Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ لِأُمِّ سُلَيْم : قَدْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ ثَوْبِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ ، فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلِطَعَامٍ ؟ " ، فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ : " قُومُوا " ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ : قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ ، فَقَالَتْ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلُمِّي مَا عِنْدَكِ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ " ، فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا ، فَأَدَمَتْهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ حَتَّى أَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ رَجُلًا أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Abu Talha said to Umm Sulaim: I felt some feebleness in the voice of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and perceived that it was due to hunger; so have you anything with you? She said: Yes. She brought out barley loaves, then took out a head-covering of hers, in a part of which she wrapped those loaves and then put them beneath my mantle and covered me with a part of it. She then sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . I set forth and found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sitting in the mosque in the company of some persons. I stood near them, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Has Abu Talha sent you? I said, Yes. He said: Is it for a feast? I said. Yes. Thereupon Allah's messenger (ﷺ) said to those who were with him to get up. He went forth and so I did before them, until I came to Abu Talha and informed him. Abu Talba said: Umm Sulaim, here comes Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) along with people and we do not have enough (food) to feed them. She said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Abu Talha went out (to receive him) until he met Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) came forward along with him until they both (Allah's Messenger, along with Abu Talha) came in. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Umm Sulaim, bring forth that which you have with you. She brought the bread. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) commanded that the bread be broken into small pieces, and when Umm Sulaim had squeezed a small waterskin and put seasoning on it, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited something regarding it what Allah wished him to say. He then said: Allow ten (guests to come in and have their meals). He permitted them; they ate until they had their fill. They then went out. He (the Holy Prophet) again said: Permit ten (more) and he (the host gave permission to them. They ate until they had enough. Then they went out. he again said: Permit ten (more) until all the people had eaten to their fill, and they were seventy or eighty persons.
Hadith 2040
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَدْعُوَهُ وَقَدْ جَعَلَ طَعَامًا ، قَالَ : فَأَقْبَلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ النَّاسِ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَجِبْ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، فَقَالَ لِلنَّاسِ : " قُومُوا " ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا صَنَعْتُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَالَ : فَمَسَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَدَعَا فِيهَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَدْخِلْ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي عَشَرَةً " ، وَقَالَ : " كُلُوا وَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ شَيْئًا مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ " فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا فَخَرَجُوا ، فَقَالَ : " أَدْخِلْ عَشَرَةً " ، فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا فَمَا زَالَ يُدْخِلُ عَشَرَةً وَيُخْرِجُ عَشَرَةً حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا دَخَلَ ، فَأَكَلَ حَتَّى شَبِعَ ثُمَّ هَيَّأَهَا ، فَإِذَا هِيَ مِثْلُهَا حِينَ أَكَلُوا مِنْهَا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in order to invite him (for meal). She had prepared a meal. So I came and found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) along with some people. He looked at me, and I felt shy and said: Accept the invitation of Abu Talha. He (the Holy Prophet) asked the people to get up. Thereupon Abu Talha said: Allah's Messenger, I have prepared something for you. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) touched (the food) and invoked blessings upon it, and then said: Let ten persons from my Companions enter (the house). He then said: Eat, and (in the meanwhile) brought out something from between his fingers for them. They then began to eat until they had their fill and then went out. He then asked ten more men (to have the meal) and they ate to their fill, and the ten persons went on getting in (and eating the food) and then getting out until none was left amongst them who had not got in and eaten to his fill. He then collected (the remaining part of the food) and it (the quantity of the food) was the same (as it had been prior to the serving of guests).
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَي الْأُمَوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ نُمَيْر ٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ : " ثُمَّ أَخَذَ مَا بَقِيَ فَجَمَعَهُ ثُمَّ دَعَا فِيهِ بِالْبَرَكَةِ " ، قَالَ : فَعَادَ كَمَا كَانَ ، فَقَالَ دُونَكُمْ هَذَا .
