Hadith 1962
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْغُبَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، وَهِشَامٌ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ، فَأَمَرَ مَنْ كَانَ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَنْ يُعِيدَ ذِبْحًا ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ ،
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) offered the 'Id prayer and then delivered the sermon giving the command: He who slaughtered the animal before prayer should slaughter (another animal as a sacrifice). The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 1962
وحَدَّثَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَي الْحَسَّانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ وَرْدَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ أَضْحًى ، قَالَ : فَوَجَدَ رِيحَ لَحْمٍ ، فَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَذْبَحُوا ، قَالَ : مَنْ كَانَ ضَحَّى فَلْيُعِدْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِهِمَا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) addressed us on the day of 'Id al-Adha. He smelt the odour of flesh and he prohibited thern from slaughtering (the animals before the 'Id prayer), saying: He who slaughtered the animals (before the 'Id prayer) should do that again (as it is not valid as a sacrifice).
Hadith 1966
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " ضَحَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ ذَبَحَهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَسَمَّى وَكَبَّرَ وَوَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sacrificed with his own hands two horned rams which were white with black markings reciting the name of Allah and glorifying Him (saying Allah-o-Akbar). He placed his foot on their sides (while sacrificing).
Hadith 1966
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ ، قَالَ : وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَذْبَحُهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَرَأَيْتُهُ وَاضِعًا قَدَمَهُ عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا ، قَالَ : وَسَمَّى وَكَبَّرَ " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sacrificed two horned rams of white colour with black markings over them. He also stated: I saw him sacrificing them with his own hand and saw him placing his foot on their sides, and recited the name of Allah and Glorified Him.
Hadith 1966
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي قَتَادَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، يَقُولُ : ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : آنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ أَنَسٍ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ .
Shu'bah reported: Qatada informed me that he had heard Anas saying that Allah's Messenger (may peace be npon him) sacrificed (the horned rams) and like that. I said: Did you (Qatada) hear from Anas? He said. Yes.
Hadith 1966
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : وَيَقُولُ : بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Anas with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 1980
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَتَكِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ سَاقِيَ الْقَوْمِ يَوْمَ حُرِّمَتِ الْخَمْرُ فِي بَيْتِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، وَمَا شَرَابُهُمْ إِلَّا الْفَضِيخُ الْبُسْرُ وَالتَّمْرُ ، فَإِذَا مُنَادٍ يُنَادِي ، فَقَالَ : اخْرُجْ فَانْظُرْ ، فَخَرَجْتُ فَإِذَا مُنَادٍ يُنَادِي أَلَا إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ قَدْ حُرِّمَتْ ، قَالَ : فَجَرَتْ فِي سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَقَالَ لِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : اخْرُجْ فَاهْرِقْهَا فَهَرَقْتُهَا ، فَقَالُوا أَوَ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : قُتِلَ فُلَانٌ قُتِلَ فُلَانٌ وَهِيَ فِي بُطُونِهِمْ " ، قَالَ : فَلَا أَدْرِي هُوَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا إِذَا مَا اتَّقَوْا وَآمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سورة المائدة آية 93 .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I was the cup-bearer of some people in the house of Abu Talha on the day when liquor was forbidden. Their liquor had been prepared from dry dates or fresh dates when the announcer made the announcement. He (Abu Talha) said to me: Go out and find out (what the announcement is). I got out (and found) an announcer making this announcement: Behold, liquor has been declared unlawful. He said: The liquor (was spilt and) flawed in the lanes of Madinah. Abu Talha said to me: Go out and spill it, and I spilt it. They said or some of them said: Such and such were killed, such and such were killed for (the wine) had been in their stomachs. He (the narrator) said. I do not know whether it is the narration transmitted by Anas, (or by someone else). Then Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, revealed: "There shall be no sin (imputed) unto those who have believed and done good works for what they may have eaten as long as they fear (Allah) and believe and do good works" (v. 93).
Hadith 1980
وحَدَّثَنَا وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلُوا أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ عَنِ الْفَضِيخِ ، فَقَالَ : مَا كَانَتْ لَنَا خَمْرٌ غَيْرَ فَضِيخِكُمْ هَذَا الَّذِي تُسَمُّونَهُ الْفَضِيخَ إِنِّي لَقَائِمٌ أَسْقِيهَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ وَأَبَا أَيُّوبَ ، وَرِجَالًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَيْتِنَا إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ بَلَغَكُمُ الْخَبَرُ ؟ قُلْنَا : لَا قَالَ : فَإِنَّ الْخَمْرَ قَدْ حُرِّمَتْ ، فَقَالَ يَا أَنَسُ : أَرِقْ هَذِهِ الْقِلَالَ ، قَالَ : فَمَا رَاجَعُوهَا وَلَا سَأَلُوا عَنْهَا بَعْدَ خَبَرِ الرَّجُلِ " .
