Hadith 1904
وحَدَّثَنَاه إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ : أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الرَّجُلُ يُقَاتِلُ مِنَّا شَجَاعَةً فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ .
It has been narrated (through yet another chain of transmitters) on the same authority, i. e. Abu Musa, who said: We, came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, one of us hho fights to display his valour... (followed by the same words as we have in the previous tradition).
Hadith 1911
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزَاةٍ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ لَرِجَالًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا وَلَا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ حَبَسَهُمُ الْمَرَضُ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir who said: We were with the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) on an expedition. He said: There are some people in Madinah. They are with you whenever you cover a distance or cross a valley. They have been detained by illness.
Hadith 1911
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ ، إِلَّا شَرِكُوكُمْ فِي الْأَجْرِ .
In a version of the tradition narrated on the authority of A'mash, we have the words:" They will share with you the reward (for Jihad)."
Hadith 1994
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " ، هَذَا حَدِيثُ جَرِيرٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ عَبْثَرٍ وَشُعْبَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " .
'Ali reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade to prepare Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar. This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 1995
وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " .
'A'isha reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade (the preparation) of Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar.
Hadith 1995
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي هُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، وَشُعْبَةُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ ، وَحَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ .
The above hadith has been narrated likewise through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2004
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَأَبِي كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْقَعُ لَهُ الزَّبِيبُ ، فَيَشْرَبُهُ الْيَوْمَ وَالْغَدَ وَبَعْدَ الْغَدِ إِلَى مَسَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ ، ثُمَّ يَأْمُرُ بِهِ فَيُسْقَى أَوْ يُهَرَاقُ " .
Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that raisins were steeped in water for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he would drink it on that day and on the next day and on the following day until the evening of the third day. He would then order it to be drunk by (other people) or to be thrown away.
Hadith 2004
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَي بْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْبَذُ لَهُ الزَّبِيبُ فِي السِّقَاءِ ، فَيَشْرَبُهُ يَوْمَهُ وَالْغَدَ وَبَعْدَ الْغَدِ ، فَإِذَا كَانَ مَسَاءُ الثَّالِثَةِ شَرِبَهُ وَسَقَاهُ فَإِنْ فَضَلَ شَيْءٌ أَهَرَاقَهُ " .
Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that Nabidh was prepared from raisins for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in the waterskin and he would drink it on that day and on the next day and the day following and when it was the evening of the third day, and he would drink it and give it to (his Companions) and if something was left over, he threw that away.
Hadith 2011
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَاسْتَسْقَى ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا نَسْقِيكَ نَبِيذًا ؟ ، فَقَالَ : بَلَى ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجَ الرَّجُلُ يَسْعَى فَجَاءَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ نَبِيذٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَّا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ تَعْرُضُ عَلَيْهِ عُودًا " ، قَالَ : فَشَرِبَ .
Jabir b 'Abdullah reported: We were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he asked for water. A person said: Allah's Messenger, may we not give you Nabidh to drink? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes (you may). He (the narrator) said: Then that person went out speedily and brought a cup containing Nabidh, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Why did you not cover it? - even if it is with a wood. He said that then he drank it.
Hadith 2011
وحَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ بِقَدَحٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ مِنَ النَّقِيعِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ تَعْرُضُ عَلَيْهِ عُودًا " .
Jabir reported that a person who was known as Abu Humaid brought for him (the Holy Prophet) a cup of milk from al-Naqi'. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to him: Why did you not cover it even with a wood across it?
Hadith 2017
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا إِذَا حَضَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا لَمْ نَضَعْ أَيْدِيَنَا حَتَّى يَبْدَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَيَضَعَ يَدَهُ وَإِنَّا حَضَرْنَا مَعَهُ مَرَّةً طَعَامًا ، فَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَةٌ كَأَنَّهَا تُدْفَعُ ، فَذَهَبَتْ لِتَضَعَ يَدَهَا فِي الطَّعَامِ ، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهَا ثُمَّ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ كَأَنَّمَا يُدْفَعُ ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَسْتَحِلُّ الطَّعَامَ أَنْ لَا يُذْكَرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ، وَإِنَّهُ جَاءَ بِهَذِهِ الْجَارِيَةِ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهَا ، فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهَا ، فَجَاءَ بِهَذَا الْأَعْرَابِيِّ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهِ ، فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِي مَعَ يَدِهَا " .
