Hadith 3790
نَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ بُهْلُولٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِسُفْيَانَ : " يُزَوِّجُ الرَّجُلُ كَرِيمَتَهُ مِنْ ذِي الدِّينِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنِ الْمَنْصِبُ مِثْلَهُ ؟ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Ishaq bin Bahlul narrates: I said to Sufyan, "If a person is not equal to a girl in terms of status, can someone marry his (sister or daughter) to a religious (but lesser in financial or familial status) person?" He replied, "Yes."
Hadith 3791
نَا الْحُسَيْنُ ، نَا إِسْحَاقُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ وَكِيعًا ، عَنِ الْكُفْؤِ ، فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : " الْكُفْؤُ فِي الدِّينِ وَالْمَنْصِبِ " ، قَالَ وَكِيعٌ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا حَنِيفَةَ ، يَقُولُ : " الْكُفْؤُ فِي الدِّينِ وَالْمَنْصِبِ ، وَالْمَالِ ".
Ibn Abi Layla says: Consideration will be given to compatibility in religion and status. Waki‘ narrates: I heard Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: “Consideration will be given to compatibility in religion, status, and wealth.”
Hadith 3792
نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، نَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ، نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " زَوَّجْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ وَزَيْدًا لِيَكُونَ أَشْرَفُكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَحْسَنَكُمْ خُلُقًا " .
Shu'bi narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I married (your women) to Miqdad and Zayd, because the most honorable among you in the sight of Allah is the one whose character is the best."
Hadith 3793
نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثِ ، نَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ النَّحَّاسِ ، نَا ضَمْرَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ ، وَابْنِ سَمْعَانَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هِنْدَ مَوْلَى بَنِي بَيَاضَةَ كَانَ حَجَّامًا " فَحَجَمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى مَنْ صَوَّرَ اللَّهُ الإِيمَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى أَبِي هِنْدَ، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَنْكِحُوهُ وَأَنْكِحُوا إِلَيْهِ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The slave of Banu Bayadah, Abu Hind, used to perform cupping. He performed cupping for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever wants to see a person in whose heart Allah Almighty has inscribed faith, let him look at Abu Hind." The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: "Marry (your female relative) to him, and establish a relationship with him."
Hadith 3794
نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، نَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هِنْدَ " حَجَمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْيَافُوخِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا بَنِي بَيَاضَةَ ، أَنْكِحُوا أَبَا هِنْدَ وَأَنْكِحُوا إِلَيْهِ " .
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Abu Hind applied cupping to the blessed head of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Banu Bayadah! Arrange a marriage for Abu Hind and marry him (to one of your daughters)."
Hadith 3795
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ، نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي الطَّيِّبِ ، نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى مَنْ نَوَّرَ اللَّهُ الإِيمَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى أَبِي هِنْدَ ، وَقَالَ : أَنْكِحُوهُ وَأَنْكِحُوا إِلَيْهِ ، وَكَانَ حَجَّامًا " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wants to see a person whose heart Allah has illuminated with faith, let him look at Abu Hind." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry him (to someone) and give (your daughter) to him in marriage." The narrator states: That person used to practice cupping.
Hadith 3796
نَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ الْمُهْتَدِي بِاللَّهِ ، نَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ ، نَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ ، نَا حَفْصُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَسَدِيُّ ، عَنِ الْكُمَيْتِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَذْكُورٌ مَوْلَى زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ ، قَالَتْ : " خَطَبَنِي عِدَّةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَأَرْسَلَتْ أُخْتِي حَمْنَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْتَشِيرُهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيْنَ هِيَ مِمَّنْ يُعَلِّمُهَا كِتَابَ رَبِّهَا وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهَا ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : وَمَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ ، فَغَضِبَتْ حَمْنَةُ غَضَبًا شَدِيدًا ، وَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتُزَوِّجُ ابْنَةَ عَمِّكَ مَوْلاكَ ؟ ، قَالَتْ : وَجَاءَتْنِي فَأَخْبَرَتْنِي فَغَضِبْتُ أَشَدَّ مِنْ غَضَبِهَا وَقُلْتُ أَشَدَّ مِنْ قَوْلِهَا ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَمْرًا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ سورة الأحزاب آية 36 ، فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَوِّجْنِي مِمَّنْ شِئْتَ ، فَزَوَّجَنِي زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ فَأَخَذْتُهُ بِلِسَانِي ، فَشَكَانِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ " ، وَذَكَرَ بَاقِيَ الْحَدِيثِ.