'Abdul Aziz bin Suhaib (RA) reported: They (some persons) asked Anas bin Malik (RA), about Fadikh (that is, a wine prepared from fresh dates), whereupon he said: There was no liquor with us except this Fadikih of yours. It was only this Fadikh that I had been serving to Abu Talha and Abu Ayyub and some persons from amongst the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in our house. When a person came and said: Has the news reached you? We said, No. He said: Verily liquor has been declared forbidden. Thereupon, Abd Talha said: Anas, spill these large pitchers. He (the narrator) said: They then never reverted to it, nor even asked about this after the announcement by that person.
Hadith 1980
وحَدَّثَنَا وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَقَائِمٌ عَلَى الْحَيِّ عَلَى عُمُومَتِي أَسْقِيهِمْ مِنْ فَضِيخٍ لَهُمْ وَأَنَا أَصْغَرُهُمْ سِنًّا ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهَا قَدْ حُرِّمَتِ الْخَمْرُ ، فَقَالُوا : اكْفِئْهَا يَا أَنَسُ فَكَفَأْتُهَا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَنَسٍ : مَا هُوَ قَالَ بُسْرٌ وَرُطَبٌ ؟ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَنَسٍ : كَانَتْ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : وَحَدَّثَنِي ، رَجُلٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I was standing amongst the uncles of my tribe serving them Fadikh while I was the youngest of them, when a person came and said: Verily the use of liqour has been prohibited. They said: Anas, spill it away. So I spilt it. He (one of the narrators Sulaiman Taimi) said that he asked Anas what that was (the Fadikh). He said: It had been prepared from unripe and ripe dates. Abu Bakr (RA) bin Anas said: It was their liquor in those days. Sulaiman said: A person narrated it to me from Anas bin Malik (RA) that he had said so.
Hadith 1980
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسٌ: كُنْتُ قَائِمًا عَلَى الْحَيِّ أَسْقِيهِمْ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَنَسٍ : كَانَ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَأَنَسٌ شَاهِدٌ فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْ أَنَسٌ ذَاكَ ، وقَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ مَنْ كَانَ مَعِي أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسًا ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ .
Anas reported: I was standing amongst the members of my (tribe) and serving them liquor. The rest of the hadith is the same, but with this variation that Abu Bakr (RA) bin Anas said: It was their liquor in those days (prepared from dates), and Anas was present there and he did not deny this (fact).
Hadith 1980
وحَدَّثَنَا وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَسْقِي أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، وَأَبَا دُجَانَةَ ، وَمُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا دَاخِلٌ ، فَقَالَ : حَدَثَ خَبَرٌ نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُ الْخَمْرِ ، فَأَكْفَأْنَاهَا يَوْمَئِذٍ وَإِنَّهَا لَخَلِيطُ الْبُسْرِ وَالتَّمْرِ ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ : وَقَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : " لَقَدْ حُرِّمَتِ الْخَمْرُ وَكَانَتْ عَامَّةُ خُمُورِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَلِيطَ الْبُسْرِ وَالتَّمْرِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported I was serving wine to Abu Talha and Abu Dujana and Mu'adh bin jabal admidst a group of Ansar when a visitor came to us and said: There is fresh news; the (verses) concerning the prohibition of liquor have been revealed. So we spilt it on that day; and it was a mixture of dry dates and fresh dates. Anas bin Malik (RA) said: While Khamr was declared unlawful, the common liquor of theirs was then a mixture of dry dates and fresh dates.
