Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6022M

فحدّثني (2) عبد الله بن أبي يحيى، عن عمرو بن شُعيب، قال: توفي عَمرو بن العاص يومَ الفِطر بمصرَ سنةَ اثنتين وأربعين، وهو والٍ عليها، وسمعتُ مَن يَذكُر أنه تُوفّي سنةَ ثلاثٍ وأربعين، وسمعتُ بعض أهلِ العلم يَذكُر أنه تُوفّي سنة إحدى وخمسين (3). وأصحُّ ما سَمِعْنا في وقت وفاة عمرو بن العاص:
It is narrated from Amr bin Shu'ayb that Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in Egypt on the day of Eid al-Fitr in the year 42 AH, while he was its governor. I heard some people say that he passed away in the year 43 AH, and I heard some of the people of knowledge mention that he died in the year 51 AH. The most correct thing we have heard regarding the time of the death of Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) is this:

(2) القائل: فحدّثني، هو محمد بن عُمر - وهو الواقدي - صاحبُ الخبر السابق.
Note / Clarification: The one who says "fa-haddathani" (and he told me) is "Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi", the narrator of the previous report.

(3) وهو في "الطبقات الكبرى" لابن سعد 5/ 81 عن محمد بن عمر الواقدي.
