Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It was said that selling, buying, and writing the Qur’an for a wage was disliked. It was also said that the Mushaf is not given as inheritance, rather it is for the reciters of the household. It was also disliked to adorn the Mushaf, or to make it small or large. It was said: Honor the Qur’an and do not include unrelated things in it. Writing it in gold and placing marks at the heads of the verses was disliked. It was also said: Keep the Qur’an pure.

Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: ﴿And if We willed, We could surely take away that which We have revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself concerning it any trustee against Us.﴾ [سورہ الإسراء: 86]

Sayyiduna Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you want to hang the bow of Hellfire around your neck? So that man returned the bow to its owner.

Then, in the morning, he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was wearing that bow. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who gave you this weapon?" Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Tufail bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) did; I had taught him the Qur'an." Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have hung a piece of the fire of Hell around your neck." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We also eat their food?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If food is prepared for others and you are present there, then there is no harm in eating it, but if it is made especially for you, then you are eating it only in exchange for your (religious) work (reward)."