Hadith 1980
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّار ٍ ، قَالُوا : أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي لَأَسْقِي أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، وَأَبَا دُجَانَةَ ، وَسُهَيْلَ بْنَ بَيْضَاء مِنْ مَزَادَةٍ فِيهَا خَلِيطُ بُسْرٍ وَتَمْرٍ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ سَعِيدٍ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) said: I was serving wine to Abu Talha, Abu Dujana, and Suhail bin Baida' from a waterskin which contained the mixture of unripe dates and fresh dates. The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 1981
وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَرْحٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ بْنَ دِعَامَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى أَنْ يُخْلَطَ التَّمْرُ وَالزَّهْوُ ثُمَّ يُشْرَبَ ، وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ عَامَّةَ خُمُورِهِمْ يَوْمَ حُرِّمَتِ الْخَمْرُ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) is reported to have said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had forbidden to mixture fresh dates and unripe dates and then drinking (the wine prepared out of it), and that was their common intoxicant when liquor was prohibited.
Hadith 1980
وحَدَّثَنِي وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَسْقِي أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ ، وَأَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، وَأُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ شَرَابًا مِنْ فَضِيخٍ وَتَمْرٍ فَأَتَاهُمْ آتٍ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ قَدْ حُرِّمَتْ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أَنَسُ : قُمْ إِلَى هَذِهِ الْجَرَّةِ فَاكْسِرْهَا ، فَقُمْتُ إِلَى مِهْرَاسٍ لَنَا فَضَرَبْتُهَا بِأَسْفَلِهِ حَتَّى تَكَسَّرَتْ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I was serving drink to Abu 'Ubaida bin jarrah, Abu Talha and Ubayy bin Ka'b prepared from unripe dates and fresh dates when a visitor came and he said: Verily liquor has been prohibited. Thereupon, Abu Talha said: Anas, stand up and break this pitcher. I stood up and (took hold) of a pointed stone and struck the pitcher with its lower part until it broke into pieces.
Hadith 1982
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي الْحَنَفِيَّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : " لَقَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ فِيهَا الْخَمْرَ ، وَمَا بِالْمَدِينَةِ شَرَابٌ يُشْرَبُ إِلَّا مِنْ تَمْرٍ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Allah revealed the verse in which Allah prohibited the use of liquor. In those days no other liquor was drunk but that prepared from dates.
Hadith 1983
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيي ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ السُّدِّيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَي بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ تُتَّخَذُ خَلًّا ، فَقَالَ : لَا " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about the use of Khamr from which vinegar is prepared. He said: No (it is prohibited).
Hadith 1992
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ أَنْ يُنْبَذَ فِيهِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade the preparation of Nabidh in gourd or varnished jar.
Hadith 1992
وحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ فِيهِ " .
The above hadith is narrated through a different chain with slight variation in wording.
Hadith 2008
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " لَقَدْ سَقَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِقَدَحِي هَذَا الشَّرَابَ كُلَّهُ الْعَسَلَ وَالنَّبِيذَ وَالْمَاءَ وَاللَّبَنَ " .
Anas reported: I served drink to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in this cup of mine: honey, Nabidh, water and milk.
Hadith 2024
حَدَّثَنَا هَدَّابُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " زَجَرَ عَنِ الشُّرْبِ قَائِمًا " .
Anas reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) disapproved the drinking of water while standing.
Hadith 2024
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ : " نَهَى أَنْ يَشْرَبَ الرَّجُلُ قَائِمًا " ، قَالَ : قَتَادَةُ ، فَقُلْنَا : فَالْأَكْلُ ، فَقَالَ : " ذَاكَ أَشَرُّ أَوْ أَخْبَثُ " .
Anas reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade that a person should drink while standing. Qatada reported: We said to him: What about eating? Thereupon he (Anas) said: That is even worse and more detestable (abominable).
Hadith 2024
وحَدَّثَنَاه قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَ قَتَادَةَ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of Anas with a different chain of transmitters, but no mention is made of the words of Qatada.
Hadith 2028
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ عَزْرَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ ّرَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ ثَلَاثًا " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to breathe three times in the course of a drink (i. e. he drank in three gulps).
Hadith 2028
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِصَامٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الشَّرَابِ ثَلَاثًا ، وَيَقُولُ : إِنَّهُ أَرْوَى وَأَبْرَأُ وَأَمْرَأُ " ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَأَنَا أَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الشَّرَابِ ثَلَاثًا .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) breathed three times (outside the vessel) in the course of a drink and said: It is more thirst-quenching, healthier and more wholesome. Anas said: So I also breathe three times in the course of a drink.