Hudhaifa reported: When we attended a dinner along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) we did not lay our hands on the food until Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had laid his hand and commenced eating (the food). Once we went with him to a dinner when a girl came rushingly as if someone had been pursuing her. She was about to lay her hand on the food, when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) caught her hand. Then a desert Arab came there (rushingly) as if someone had been pursuing him. He (the Holy Prophet) caught his hand; and then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Satan considers that food lawful on which Allah's name is not mentioned. He had brought this girl so that the food might be made lawful for him and I caught her hand. And he had brought a desert Arab so that (the food) might be lawful for him. So I caught his hand. By Him, in Whose hand is my life, it was (Satan's) hand that was in my hand along with her hand.
Hadith 2017
وحَدَّثَنَاه إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ الْأَرْحَبِيِّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا إِذَا دُعِينَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى طَعَامٍ ، فَذَكَرَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَقَالَ : كَأَنَّمَا يُطْرَدُ وَفِي الْجَارِيَةِ كَأَنَّمَا تُطْرَدُ وَقَدَّمَ مَجِيءَ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَبْلَ مَجِيءِ الْجَارِيَةِ ، وَزَادَ فِي آخِرِ الْحَدِيثِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ وَأَكَلَ .
Hudhaifa bin al-Yaman reported: When we were invited to a dinner with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ; the rest of hadith is the same but there is a slight variation of wording (and the variation is) that in that hadith the desert Arab precedes the arrival of that girl, and at the conclusion there is an addition (to this effect): "He (the Holy Prophet) then mentioned the name of Allah and ate."
Hadith 2017
وحَدَّثَنِيهِ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ وَقَدَّمَ مَجِيءَ الْجَارِيَةِ قَبْلَ مَجِيءِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2033
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَحْضُرُ أَحَدَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ حَتَّى يَحْضُرَهُ عِنْدَ طَعَامِهِ ، فَإِذَا سَقَطَتْ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمُ اللُّقْمَةُ ، فَلْيُمِطْ مَا كَانَ بِهَا مِنْ أَذًى ثُمَّ لِيَأْكُلْهَا ، وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فَلْيَلْعَقْ أَصَابِعَهُ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِهِ تَكُونُ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: The Satan is present with any one of you in everything he does; he is present even when he eats food; so if any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove away anything filthy on it and eat it and not leave for the devil; and when he finishes (food) he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of his food the blessing lies.
Hadith 2033
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ إِلَى آخِرِ الْحَدِيثِ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَوَّلَ الْحَدِيثِ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَحْضُرُ أَحَدَكُمْ .
This hadith is reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words but no mention is made of the first part of the hadith, i. e. the Satan is present with any one of you.
Hadith 2033
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ذِكْرِ اللَّعْقِ ، وَعَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَان َ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَذَكَرَ اللُّقْمَةَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمَا .
Jabir reported from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about mentioning the licking (of fingers) and the (falling of) the mouthful.
Hadith 2036
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وتقاربا في اللفظ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ ، وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ ، فَرَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَعَرَفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ ، فَقَالَ لِغُلَامِهِ وَيْحَكَ اصْنَعْ لَنَا طَعَامًا لِخَمْسَةِ نَفَرٍ ، فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَدْعُوَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ ، قَالَ : فَصَنَعَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَدَعَاهُ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَاتَّبَعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْبَابَ ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا اتَّبَعَنَا ، فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ رَجَعَ " ، قَالَ : لَا بَلْ آذَنُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ .
Abu Mas'ud Ansari reported that a person from the Ansar who was called Abu Shu'aib had a slave who was a butcher (by profession). He (Abu Mas'ud) saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and found signs of hunger on his face. He said to the servant: O ye, prepare for us food sufficient for five persons, for I intend to invite Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) who would be the fifth amongst the five. He (the narrator) reported that he then prepared the food and came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and invited all the five (including him) who was the fifth amongst them to the feast. A man followed him and when Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) reached the door, he said: This man has followed us; if you like you may permit him (to join the meal) and if you like he can go back. Thereupon the person said: Allah's Messenger, I permit him.
