حَدِيثُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 26711
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : " أَعْتَقَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ ، وَاشْتَرَطَتْ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أَخْدُمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا عَاشَ " .
It is narrated from Safina that Umm Salama freed me and set the condition that I would serve the Prophet (peace be upon him) for the rest of his life.
Hadith 26712
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ : " تَغْتَسِلُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl of janabah from the same vessel.
Hadith 26713
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَأَخْرَجَتْ إِلَيْنَا شَعْرًا مِنْ شَعْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَخْضُوبًا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ " .
Usman bin Abdullah says that once we went to Umm Salama, and she showed us a hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which had turned red because it was dyed with henna and katam.
Hadith 26714
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّهَا قَدِمَتْ وَهِيَ مَرِيضَةٌ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " طُوفِي مِنْ وَرَاءِ النَّاسِ وَأَنْتِ رَاكِبَةٌ " , قَالَتْ : فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَهُوَ عِنْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ يَقْرَأُ بِالطُّورِ , قَالَ أَبِي : وَقَرَأْتُهُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , قَالَتْ : فَطُفْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَئِذٍ يُصَلِّي بِجَنْبِ الْبَيْتِ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ بِالطُّورِ ، وَكِتَابٍ مَسْطُورٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when she reached Makkah Mukarramah, she was ill. She mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You should perform Tawaf while riding, staying behind the people." Hazrat Umm Salamah says: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting Surah At-Tur near the Ka'bah."
Hadith 26715
قُرَّأتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ : سُئِلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَأَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا ، فَقَالَ : ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : آخِرَ الْأَجَلَيْنِ ، وَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : إِذَا وَلَدَتْ ، فَقَدْ حَلَّتْ ، فَدَخَلَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَأَلَهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَتْ : وَلَدَتْ سُبَيْعَةُ الْأَسْلَمِيَّةُ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ زَوْجِهَا بِنِصْفِ شَهْرٍ ، فَخَطَبَهَا رَجُلَانِ ، أَحَدُهُمَا شَابٌّ وَالْآخَرُ كَهْلٌ ، فَحَطَّتْ إِلَى الشَّابِّ ، فَقَالَ الْكَهْلُ : لَمْ تَحِلَّ ، وَكَانَ أَهْلُهَا غُيَّبًا ، وَرَجَا إِذَا جَاءَ أَهْلُهَا أَنْ يُؤْثِرُوهُ ، فَجَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " قَدْ حَلَلْتِ ، فَانْكِحِي مَنْ شِئْتِ " .
Abu Salamah says that once there was a difference of opinion between Abu Hurairah and Ibn Abbas regarding a woman whose husband passes away and she gives birth to a child. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that after giving birth she can marry, while Ibn Abbas said that she will complete the longer of the two waiting periods. Then they sent a messenger to Umm Salamah, and she said that Sabi’ah bint Harith’s husband had passed away, and only fifteen days, that is, half a month after his death, she gave birth to a child. Then two men sent proposals of marriage to Sabi’ah, and she inclined towards one of them. When people realized that she might choose one of them, they said, “You are not yet lawful (for marriage).” She went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “You have become lawful, so you may marry whomever you wish.”
Hadith 26716
قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ تُهَرَاقُ الدَّمَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَاسْتَفْتَتْ لَهَا أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " لِتَنْظُرْ عِدَّةَ اللَّيَالِي وَالْأَيَّامِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَحِيضُهُنَّ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصِيبَهَا الَّذِي أَصَابَهَا ، فَلْتَتْرُكْ الصَّلَاةَ قَدْرَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ ، فَإِذَا بَلَغَتْ ذَلِكَ ، فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ ، ثُمَّ تَسْتَثْفِرْ بِثَوْبٍ ، ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Hazrat Fatimah bint Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My blood keeps flowing continuously." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "That is not menstruation; it is blood from a vein. You should estimate the days of your menstruation and sit aside during those days. Then perform ghusl, tie a cloth, and offer prayers."