Hadith 2028
وحَدَّثَنَاه قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِصَامٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ ، وَقَالَ : فِي الْإِنَاءِ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of Anas with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2029
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِلَبَنٍ قَدْ شِيبَ بِمَاءٍ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ ، وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ أَعْطَى الْأَعْرَابِيَّ ، وَقَالَ : الْأَيْمَنَ فَالْأَيْمَنَ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that there was brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) a cup of milk mixed with water, while there was on his right a desert Arab and on his left Abu Bakr. He (the Holy Prophet) drank; he then gave it to the desert Arab and said: (Give to one) who is on the right, then again who is on the right.
Hadith 2029
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِزُهَيْرٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عَشْرٍ ، وَمَاتَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عِشْرِينَ وَكُنَّ أُمَّهَاتِي يَحْثُثْنَنِي عَلَى خِدْمَتِهِ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا دَارَنَا ، فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ مِنْ شَاةٍ دَاجِنٍ وَشِيبَ لَهُ مِنْ بِئْرٍ فِي الدَّارِ ، " فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَعْطِ أَبَا بَكْر ٍ ، فَأَعْطَاهُ أَعْرَابِيًّا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْأَيْمَنَ فَالْأَيْمَنَ " .
Anas reported: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) came to Madinah when I was ten years old and he died when I was twenty years old. My mother exhorted me to serve him. He (the Holy Prophet) came to our house, and we ruined a flabby goat for him and mixed it (the milk) with water from the well of the house. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) drank that. Umar and Abu Bakr (RA) on his left side said to him: Allah's Messenger, give it to Abu Bakr, but he (the Holy Prophet) gave it to the desert Arab who was on his right. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: He who is on the right, then he who is on the right.
Hadith 2034
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا لَعِقَ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلَاثَ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ : " إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ ، فَلْيُمِطْ عَنْهَا الْأَذَى وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَسْلُتَ الْقَصْعَةَ " ، قَالَ : " فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِكُمُ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Anas reported that when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ate food he licked his three fingers, and he said: When any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove anything filthy from it and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan. He also commanded us that we should wipe the dish saying: You do not know in what portion of your food the blessing lies.
Hadith 2037
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، " أَنَّ جَارًا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَارِسِيًّا كَانَ طَيِّبَ الْمَرَقِ ، فَصَنَعَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ يَدْعُوهُ ، فَقَالَ : وَهَذِهِ لِعَائِشَةَ ، فَقَالَ : لَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا ، فَعَادَ يَدْعُوهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهَذِهِ قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا ، ثُمَّ عَادَ يَدْعُوهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهَذِهِ قَالَ : نَعَمْ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ ، فَقَامَا يَتَدَافَعَانِ حَتَّى أَتَيَا مَنْزِلَهُ " .
Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a neighbour who was Persian (by descent), and he was expert in the preparation of soup. He prepared (soup) for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and then came to him to invite him (to that feast). He (Allah's Messenger) said: Here is 'A'isha also (and you should also invite her to the food). He said: No. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) also said: No (then I cannot join the feast). He returned inviting him, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: She is also there (i. e. 'A'isha should also be invited). He said: No. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) also said: No (and declined his offer). He returned again to invite him and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) again said: She is also there. He (the host) said: "Yes" for the third time. Then he accepted his invitation, and both of them set out until they came to his house.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ لِأُمِّ سُلَيْم : قَدْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ ثَوْبِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ ، فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلِطَعَامٍ ؟ " ، فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ : " قُومُوا " ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ : قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ ، فَقَالَتْ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلُمِّي مَا عِنْدَكِ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ " ، فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا ، فَأَدَمَتْهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ حَتَّى أَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ رَجُلًا أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Abu Talha said to Umm Sulaim: I felt some feebleness in the voice of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and perceived that it was due to hunger; so have you anything with you? She said: Yes. She brought out barley loaves, then took out a head-covering of hers, in a part of which she wrapped those loaves and then put them beneath my mantle and covered me with a part of it. She then sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . I set forth and found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sitting in the mosque in the company of some persons. I stood near them, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Has Abu Talha sent you? I said, Yes. He said: Is it for a feast? I said. Yes. Thereupon Allah's messenger (ﷺ) said to those who were with him to get up. He went forth and so I did before them, until I came to Abu Talha and informed him. Abu Talba said: Umm Sulaim, here comes Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) along with people and we do not have enough (food) to feed them. She said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Abu Talha went out (to receive him) until he met Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) came forward along with him until they both (Allah's Messenger, along with Abu Talha) came in. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Umm Sulaim, bring forth that which you have with you. She brought the bread. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) commanded that the bread be broken into small pieces, and when Umm Sulaim had squeezed a small waterskin and put seasoning on it, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited something regarding it what Allah wished him to say. He then said: Allow ten (guests to come in and have their meals). He permitted them; they ate until they had their fill. They then went out. He (the Holy Prophet) again said: Permit ten (more) and he (the host gave permission to them. They ate until they had enough. Then they went out. he again said: Permit ten (more) until all the people had eaten to their fill, and they were seventy or eighty persons.