Anas b Malik reported: Abu Talha sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ; the rest of the hadith is the same, but 'there is a slight variation of wording that he said at the end (The Holy Prophet) took what was left (of the food) and collected it and then invoked blessings upon it and it returned to its original state. He (the Holy Prophet) then said: Take this.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّقِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَمَرَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ أَنْ تَصْنَعَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا لِنَفْسِهِ خَاصَّةً ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْهِ ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَوَضَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ وَسَمَّى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَدَخَلُوا ، فَقَالَ : " كُلُوا وَسَمُّوا اللَّهَ " ، فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِثَمَانِينَ رَجُلًا ، ثُمَّ أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، وَأَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ وَتَرَكُوا سُؤْرًا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha ordered Umm Sulaim to prepare a meal specially for Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) . He then sent me to him (to the Holy Prophet); the rest of the hadith is the same (but there is a slight variation of wording): "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) placed his hand and mentioned the name of Allah upon that, and then said: Admit ten men. He (Abu Talha) admitted them and they got in. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Eat while mentioning the name of Allah upon it (the meal). They ate until eighty persons had taken the food. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had his meal and so the members of the household, and still they left some food."
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَحْيَي ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، بِهَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ فِي طَعَامِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَقَامَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَلَى الْبَابِ حَتَّى أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْءٌ يَسِيرٌ ، قَالَ : " هَلُمَّهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيَجْعَلُ فِيهِ الْبَرَكَةَ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this incident pertaining to the feast given by Abu Talha to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) with the addition of these words: "Abu Talha stood at the door (to welcome the honourable guest) until Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came there. He (Abu Talha) said to him: Allah's Messenger, the thing (we intend to offer you as a meal) is small in quantity. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Bring that, for Allah will soon bless it (and increase it).
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : ثُمَّ أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَكَلَ أَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ وَأَفْضَلُوا مَا أَبْلَغُوا جِيرَانَهُمْ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this hadith (with a slight variation of wording) Then AlIah's Messenger (ﷺ) ate and the people of his house also ate, but (still) there was left a surplus, which they sent to their neighbours.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُضْطَجِعًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَتَقَلَّبُ ظَهْرًا لِبَطْنٍ ، فَأَتَى أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُضْطَجِعًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَتَقَلَّبُ ظَهْرًا لِبَطْنٍ وَأَظُنُّهُ جَائِعًا ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : ثُمَّ أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ وَفَضَلَتْ فَضْلَةٌ فَأَهْدَيْنَاهُ لِجِيرَانِنَا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) lying down upon his belly in the mosque. He came to Umm Sulaim and said: I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) lying down upon the belly in the mosque, and I think he is hungry. The rest of the hadith is the same (but with the addition of these words) that Allah's messenger (ﷺ) ate (the food) and so did Abu Talha, Umm Sulaim and Anas bin Malik (RA), but there was left something which we presented to our neighbours.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي التُّجِيبِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ ، أَنَّ يَعْقُوبَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا فَوَجَدْتُهُ جَالِسًا مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ وَقَدْ عَصَّبَ بَطْنَهُ بِعِصَابَةٍ ، قَالَ أُسَامَةُ : وَأَنَا أَشُكُّ عَلَى حَجَرٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : لِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ لِمَ عَصَّبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَطْنَهُ ؟ ، فَقَالُوا : مِنَ الْجُوعِ ، فَذَهَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ وَهُوَ زَوْجُ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ بِنْتِ مِلْحَانَ ، فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَصَّبَ بَطْنَهُ بِعِصَابَةٍ ، فَسَأَلْتُ بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِهِ ، فَقَالُوا : مِنَ الْجُوعِ ، فَدَخَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَلَى أُمِّي ، فَقَالَ : هَلْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ عِنْدِي كِسَرٌ مِنْ خُبْزٍ وَتَمَرَاتٌ ، فَإِنْ جَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحْدَهُ أَشْبَعْنَاهُ ، وَإِنْ جَاءَ آخَرُ مَعَهُ ، قَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ سَائِرَ الْحَدِيثِ بِقِصَّتِهِ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I visited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) one day and found him sitting in the company of his Companions and talking to them, and he had tied his belly with a bandage. Usama said: I am in doubt whether there was stone on that (his belly) or not. I asked some of his Companions why Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had bandaged his belly. They said: (He has done that to relieve) his hunger. I went to Abu Talha, the husband of Umm Sulaim, the daughter of Milhan, and said to him: Father, I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having bandaged his belly. I asked some of his Companions (the reason of it) and they said that it was due to hunger. Abu Talha came to my mother and said: Is there anything? She said: Yes, I have some pieces of bread with me and some dates. If Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) comes to us alone we can feed him to his fill, but if someone comes along with him this would be insufficient for them. The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِر ِ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَعَامِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this hadith pertaining to the entertainment of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) by Abu Talha through another chain of transmitters.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِيمَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ ، قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الطَّعَامِ ، فَقَرَّبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُبْزًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ وَمَرَقًا فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : " فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ حَوَالَيِ الصَّحْفَةِ ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ مُنْذُ يَوْمَئِذٍ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: A tailor invited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to a meal which he had prepared. Anas bin Malik (RA) said: I went along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to that feast. He presented to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) barley bread and soup containing pumpkin, and sliced pieces of meat. Anas said: I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) going after the pumpkin round the dish, so I have always liked the pumpkin since that day.
Hadith 2041
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ ، " فَجِيءَ بِمَرَقَةٍ فِيهَا دُبَّاءٌ ، فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الدُّبَّاءِ وَيُعْجِبُهُ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ جَعَلْتُ أُلْقِيهِ إِلَيْهِ وَلَا أَطْعَمُهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَمَا زِلْتُ بَعْدُ يُعْجِبُنِي الدُّبَّاءُ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that a person invited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to a meal. I also went along with him. He brought soup containing pumpkin. Allah's 'messenger (ﷺ) ate that pumpkin with relish. He (Anas) said: When I saw that I began to place it before him, and did not eat it (myself). Anas said: It was since then that pumpkin was always my favourite (food).
Hadith 2041
وحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ وَعَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَزَادَ ، قَالَ ثَابِتٌ : فَسَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، يَقُولُ : فَمَا صُنِعَ لِي طَعَامٌ بَعْدُ أَقْدِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يُصْنَعَ فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ إِلَّا صُنِعَ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) rdported that a tailor invited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to a feast. There has been an addition to this that Thabit said: I heard Anas saying that any meal that was prepared for me after that I tried that it should contain pumpkin.
Hadith 2044
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ حَفْصٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُقْعِيًا يَأْكُلُ تَمْرًا " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I saw Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) squatting and eating dates.
Hadith 2044
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَمْرٍ ، فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْسِمُهُ وَهُوَ مُحْتَفِزٌ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَكْلًا ذَرِيعًا " ، وَفِي رِوَايَةِ زُهَيْرٍ أَكْلًا حَثِيثًا .
Anas reported that there were brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) dates. He distributed them in the state that he had been sitting upright (in an easy posture) and he had also been eating them a (bit) quickly.
Hadith 2072
وحَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي كَامِلٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قال : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بِجُبَّةِ سُنْدُسٍ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : بَعَثْتَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِيهَا مَا قُلْتَ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا ، وَإِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَنْتَفِعَ بِثَمَنِهَا " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (may Peace be upon him) sent a silk gown to 'Umar, whereupon 'Umar said: You sent it to me whereas you said what you had to, say (i. e. it is forbidden for men). Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: I did not send it to you so that you might wear it, but I sent it to you so that you might derive benefit from its price.
Hadith 2073
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ لَبِسَ الْحَرِيرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَلْبَسْهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: He who wore silk in this world would not wear it in the Hereafter.