Hadith 26717
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : جَاءَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَوَارِيثَ بَيْنَهُمَا قَدْ دُرِسَتْ ، لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَيِّنَةٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَيَّ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَلْحَنُ بِحُجَّتِهِ أَوْ قَدْ قَالَ لِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ , فَإِنِّي أَقْضِي بَيْنَكُمْ عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا أَسْمَعُ ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا ، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهُ ، فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ يَأْتِي بِهَا إِسْطَامًا فِي عُنُقِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " , فَبَكَى الرَّجُلَانِ ، وَقَالَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا : حَقِّي لِأَخِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَا إِذْ قُلْتُمَا ، فَاذْهَبَا فَاقْتَسِمَا ، ثُمَّ تَوَخَّيَا الْحَقَّ ، ثُمَّ اسْتَهِمَا ، ثُمَّ لِيَحْلِلْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمَا صَاحِبَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once two Ansaris brought their case regarding inheritance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they did not have any witnesses with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people bring your disputes to me. It is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on his argument. (Therefore, remember) if I accept someone's statement and decide in his favor regarding his brother's right, then understand that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him, which he will hang around his neck on the Day of Resurrection." Upon hearing this, both of them began to weep and each said, "This is my brother's right." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this is the case, then go and divide it, draw lots in the right way, and make each other lawful for it."
Hadith 26718
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ أَحَبُّ الْعَمَلِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا دَامَ عَلَيْهِ ، وَإِنْ قَلَّ " .
Someone asked Hazrat Aisha and Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with them) which deed was most beloved to the Prophet (peace be upon him). They replied: That which is done consistently, even if it is little.
Hadith 26719
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ فَرُّوخَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُقَبِّلُنِي وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَأَنَا صَائِمَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss me while he was fasting, and I would also be fasting.
Hadith 26720
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى الصَّهْبَاءِ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ سورة الممتحنة آية 12 , قَالَ : " النَّوْحُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By "and that they will not disobey you in what is right" is meant that women pledge allegiance on the condition that they will not wail (lament for the dead).
Hadith 26721
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الصُّفَيْرَا ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ابْنُ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا ، وَانْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا ، خَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ فِيَّ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ : أَنَا امْرَأَةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْكِ " ، قَالَتْ : وَأَنَا امْرَأَةٌ غَيُورٌ , قَالَ : " أَدْعُو اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، فَيُذْهِبُ عَنْكِ غَيْرَتَكِ " , قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , وَأَنَا امْرَأَةٌ مُصْبِيَةٌ , قَالَ : " هُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ " , قَالَ : فَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : فَأَتَاهَا ، فَوَجَدَهَا تُرْضِعُ ، فَانْصَرَفَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهَا ، فَوَجَدَهَا تُرْضِعُ ، فَانْصَرَفَ , قَالَ : فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ ، فَأَتَاهَا ، فَقَالَ : حُلْتِ بَيْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبَيْنَ حَاجَتِهِ ، هَلُمَّ الصَّبِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذَهَا ، فَاسْتَرْضَعَ لَهَا ، فَأَتَاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَيْنَ زُنَابُ ؟ " يَعْنِي زَيْنَبَ , قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَخَذَهَا عَمَّارٌ , فَدَخَلَ بِهَا ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ كَرَامَةً " , قَالَ : فَأَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا إِلَى الْعَشِيِّ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ ، وَإِنْ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ ، سَبَّعْتُ لِسَائِرِ نِسَائِي ، وَإِنْ شِئْتِ ، قَسَمْتُ لَكِ " , قَالَتْ : لَا ، بَلْ اقْسِمْ لِي .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that after the death of Abu Salamah and the completion of her waiting period (‘iddah), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent her a proposal of marriage. She said, "O Messenger of Allah! There are three qualities in me: I am old in age." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I am older than you." She said, "I am a jealous woman." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will pray to Allah, and He will remove your jealousy." She said, "I have children." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "They are under the responsibility of Allah and His Messenger." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her.