Hadith 2040
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَدْعُوَهُ وَقَدْ جَعَلَ طَعَامًا ، قَالَ : فَأَقْبَلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ النَّاسِ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَجِبْ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، فَقَالَ لِلنَّاسِ : " قُومُوا " ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا صَنَعْتُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَالَ : فَمَسَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَدَعَا فِيهَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَدْخِلْ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي عَشَرَةً " ، وَقَالَ : " كُلُوا وَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ شَيْئًا مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ " فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا فَخَرَجُوا ، فَقَالَ : " أَدْخِلْ عَشَرَةً " ، فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا فَمَا زَالَ يُدْخِلُ عَشَرَةً وَيُخْرِجُ عَشَرَةً حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا دَخَلَ ، فَأَكَلَ حَتَّى شَبِعَ ثُمَّ هَيَّأَهَا ، فَإِذَا هِيَ مِثْلُهَا حِينَ أَكَلُوا مِنْهَا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in order to invite him (for meal). She had prepared a meal. So I came and found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) along with some people. He looked at me, and I felt shy and said: Accept the invitation of Abu Talha. He (the Holy Prophet) asked the people to get up. Thereupon Abu Talha said: Allah's Messenger, I have prepared something for you. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) touched (the food) and invoked blessings upon it, and then said: Let ten persons from my Companions enter (the house). He then said: Eat, and (in the meanwhile) brought out something from between his fingers for them. They then began to eat until they had their fill and then went out. He then asked ten more men (to have the meal) and they ate to their fill, and the ten persons went on getting in (and eating the food) and then getting out until none was left amongst them who had not got in and eaten to his fill. He then collected (the remaining part of the food) and it (the quantity of the food) was the same (as it had been prior to the serving of guests).
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَي الْأُمَوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ نُمَيْر ٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ : " ثُمَّ أَخَذَ مَا بَقِيَ فَجَمَعَهُ ثُمَّ دَعَا فِيهِ بِالْبَرَكَةِ " ، قَالَ : فَعَادَ كَمَا كَانَ ، فَقَالَ دُونَكُمْ هَذَا .
Anas b Malik reported: Abu Talha sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ; the rest of the hadith is the same, but 'there is a slight variation of wording that he said at the end (The Holy Prophet) took what was left (of the food) and collected it and then invoked blessings upon it and it returned to its original state. He (the Holy Prophet) then said: Take this.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّقِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَمَرَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ أَنْ تَصْنَعَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا لِنَفْسِهِ خَاصَّةً ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْهِ ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَوَضَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ وَسَمَّى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَدَخَلُوا ، فَقَالَ : " كُلُوا وَسَمُّوا اللَّهَ " ، فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِثَمَانِينَ رَجُلًا ، ثُمَّ أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، وَأَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ وَتَرَكُوا سُؤْرًا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha ordered Umm Sulaim to prepare a meal specially for Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) . He then sent me to him (to the Holy Prophet); the rest of the hadith is the same (but there is a slight variation of wording): "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) placed his hand and mentioned the name of Allah upon that, and then said: Admit ten men. He (Abu Talha) admitted them and they got in. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Eat while mentioning the name of Allah upon it (the meal). They ate until eighty persons had taken the food. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) had his meal and so the members of the household, and still they left some food."
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَحْيَي ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، بِهَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ فِي طَعَامِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَقَامَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَلَى الْبَابِ حَتَّى أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْءٌ يَسِيرٌ ، قَالَ : " هَلُمَّهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيَجْعَلُ فِيهِ الْبَرَكَةَ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this incident pertaining to the feast given by Abu Talha to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) with the addition of these words: "Abu Talha stood at the door (to welcome the honourable guest) until Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came there. He (Abu Talha) said to him: Allah's Messenger, the thing (we intend to offer you as a meal) is small in quantity. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Bring that, for Allah will soon bless it (and increase it).
