It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us, and after praising and glorifying Allah, he said: The truest word is the Book of Allah, the best way is the way of Muhammad, the worst things are newly invented matters. Then, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued mentioning the Day of Judgment, his voice would become louder and his passion would increase, and it seemed as if he was warning against an approaching army. Then he said: I and the Hour have been sent like this. Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his index and middle fingers.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had the opportunity to perform the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, the enemy was positioned between us and the Qiblah. We formed two rows behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir and we also said the takbir with him. Then he bowed (in ruku‘) and we all bowed with him. Then, when he raised his head from ruku‘ and went into prostration (sajdah), only those in the first row performed sajdah with him, while the second row remained standing in front of the enemy. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those in the first row stood up, the people in the back row went into sajdah. After that, the people in the back row came forward and the people in the front row moved to the back. Then we all bowed together, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed sajdah, the first row also performed sajdah, and when they sat, the people in the back row also performed sajdah, and all of us ended the prayer together with salam, just as nowadays your security detachments do with their commanders.

Imam Baqir, may Allah have mercy on him, says that we went to the service of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, and he was among the Banu Salamah. We asked him about the Hajj of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: He said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stayed in Madinah for nine years and did not perform Hajj (after migration). In the tenth year, he, peace and blessings be upon him, announced among the people that the Messenger of Allah would perform Hajj, so many people came to Madinah. Everyone wished to follow the Messenger of Allah and perform all actions as he did. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, set out on the twentieth of Dhu al-Qa'dah, so we also set out with him. When we reached Dhu al-Hulayfah, Asma bint Umays gave birth to Muhammad bin Abi Bakr there, so she sent someone to ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, what should I do? He said: "Take a bath, tie a cloth as a loincloth, and enter into Ihram." Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mounted his camel Qaswa. When his camel straightened at the place of Bida', the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, proclaimed the word of Tawheed and said: «لبيك اللهم لبيك . . . . . . . . .» and the people also recited the same Talbiyah as he did. Some people added "Dhu al-Ma'arij" and other words to it, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, heard this but did not say anything to them. I saw as far as the eye could see, and on the right and left of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, there were people walking and riding. The same was the case behind, on the right and on the left. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was among us, the Qur'an was being revealed to him, he knew its meaning, so whatever he did, we also did in the same way. Sayyiduna Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, said that our intention was only for Hajj. When we reached the House of Allah, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, kissed the Black Stone and performed Raml in three circuits and walked normally in four circuits. Then he came to the Station of Ibrahim and after praying two rak'ahs behind it, he said: «واتخذو من مقام ابراهيم مصلي» and in those two rak'ahs he recited «قل ياايها الكافرون» and «قل هو الله احد». Then he returned near the House of Allah, kissed the Black Stone, and exited towards Safa from the door. When he approached Safa, he recited this verse: «ان الصفا والمروة من شعائر الله» We will also begin with what Allah mentioned first. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began with Safa, climbed Safa, and when he saw the House of Allah, he said Takbir and said: «لا اله الله وحده لاشريك . . . . . . . . الخ » Then he made this supplication in between and repeated these words three times. Then he descended towards Marwah. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began to descend into the valley, he performed Raml (walked briskly, shaking his shoulders) in the low part of the valley. When he began to ascend, he walked at his normal pace, and did on Marwah what he had done on Safa. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, completed the seventh circuit on Marwah, he said: "If I had known earlier what I came to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me and would have made my Hajj an 'Umrah. So whoever among you does not have a sacrificial animal should come out of Ihram and make this Hajj an 'Umrah." So all the people came out of Ihram. Then Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'sham stood up and asked, "Is this command for us for this year only or forever?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, interlocked his fingers and said: "'Umrah has entered into Hajj in this way." Then he said three times: "This command is forever." And Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, arrived from Yemen with the Prophet's sacrificial animals and saw that Sayyidah Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, had come out of Ihram, was wearing colored clothes, and had applied kohl, so he was surprised at this. Sayyidah Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "My father gave me this command." Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say in Kufa that after this I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a state of anger over Fatimah's action and to ask about what Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, had mentioned from him, that during the days of Hajj she came out of Ihram, wore colored clothes, and applied kohl. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "She has spoken the truth, I gave her this command." Then he said: "She has spoken the truth. When you intended Hajj, what did you say?" Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "O Allah, I enter into Ihram with the same intention as Your Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have the sacrificial animal with me, so do not come out of Ihram." And the sacrificial animals that Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, brought from Yemen and those that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, brought from Madinah, all together became one hundred. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, slaughtered sixty-three camels with his own hand and gave the rest to Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, who slaughtered them, and he included him in his sacrifice. Then, according to the command of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a piece of meat from each camel was taken and put in a pot and cooked. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, ate some of that meat and drank its broth. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have offered the sacrifice here, and all of Mina is a place of sacrifice." And after standing in 'Arafat, he said: "I have stood here, and all of 'Arafat is a place of standing." And after standing in Muzdalifah, he said: "I have stood here, and all of Muzdalifah is a place of standing."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said to Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "May Allah protect you from the rule of fools." He asked, "What is the rule of fools, what is meant by it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By this is meant those rulers who will come after me, who will not follow my way and will not adopt my Sunnah. Those who affirm their lies and assist them in their oppression, they have no connection with me and I have no connection with them, and these people will not be able to come to me at the Pond of Kawthar. But those who do not affirm their lies and do not assist them in their oppression, they are from me and I am from them, and soon they will come to me at the Pond of Kawthar. O Ka'b bin Ujrah! Fasting is a shield, charity erases sins, prayer is a means of nearness to Allah, or he said, it is a proof. O Ka'b bin Ujrah! No being whose nourishment is from the unlawful will be able to enter Paradise, and Hell is more deserving of him. O Ka'b bin Ujrah! People will be divided into two groups: some will purchase their souls and free them, and some will purchase them and destroy them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The owner of camels who does not pay their due right, those camels will come on the Day of Resurrection in the most robust form, and soft ground will be spread for them, upon which they will trample their owner with their feet and hooves. And the owner of cows who does not pay their due right, those cows will come on the Day of Resurrection healthier than before, and soft ground will be spread for them; they will gore him with their horns and trample him under their feet. And the owner of goats who does not pay their due right, those goats will appear healthier on the Day of Resurrection; soft ground will be spread for them, and they will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hooves. Among those goats, there will be none without horns or with broken horns. And the owner of a treasure who does not pay its due right, on the Day of Resurrection his treasure will come in the form of a bald-headed snake, and with its mouth open, it will chase him. When it reaches its owner, he will run away upon seeing it. At that time, the Lord of the worlds will call out to him: "Take hold of your treasure, which you used to hoard. I was more independent of it than you." When that person sees that there is no way to escape from that snake, he will put his hand in its mouth, and the snake will chew his hand as a bull chews.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, however, there is an addition in it that when a man heard this, he submitted in the presence of the Messenger: O Messenger of Allah! What is the right of camels? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: To milk it at the water, to give its bucket to someone who asks, to give its male to someone who asks, to give it as a gift, and to ride it at the time of jihad in the way of Allah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Makkah for ten years, and during the markets of ‘Ukaz, Majannah, and the season of Hajj, he would go to the people in the plain of Mina at their dwellings and meet them, and he would say: “Who will give me shelter in his home? Who will help me so that I may convey the message of my Lord, and he will be granted Paradise?” Sometimes a man would come from Yemen or Egypt, and the people of his tribe would come to him and say: “Beware of this young man from Quraysh, lest he mislead you.” When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pass by their tents, they would point at him with their fingers, until Allah raised us up for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from Yathrib, and we gave him shelter and affirmed him. Thus, one of us would go out, believe in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would teach him the Qur’an. When he returned home, by the blessing of his Islam, his family would also become Muslim, until there was no house of the Ansar left in which there was not a group of Muslims, and all these people would openly declare Islam.

One day, all the people gathered for consultation and said: “How long will we leave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this state, that he is being driven about in the mountains of Makkah and lives in fear?” So, seventy men from among us set out towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and reached him during the days of Hajj. We agreed among ourselves to meet in a valley, and we gathered with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one by one or two by two, until when we were all present, we said: “O Messenger of Allah! On what condition should we pledge allegiance to you?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will listen and obey in both activity and inactivity, in hardship and ease, and spend in all circumstances, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and that you will not fear the blame of any blamer for speaking the truth, and that you will help me and protect me in the same way you protect yourselves, your wives, and your children. And in return, you will have Paradise.” So we stood up and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna As‘ad bin Zurara (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the youngest, took the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O people of Yathrib! Wait. We have come here after enduring hardship with our camels so that we may be certain that he is the Messenger of Allah. (Understand this:) Today, taking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) away from here means separating yourselves from the entire Arab world, having your best men killed, and facing the sword. If you can be patient upon this, then your reward is with Allah. But if you fear any cowardice in yourselves, then make it clear now, so that it may be an excuse for you before Allah.” Upon this, all the Ansar said: “As‘ad! Move aside. By Allah! We will never abandon this pledge nor end it.” Thus, in this way, we pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from us on the promise and conditions of being granted Paradise.