Then, whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her for privacy, as soon as she saw him, she would take her daughter Zainab and seat her in her lap, and eventually the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave in the same way. When Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir, who was the foster brother of Hazrat Umm Salamah, came to know of this, he came to Hazrat Umm Salamah and said, "Where is that dirty girl through whom you have been causing harm to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" and he took her away with him.
This time, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and entered the house, he looked around in all four corners of the room and then asked about the girl, "Where has Zanab (Zainab) gone?" She replied, "Ammar came and took her with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had privacy with her and said, "If you wish, I can spend seven days with you, but then I will have to spend seven days with each of my other wives as well." She said, "No, please fix my turn (as usual)."
Then, whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her for privacy, as soon as she saw him, she would take her daughter Zainab and seat her in her lap, and eventually the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave in the same way. She said, "O Messenger of Allah! There are three qualities in me: I am old in age." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I am older than you." She said, "I am a jealous woman." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will pray to Allah, and He will remove your jealousy." She said, "I have children." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "They are under the responsibility of Allah and His Messenger." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her.
Then, whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her for privacy, as soon as she saw him, she would take her daughter Zainab and seat her in her lap, and eventually the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave in the same way. When Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir, who was the foster brother of Hazrat Umm Salamah, came to know of this, he came to Hazrat Umm Salamah and said, "Where is that dirty girl through whom you have been causing harm to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" and he took her away with him.
This time, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and entered the house, he looked around in all four corners of the room and then asked about the girl, "Where has Zanab (Zainab) gone?" She replied, "Ammar came and took her with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had privacy with her and said, "If you wish, I can spend seven days with you, but then I will have to spend seven days with each of my other wives as well." She said, "No, please fix my turn (as usual)."

Hadith 26723
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ابْنِ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يُصَابُ بِمُصِيبَةٍ ، فَيَقُولُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ ، وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي ، وَاخْلُفْ عَلَيَّ بِخَيْرٍ مِنْهَا ، إِلَّا فُعِلَ بِهِ ذَلِكَ " , قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : هَذَا ، فَآجَرَنِي اللَّهُ فِي مُصِيبَتِي ، فَمَنْ يَخْلُفُ عَلَيَّ مَكَانَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ؟ فَلَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا ، خَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a person is afflicted by a calamity and says 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' and then supplicates, 'O Allah! Reward me for my affliction and grant me something better in exchange for it,' Allah Almighty will reward him for his affliction and grant him something better in exchange for it." When my husband Abu Salamah passed away, I thought, "Who could be better than Abu Salamah?" Yet Allah Almighty gave me the strength of dignity, and I recited this supplication. After my waiting period ('iddah) was over, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me a proposal of marriage.
Hadith 26724
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَحْلَاءَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَبِي سَلَمَةَ : إِنَّ ظِئْرَكَ سُلَيْمًا لَا يَتَوَضَّأُ مِمَّا مَسَّتْ النَّارُ , قَالَ : فَضَرَبَ صَدْرَ سُلَيْمٍ , وَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنْهَا كَانَتْ تَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يَتَوَضَّأُ مِمَّا مَسَّتْ النَّارُ " .
Muhammad bin Tahlah says that I said to Abu Salamah that the husband of your wet nurse, Salim, does not perform a new ablution after eating something cooked on fire. So he struck Salim on the chest and said, "I bear witness regarding Umm Salamah, who was the honorable wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), that she bore witness regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he used to perform ablution after eating something cooked on fire."
Hadith 26725
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبْعٍ ، أَوْ خَمْسٍ ، لَا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُنَّ بِكَلَامٍ وَلَا تَسْلِيمٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Witr with seven or five rak‘ahs, and he would not separate them with salam or speech in any way.
Hadith 26726
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، قَالَتْ : وَالَّذِي ذَهَبَ بِنَفْسِهِ ، مَا مَاتَ حَتَّى كَانَ " أَكْثَرُ صَلَاتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ، وَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَيْهِ الْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ الَّذِي يَدُومُ عَلَيْهِ الْعَبْدُ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ يَسِيرًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that at the time of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) passing, most of his prayers were performed sitting, and the most beloved deed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) was that which was done consistently, even if it was little.