Lady Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Several individuals from the Quraysh sent me proposals of marriage, so I sent my sister Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that I could consult him about this matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Why does she not marry the man who has taught her the Book of her Lord and the Sunnah of His Prophet?" Hamnah asked: O Messenger of Allah! Who is that man? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zayd bin Harithah." Hamnah became angry and said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you marry your cousin to your (freed, former) slave? Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Hamnah came to me and informed me about this, and I became even angrier and used harsher words than her. Then Allah revealed this verse: "It is not for a believing man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair." Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Marry me to whomever you wish. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married me to Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him). I showed harshness towards him, so he complained about me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep your wife with you (i.e., do not think of divorcing her) and fear Allah." After that, he mentioned the rest of the hadith.
Hadith 3797
نَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَتِيقِ ، نَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ الْجُمَحِيِّ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ أُخْتَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ تَحْتَ بِلالٍ " .
Hanzalah bin Abu Sufyan narrates from his mother: The sister of Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was the wife of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 3798
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِشْكَابَ ، نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ . ح وَنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، نَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، قَالا : نَا سَلامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَسَبُ : الْمَالُ ، وَالْكَرَمُ : التَّقْوَى " .
Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wealth is according to possessions, and nobility is piety."
Hadith 3799
نَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، نَا بُنْدَارٌ ، نَا مَعْدِيُّ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، نَا ابْنُ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ ، وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wealth is according to possessions, and nobility is piety."
Hadith 3800
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " أَهَذِهِ الآيَةُ مُشْتَرَكَةٌ ؟ ، قَالَ : أَيُّ آيَةٍ ؟ ، قُلْتُ : وَأُولاتُ الأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ سورة الطلاق آية 4 ، الْمُطَلَّقَةُ ، وَالْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا ؟ ، فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Is the ruling of this verse common for both divorced and widowed women?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Which verse?" I said, "(This verse:) 'And the waiting period of pregnant women ends with the delivery of their child.'" So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Yes."
Hadith 3801
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ ، نَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، نَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، نَا الْمُثَنَّى بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " عَنْ وَأُولاتُ الأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ سورة الطلاق آية 4 ، أَمُبْهَمَةٌ هِيَ لِلْمُطَلَّقَةِ ثَلاثًا ، أَوْ لِلْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا ، قَالَ : هِيَ لِلْمُطَلَّقَةِ ثَلاثًا ، وَالْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا " .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this verse: "And the waiting period of pregnant women ends with the delivery of their child." It is ambiguous whether this is for a thrice-divorced woman or for a widow? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is for both the thrice-divorced woman and the widow."
Hadith 3802
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ لأَرْبَعٍ : لِمَالِهَا ، وَحَسَبِهَا ، وَدِينِهَا ، وَجَمَالِهَا ، فَاظْفَرْ بِذَاتِ الدِّينِ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "A woman is married for four reasons: her wealth, her lineage, her religiousness, and her beauty. May your hands be dust-ridden, attain success by giving preference to the religious woman."
Hadith 3803
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ ، نَا أَبُو الْمُطَرِّفِ بْنُ أَبِي الْوَزِيرِ . ح وَنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ النَّسَائِيُّ ، نَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، قَالا : نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَمَّتِهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى ثَلاثِ خِصَالٍ : عَلَى مَالِهَا ، وَدِينِهَا ، وَجَمَالِهَا ، فَعَلَيْكَ بِذَاتِ الدِّينِ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman is married for three reasons: her wealth, her beauty, and her religion. So give preference to the religious woman, may your hands be dust-covered."
Hadith 3804
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّقَاشِيُّ ، نَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْعَلاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كَرَمُ الْمَرْءِ دِينُهُ ، وَمُرُوءَتُهُ عَقْلُهُ ، وَحَسَبُهُ خُلُقُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A man's honor is his religion, his dignity is his intellect, and his excellence is his character."
Hadith 3805
نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَحْسَابُ أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا هَذَا الْمَالُ " .
Abdullah bin Buraidah narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "In the eyes of the people of the world, the standard of virtue is wealth."
Hadith 3806
نَا نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، نَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ زِيَادَ بْنَ حُدَيْرٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، يَقُولُ : " حَسَبُ الْمَرْءِ دِينُهُ ، وَمُرُوءَتُهُ خُلُقُهُ ، وَأَصْلُهُ عَقْلُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "A man's virtue is his religion, his dignity, and his character, and his origin (excellence) is his intellect."
Hadith 3807
نَا نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نَا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ ، نَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ فَائِدٍ الْعَبْسِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عِمْرَانُ : " الشَّجَاعَةُ وَالْجُبْنُ ، غَرَائِزُ فِي الرِّجَالِ ، وَالْكَرَمُ وَالْحَسَبُ ، فَكَرَمُ الرَّجُلِ دِينُهُ ، وَحَسَبُهُ خُلُقُهُ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ فَارِسِيًّا أَوْ نَبَطِيًّا " .
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Bravery and cowardice are found among men, and the same is true for generosity and lineage. A man's generosity is his religion, and a man's lineage is his character, whether he is a Persian or a Syrian."