Hadith 2076
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ أَنْبَأَهُمْ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَخَّصَ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، وَالزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّام ِ فِي الْقُمُصِ الْحَرِيرِ فِي السَّفَرِ مِنْ حِكَّةٍ كَانَتْ بِهِمَا أَوْ وَجَعٍ كَانَ بِهِمَا " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported to them (his companions) that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had granted concession to Abdul Rahman bin Auf and Zubair bin Awam for the wearing of a silk shirt during the journey and because of itch which they both had or any other disease from which both of them had been suffering.
Hadith 2076
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : " رَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ رُخِّصَ لِلزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ فِي لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ لِحِكَّةٍ كَانَتْ بِهِمَا " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) granted concession, or Zubair bin Awwam and 'Abd Al-Rahman bin Auf were granted concession, for the wearing of silk because of the itch that they both had.
Hadith 2076
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، أَنَّ أَنَسًا أَخْبَرَهُ ، " أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ ، وَالزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ شَكَوَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْقَمْلَ ، فَرَخَّصَ لَهُمَا فِي قُمُصِ الْحَرِيرِ فِي غَزَاةٍ لَهُمَا " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that 'Abdul Rahman bin Auf and Zu'bair. bin 'Awwam complained to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about lice; he granted them concession to wear shirts of silk.
Hadith 2079
حَدَّثَنَا هَدَّابُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، قال : قُلْنَا لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَيُّ اللِّبَاسِ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ أَوْ أَعْجَبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَال : الْحِبَرَةُ " .
Qatada said: We asked Anas bin Malik (RA) which garment did Allah's Messenger may peace be upon him) love or like (to wear). He said: The mantle of Yemen.
Hadith 2079
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : " كَانَ أَحَبَّ الثِّيَابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحِبَرَةُ " .
Anas reported that the garment most liked by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was the mantle of Yemen.
Hadith 2092
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَخَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْعَتَكِيُّ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَقَالَ : " لِلنَّاسِ إِنِّي اتَّخَذْتُ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، وَنَقَشْتُ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَلَا يَنْقُشْ أَحَدٌ عَلَى نَقْشِهِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had made for him a silver ring. and got engraved on it (Mubamrnad, Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) and said to the people I have got made a ring of silver and engraved in it (these words) (Mubamrnad, Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) . So none should engrave these (words) like this engravement.
Hadith 2092
وحدثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنُونَ ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِي الْحَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ .
This hadith nas been reported on the authority of Anas through another chain of transmitters but there is no mention of the words (Mubamrnad, Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) in it.
Hadith 2092
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قال : لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الرُّومِ ، قَالَ : قَالُوا : إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَابًا إِلَّا مَخْتُومًا ، قَالَ : فَاتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَقْشُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) decided to write letters to the Byzantine (Emperor) they (his Companions) told him that they would not read a letter unless it is sealed. (Then) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a silver ring made (for himealf), (its shape is too vivid in my mind) as if I see its brightness in the band of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and its engravement was (Muhammad, Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) .
Hadith 2092
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الْعَجَمِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ الْعَجَمَ لَا يَقْبَلُونَ إِلَّا كِتَابًا عَلَيْهِ خَاتَمٌ ، فَاصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، قَالَ : كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِهِ " .
Anas reported that when Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) decided to write (letters) to non-Arabs (i. e. Persian and Byzantine Emperors) it was said to him that the non-Arabs would not accept a letter but that having a seal over it; so he (the Holy Prophet) got a silver ring made. He (Anas) said: I perceive as if I am looking at its brightness in his hand.
Hadith 2092
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ خَالِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَر وَالنَّجَاشِيِّ ، فَقِيلَ : إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَقْبَلُونَ كِتَابًا إِلَّا بِخَاتَمٍ ، فَصَاغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا حَلْقَتُهُ فِضَّةً ، وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " .
Anas reported that when Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) decided to write to the Kisri (the King of Persia), Caesar (Emperor of Rome), and the Negus (the Emperor of Abyssinia), it was said to him that they would not accept the letter without the seal over it; so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) got a seal made, the ring of which was made of silver and there was engraved on it. (Muhammad. the Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) .