Hadith 2036
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَاه نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ لِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَقِيقُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ،

Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Food for one suffices two and food for two suffices for four.
Hadith 2059
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " طَعَامُ الرَّجُلِ يَكْفِي رَجُلَيْنِ ، وَطَعَامُ رَجُلَيْنِ يَكْفِي أَرْبَعَةً ، وَطَعَامُ أَرْبَعَةٍ يَكْفِي ثَمَانِيَةً " .
Jabir reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Food for one (person) suffices two, and food for two (persons) suffices four persons and food for four persons suffices eight persons.
Hadith 2064
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " مَا عَابَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا قَطُّ ، كَانَ إِذَا اشْتَهَى شَيْئًا أَكَلَهُ وَإِنْ كَرِهَهُ تَرَكَهُ "
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) never found fault with food (served to him). If he liked anything, he ate it and if he did not like it he left it.
Hadith 2064
وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2064
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، وَعَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ أَبُو داود الحفري كلهم ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ .
A hadith like this has been narrated on the authority of A'mash.
Hadith 2064
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالُوا : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَي مَوْلَى آلِ جَعْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَابَ طَعَامًا قَطُّ ، كَانَ إِذَا اشْتَهَاهُ أَكَلَهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَشْتَهِهِ سَكَتَ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: I never saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) finding fault with food (served to him); if he liked it he ate it, and if did not like it he kept silent.
Hadith 2064
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ .

Hadith 2098
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ ، قال : خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ ، فَقَالَ : أَلَا إِنَّكُمْ تَحَدَّثُونَ أَنِّي أَكْذِبُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِتَهْتَدُوا وَأَضِلَّ أَلَا ، وَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ أَحَدِكُمْ ، فَلَا يَمْشِ فِي الْأُخْرَى حَتَّى يُصْلِحَهَا " .
Abu Razin reported: Abu Hurairah (RA) came to us and he struck his forehead with his hand and said: Behold I you talk amongst yourself that I attribute wrongly to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (certain things) in order to guide you to the right path. In such a case, I would myself go astray. Listen. I bear testimony to the fact that I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying: When the thong of any one of you is broken, he should not walk in the second one until he has got it repaired.
Hadith 2098
وحدثينيه عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ وَأَبِي صَالِح ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْمَعْنَى .

Hadith 2109
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرُونَ " ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ الْأَشَجُّ إِنَّ .
'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Verity the most grievously tormented people on the Day of Resurrection would be the painters of pictures. Ashajj (one of the narrators) in the hadith narrated by him did not make mention of the word" verity".
Hadith 2109
وحدثنا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحدثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبِي كُرَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، إِنَّ مِنْ أَشَدِّ أَهْلِ النَّارِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَذَابًا الْمُصَوِّرُونَ ، وَحَدِيثُ سُفْيَانَ كَحَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Abu Mu'awiyahh (RA) through another chain of tranmitters (and the words are):" Verity, the most grievously tormented people amongst the denizens of Hell on the Day of Resurrection would be the painters of pictures. The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 2125
وحدثنا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَازِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of'Abdullah.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنِّي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " ، وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Give the name after my name, but do not give the kunya of Abu'l-Qasim (after my kunya), for I am Abu'l-Qasim (in the sense) that I distribute amongst you (the spoils of war) and disseminate the knowledge (of revelation). This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr (RA) but with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2133
وحدثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَقَالَ : إِنَّمَا جُعِلْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but there is a slight variation (of wording) that, instead of the word Bu'ithat (I have been sent), the word ju'ilat (I have been made) has been used.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَبَلَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ . ح وحدثنا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، وَإِسْحاَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَمَنْصُورٍ ، وَسُلَيْمَانَ ، وَحُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالُوا : سَمِعْنَا سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ مَنْ ذَكَرْنَا حَدِيثَهُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : وَزَادَ فِيهِ حُصَيْنٌ وَسُلَيْمَانُ ، قَالَ حُصَيْنٌ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " ، وقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ .
