It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man slaughtered the sacrificial animal before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) returned home after the prayer, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to offer another sacrifice.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2000 to 2002)
In the first hadith, it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Abu Burdah radi Allahu anhu performed the sacrifice (qurbani) before the Eid prayer, and this was because he wished that his name be recorded among those who performed the sacrifice first, as is mentioned in the narration of Bukhari.
And this indicates the eagerness and intense desire of the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in to excel in righteous deeds.
The purpose of Imam Darimi rahimahullah mentioning this hadith here is to clarify that whoever performs the sacrifice before the prayer and before the imam, his sacrifice is not valid; he must perform the sacrifice again, as is stated in another narration.
Here, “imam” refers to the caliph and ruler, and the objective is to follow the imam, which is always required in Islamic affairs.
Even in the present era, if this is acted upon, it is very good.
Another issue derived from this hadith is that for the sacrifice of a goat, it should be a mature (musinnah) animal with adult teeth. The permission for sacrificing a one-year-old kid was given by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to Sayyiduna Abu Burdah radi Allahu anhu due to his necessity, because he did not have any other sacrificial animal available. Furthermore, it was clarified that after him, no one else is permitted to sacrifice a one-year-old kid.
From Sayyiduna Abu Burdah radi Allahu anhu performing the sacrifice at his home, it is established that the sacrifice should be performed in one’s own home; it can also be done near the place of sacrifice or the Eid ground.
However, bones, meat, etc., should not be thrown on the pathways, as this is a disrespect to the blessing of Allah and also causes harm and inconvenience to passersby, which is prohibited in the Shari‘ah.