Hadith 2093
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عِمْرَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّهُ أَبْصَرَ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا ، قَالَ : " فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ الْخَوَاتِمَ مِنْ وَرِقٍ فَلَبِسُوهُ ، فَطَرَحَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمَهُ فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِمَهُمْ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I saw one day on the finger of Allah's Messenger (may peace be Upon him) a silver ring; so the people also got silver rings made and wore them Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) discarded his ring, and the people also discarded their rings.
Hadith 2093
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ : " رَأَى فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا ثُمَّ إِنَّ النَّاسَ اضْطَرَبُوا الْخَوَاتِمَ مِنْ وَرِقٍ فَلَبِسُوهَا ، فَطَرَحَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمَهُ ، فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِمَهُمْ " ,
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that one day he saw on the finger of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) a silver ring, and the people also made silver rings and put them on. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) threw his ring away, and so the people also threw away their rings.
Hadith 2094
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قال : " كَانَ خَاتَمُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ وَرِقٍ وَكَانَ فَصُّهُ حَبَشِيًّا " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that the ring of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was made of silver and it had an Abyssinian stone in it.
Hadith 2094
وحَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَبَّادُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي َهُوَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ثم الزرقي ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَنَّ ّرَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَبِسَ خَاتَمَ فِضَّةٍ فِي يَمِينِهِ فِيهِ فَصٌّ حَبَشِيٌّ ، كَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) wore a silver ring on his right hand which had an Abyssinian stone in it, and he kept its stone towards the palm.
Hadith 2095
وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : " كَانَ خَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي هَذِهِ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى الْخِنْصِرِ مِنْ يَدِهِ الْيُسْرَى " .
Anas reported that the ring of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) was on this, and he pointed toward the little finger of his left hand.
Hadith 2101
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ التَّزَعْفُرِ " ، قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ : قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : يَعْنِي لِلرِّجَالِ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade dyeing (one's cloth or hair) in saffron. Hammad said that it pertains to men only.
Hadith 2101
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَتَزَعْفَرَ الرَّجُلُ " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade that a person should (wear) clothes dyed in saffron.
Hadith 2119
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : لَمَّا وَلَدَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ، قَالَتْ لِي : يَا أَنَسُ ، انْظُرْ هَذَا الْغُلَامَ فَلَا يُصِيبَنَّ شَيْئًا حَتَّى تَغْدُوَ بِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحَنِّكُهُ ، قَالَ : فَغَدَوْتُ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ فِي الْحَائِطِ وَعَلَيْهِ خَمِيصَةٌ جَوْنِيَةٌ ، وَهُوَ يَسِمُ الظَّهْرَ الَّذِي قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْفَتْحِ " .
Anas reported that Umm Sulaim gave birth to a child. She said to him: Anas, see that nothing is given to this child until he is brought to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) in the morning, so that he should chew some dates and touch his palate with it. I went to him in the morning and he was in the garden at that time having the mantle of Jauniyya over him and he was busy in cauterising (the camels) which had been brought to him (as spoils of war) in victory (over the enemy).
Hadith 2119
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يُحَدِّثُ : أَنَّ أُمَّهُ حِينَ وَلَدَتِ انْطَلَقُوا بِالصَّبِيِّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحَنِّكُهُ ، قَالَ : فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مِرْبَدٍ يَسِمُ غَنَمًا " ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَأَكْثَرُ عِلْمِي أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي آذَانِهَا .
Anas reported that when his mother gave birth to a child they brought that child to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) so that he might chew some dates and touch his palate with them and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) was at that time in the fold busy in cauterising the animals Shu'bah said: So far as I know (he was cauterising) their ears.
Hadith 2119
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، يقول : " دَخَلْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِرْبَدًا وَهُوَ يَسِمُ غَنَمًا ، قَالَ : أَحْسِبُهُ ، قَالَ فِي آذَانِهَا " .