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : ثُمَّ أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَكَلَ أَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ وَأَفْضَلُوا مَا أَبْلَغُوا جِيرَانَهُمْ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this hadith (with a slight variation of wording) Then AlIah's Messenger (ﷺ) ate and the people of his house also ate, but (still) there was left a surplus, which they sent to their neighbours.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُضْطَجِعًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَتَقَلَّبُ ظَهْرًا لِبَطْنٍ ، فَأَتَى أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُضْطَجِعًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَتَقَلَّبُ ظَهْرًا لِبَطْنٍ وَأَظُنُّهُ جَائِعًا ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : ثُمَّ أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ وَفَضَلَتْ فَضْلَةٌ فَأَهْدَيْنَاهُ لِجِيرَانِنَا .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: Abu Talha saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) lying down upon his belly in the mosque. He came to Umm Sulaim and said: I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) lying down upon the belly in the mosque, and I think he is hungry. The rest of the hadith is the same (but with the addition of these words) that Allah's messenger (ﷺ) ate (the food) and so did Abu Talha, Umm Sulaim and Anas bin Malik (RA), but there was left something which we presented to our neighbours.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي التُّجِيبِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ ، أَنَّ يَعْقُوبَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا فَوَجَدْتُهُ جَالِسًا مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ وَقَدْ عَصَّبَ بَطْنَهُ بِعِصَابَةٍ ، قَالَ أُسَامَةُ : وَأَنَا أَشُكُّ عَلَى حَجَرٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : لِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ لِمَ عَصَّبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَطْنَهُ ؟ ، فَقَالُوا : مِنَ الْجُوعِ ، فَذَهَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ وَهُوَ زَوْجُ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ بِنْتِ مِلْحَانَ ، فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَصَّبَ بَطْنَهُ بِعِصَابَةٍ ، فَسَأَلْتُ بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِهِ ، فَقَالُوا : مِنَ الْجُوعِ ، فَدَخَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَلَى أُمِّي ، فَقَالَ : هَلْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ عِنْدِي كِسَرٌ مِنْ خُبْزٍ وَتَمَرَاتٌ ، فَإِنْ جَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحْدَهُ أَشْبَعْنَاهُ ، وَإِنْ جَاءَ آخَرُ مَعَهُ ، قَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ سَائِرَ الْحَدِيثِ بِقِصَّتِهِ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I visited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) one day and found him sitting in the company of his Companions and talking to them, and he had tied his belly with a bandage. Usama said: I am in doubt whether there was stone on that (his belly) or not. I asked some of his Companions why Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had bandaged his belly. They said: (He has done that to relieve) his hunger. I went to Abu Talha, the husband of Umm Sulaim, the daughter of Milhan, and said to him: Father, I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having bandaged his belly. I asked some of his Companions (the reason of it) and they said that it was due to hunger. Abu Talha came to my mother and said: Is there anything? She said: Yes, I have some pieces of bread with me and some dates. If Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) comes to us alone we can feed him to his fill, but if someone comes along with him this would be insufficient for them. The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 2040
وحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِر ِ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَعَامِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported this hadith pertaining to the entertainment of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) by Abu Talha through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2041
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِيمَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ ، قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الطَّعَامِ ، فَقَرَّبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُبْزًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ وَمَرَقًا فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : " فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ حَوَالَيِ الصَّحْفَةِ ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ مُنْذُ يَوْمَئِذٍ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: A tailor invited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to a meal which he had prepared. Anas bin Malik (RA) said: I went along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to that feast. He presented to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) barley bread and soup containing pumpkin, and sliced pieces of meat. Anas said: I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) going after the pumpkin round the dish, so I have always liked the pumpkin since that day.
Hadith 2041
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ ، " فَجِيءَ بِمَرَقَةٍ فِيهَا دُبَّاءٌ ، فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الدُّبَّاءِ وَيُعْجِبُهُ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ جَعَلْتُ أُلْقِيهِ إِلَيْهِ وَلَا أَطْعَمُهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَمَا زِلْتُ بَعْدُ يُعْجِبُنِي الدُّبَّاءُ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that a person invited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to a meal. I also went along with him. He brought soup containing pumpkin. Allah's 'messenger (ﷺ) ate that pumpkin with relish. He (Anas) said: When I saw that I began to place it before him, and did not eat it (myself). Anas said: It was since then that pumpkin was always my favourite (food).
