It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) offered the sacrifice (of Eid al-Adha) before the prayer. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, he called for him, and he related his situation to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “Your goat is for meat only (i.e., it is not a sacrifice).” Sayyiduna Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have a kid goat that is a year old, or he said: I have a goat’s jadh‘a (one-year-old) which is, in my view, dearer to me than two goats. He said: “Sacrifice this one-year-old kid (it will suffice for sacrifice), but after you, no one will be allowed to offer a one-year-old kid as a sacrifice.” Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It was also read to Muhammad (bin Yusuf) from Sufyan: “And whoever slaughters after the prayer while the Imam is delivering the sermon, his sacrifice will be valid.”