Anas reported: We went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as he was in the fold and he was cauterising the animals of the flock and I think (he was cauterising them) on their ears.
Hadith 2119
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قال : " رَأَيْتُ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمِيسَمَ ، وَهُوَ يَسِمُ إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I saw in the hand of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) an instrument for cauterisation and he was cauterising the caracia collected as Zakat.
Hadith 2131
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، قَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ : أَخْبَرَنَا وقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، قالا : حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ يَعْنِيَانِ الْفَزَارِيَّ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا بِالْبَقِيعِ : يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلَانًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي " .
Anas reported that person at Baqi' called another person as "Abu'l- Qasim," and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) turned towards him. He (the person who had uttered these words) said: Messenger of Allah, I did not mean you, but I called such and such (person), whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: You may call yourself by my name, but not by my kunya.
Hadith 2144
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قال : ذَهَبْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ وُلِدَ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ يَهْنَأُ بَعِيرًا لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ مَعَكَ تَمْرٌ ؟ " ، فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَنَاوَلْتُهُ تَمَرَاتٍ ، فَأَلْقَاهُنَّ فِي فِيهِ ، فَلَاكَهُنَّ ثُمَّ فَغَرَ فَا الصَّبِيِّ ، فَمَجَّهُ فِي فِيهِ ، فَجَعَلَ الصَّبِيُّ يَتَلَمَّظُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حُبُّ الْأَنْصَارِ التَّمْرَ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I took 'Abdullah bin Abi Talha Ansari to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) at the time of his birth. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was at that time wearing a woollen cloak and besmearing the camels with tar. He said: Have you got with you the dates? I said: Yes. He took hold of the dates and put them in his mouth and softened them, then opened the mouth of the infant and put that in it and the child began to lick it. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: The Ansar have a liking for the dates, and he (the Holy Prophet) gave him the name of 'Abdullah.
Hadith 2144
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قال : كَانَ ابْنٌ لِأَبِي طَلْحَةَ يَشْتَكِي ، فَخَرَجَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقُبِضَ الصَّبِيُّ ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ ، قَالَ : مَا فَعَلَ ابْنِي ؟ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ : هُوَ أَسْكَنُ مِمَّا كَانَ ، فَقَرَّبَتْ إِلَيْهِ الْعَشَاءَ ، فَتَعَشَّى ثُمَّ أَصَابَ مِنْهَا ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ ، قَالَتْ : وَارُوا الصَّبِيَّ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَعْرَسْتُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمَا " ، فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا ، فَقَالَ لِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : احْمِلْهُ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَتَى بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَبَعَثَتْ مَعَهُ بِتَمَرَاتٍ ، فَأَخَذَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَمَعَهُ شَيْءٌ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : نَعَمْ تَمَرَاتٌ ، فَأَخَذَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَضَغَهَا ثُمَّ أَخَذَهَا مِنْ فِيهِ ، فَجَعَلَهَا فِي فِي الصَّبِيِّ ثُمَّ حَنَّكَهُ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that the son of Abu Talha had been ailing. Abu Talha set out (on a journey) and his son breathed his last (in his absence). When Abu Talha came back, he said (to his wife): What about my child? Umm Sulaim (the wife of Abu Talha) said: He is now in a more comfortable state than before. She served him the evening meal and he took it. He then came to her (and had sexual intercourse with her) and when it was all over she said: Make arrangements for the burial of the child. When it was morning. Abu Talha came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and informed him, whereupon he said: Did you spend the night with her. He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) then said: O Allah, bless both of them (and as a result of blessing) she gave birth to a child. Abu Talha said to me (Anas bin Malik (RA)) to take the child, (so I took him) and came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . She (Umm Sulaim) also had sent some dates (along with the child). Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) took him (the child) (in his lap) and said: Is there anything with you (for Tahnik). They (the Companions) said: Yes. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) took hold of them (dates and chewed them). He then put them (the chewed dates) in the mouth of the child and then rubbed his palate and gave him the name of 'Abdullah.
