُمْ مَصَاحِفَكُمْ، وَزَخْرَفْتُمْ مَسَاجِدَكُمْ، فَالدَّمَارُ عَلَيْكُمْ .
It is narrated from Abu Sa'id Ansari (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you adorn your copies of the Qur'an and decorate your mosques with embellishments, destruction will come upon you.
Hadith 166
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْإِيَادِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ، عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: اقْرَؤُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ، فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فَقُومُوا .
Sayyiduna Jundub bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts are united upon it, but when there is disagreement, then get up.
Hadith 167
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنَّ لِهَذَا الْقُرْآنِ شِرَّةً، ثُمَّ إِنَّ لِلنَّاسِ عَنْهُ فَتْرَةً، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ فَتْرَتُهُ إِلَى الْقَصْدِ فَنِعِمَّا هُوَ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ فَتْرَتُهُ إِلَى الْإِعْرَاضِ فَأُولَئِكُمْ بُورٌ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, there comes a time of eagerness and desire for this Qur'an, then a time comes upon people when they become indifferent to it. So, the one whose indifference is moderate, he is good, and the one whose indifference leads to abandonment, then he is among the destroyed.