This hadith has been narrated through different chains of transmitters on the authority of Shu'bah with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2165
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قالت : أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ ، فَقَالُوا : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، قَالَ : " وَعَلَيْكُمْ " ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : قُلْتُ بَلْ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّامُ وَالذَّامُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا عَائِشَةُ : " لَا تَكُونِي فَاحِشَةً " ، فَقَالَتْ : مَا سَمِعْتَ مَا قَالُوا ؟ فَقَالَ : " أَوَلَيْسَ قَدْ رَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي قَالُوا قُلْتُ : وَعَلَيْكُمْ " .
'A'isha reported that some Jews came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and they said: Abu'l-Qasim (the Kunya of the Holy Prophet), as-Sam-u-'Alaikum, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Wa 'Alaikum. A'isha reported: In response to these words of theirs, I said: But let there be death upon you and disgrace also, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'A'isha, do not use harsh words. She said: Did you hear what they said? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Did I not respond to them when they said that; I said to them: Wa'Alaikum (let it be upon you).
Hadith 2165
حَدَّثَنَاه إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : فَفَطِنَتْ بِهِمْ عَائِشَةُ ، فَسَبَّتْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَهْ يَا عَائِشَةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْفُحْشَ وَالتَّفَحُّشَ " ، وَزَادَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَإِذَا جَاءُوكَ حَيَّوْكَ بِمَا لَمْ يُحَيِّكَ بِهِ اللَّهُ سورة المجادلة آية 8 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of A'znash with a slight variation of wording. 'A'isha understood their meaning and cursed them and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'A'isha. (do not do that) for Allah does not like the use of harsh words, and it was at this stage that this verse of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious was revealed: "And when they come to thee, they greet thee with a greeting with which Allah greets thee not" (Iviii. 8) to the end of the verse.
Hadith 2184
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْر ٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا يَتَنَاجَى اثْنَانِ دُونَ صَاحِبِهِمَا ، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُحْزِنُهُ " .
'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: If you are three, two should not converse secretly to the exclusion of your companion for that hurts his feelings.
Hadith 2184
وحدثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ .

Hadith 2191
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا وقَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قالت : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنَّا إِنْسَانٌ مَسَحَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَذْهِبْ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ ، وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا " ، فَلَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَثَقُلَ أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ لِأَصْنَعَ بِهِ نَحْوَ مَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ ، فَانْتَزَعَ يَدَهُ مِنْ يَدِي ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَاجْعَلْنِي مَعَ الرَّفِيقِ الْأَعْلَى " ، قَالَتْ : فَذَهَبْتُ أَنْظُرُ فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ قَضَى .
'A'isha reported: When any person amongst us fell ill, Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) used to rub him with his right hand and then say: O Lord of the people, grant him health, heal him, for Thou art a Great Healer. There is no healer, but with Thy healing Power one is healed and illness is removed. She further added: When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) fell ill, and his illness took a serious turn I took hold of his hand so that I should do with it what he had done with that (i. e. I would rub his body with his sacred hand). But he withdrew his hand from my hand and then said: O Allah, pardon me and make me join the highest companion. She said: I was gazing at him constantly whereas he had passed away.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ . ح وحدثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ . ح وحدثنا ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ . ح وحدثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ بِإِسْنَادِ جَرِيرٍ فِي حَدِيثِ هُشَيْمٍ وَشُعْبَةَ مَسَحَهُ بِيَدِهِ ، قَالَ : وَفِي حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ مَسَحَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ ، وقَالَ : فِي عَقِبِ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَي ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، قال : فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ مَنْصُورًا فَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنَحْوِهِ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Shu'bah through another chain of transmitters (and the words are): "He rubbed him with his hand" and (in) the hadith transmitted on the authority of Thauri (the words are). "He used to rub with his right hand." This hadith has been reported through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2199
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قال : كَانَ لِي خَالٌ يَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ ، فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى ، وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported I had a maternal uncle who treated the sting of the scorpion with the help of incantation. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade incantation. He came to him and said: Allah's Messenger, you forbade to practise incantation, whereas I employ it for curing the sting of the scorpion, whereupon he said: He who amongst you is capable of employing it as a means to do good should do that.