Hadith 26727
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ وَهُوَ فِي الْمَوْتِ : " الصَّلَاةَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ " , فَجَعَلَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهَا ، وَمَا يَفِيضُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the last advice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was to take care of the prayer and to treat your slaves well. While repeating this, the blessed chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to rattle and his tongue became still.
Hadith 26728
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ ضَبَّةَ بْنِ مُحْصِنٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " سَيَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ ، يَعْرِفُونَ وَيُنْكِرُونَ ، فَمَنْ عَرَفَ بَرِئَ ، وَمَنْ أَنْكَرَ سَلِمَ ، وَلَكِنْ مَنْ رَضِيَ وَتَابَعَ " , قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَفَلَا نُقَاتِلُ فُجَّارَهُمْ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، مَا صَلَّوْا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon there will come six rulers, some of whose habits you will find good and some you will disapprove of. So whoever disapproves will be free of responsibility, and whoever expresses dislike will remain safe. However, the one who is pleased and follows them (his case is different). The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, should we not fight against them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No, as long as they lead you in the five prayers."
Hadith 26729
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ , قَالَ : " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : أَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي أَنَّهُ قَدْ قَالَهَا , قَالَ : وَقَدْ ذَكَرَهُ سُفْيَانُ عَنْهُ ، وَلَيْسَ فِي بَقِيَّتِهِ شَكٌّ , اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أَزِلَّ ، أَوْ أَظْلِمَ أو أُظْلَم ، أَوْ أَجْهَلَ أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَيَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave the house, he would recite this supplication: In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. O Allah! We seek refuge with You from slipping or being led astray, or committing injustice or being wronged, or behaving ignorantly or having ignorance shown to us.
Hadith 26730
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا مَاتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى : كَانَ أَكْثَرَ صَلَاتِهِ قَاعِدًا غَيْرَ الْفَرِيضَةِ ، وَكَانَ أَحَبُّ الْعَمَلِ إِلَيْهِ أَدْوَمَهُ وَإِنْ قَلَّ " .

Hadith 26731
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ مَوْلًى لِأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ يُسَلِّمُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا ، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا ، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate after the Fajr prayer: O Allah! I ask You for beneficial knowledge, accepted deeds, and lawful sustenance.
Hadith 26732
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ النَّحْوِيُّ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ : " قَرَأَ إِنَّهُ عَمِلَ غَيْرَ صَالِحٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse from Surah Hud in this way: "Indeed, he is an unrighteous deed."
Hadith 26733
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : كَانَ " يُفْرَشُ لِي حِيَالَ مُصَلَّى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي وَأَنَا حِيَالُهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that my bed used to be laid directly in front of the prayer place of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I used to be lying in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was offering prayer.
Hadith 26734
حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خُصَيْفٌ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الذَّهَبِ يُرْبَطُ بِهِ الْمِسْكُ أَوْ تُرْبَطُ ، قَالَ : " اجْعَلِيهِ فِضَّةً ، وَصَفِّرِيهِ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ زَعْفَرَانٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Should we not mix a little musk with gold?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Why do you not mix it with silver, then mix it with saffron, by which that silver will also become like gold."
Hadith 26735
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : لَبِسْتُ قِلَادَةً فِيهَا شَعَرَاتٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، قَالَتْ : فَرَآهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يُؤَمِّنُكِ أَنْ يُقَلِّدَكِ اللَّهُ مَكَانَهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَعَرَاتٍ مِنْ نَارٍ " , قَالَتْ : فَنَزَعْتُهَا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once I wore a necklace which had gold threads in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it and, turning away from me, said: "Who has made you fearless of the fact that Allah, the Exalted, may make you wear threads of fire in place of this on the Day of Resurrection?" So I took it off.
Hadith 26736
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، يَغْزُو الرِّجَالُ ، وَلَا نَغْزُو ، وَلَنَا نِصْفُ الْمِيرَاثِ ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : وَلا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سورة النساء آية 32 .
It is narrated from Mujahid that once Hazrat Umm Salamah submitted in the court of the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah, men participate in jihad but we cannot participate in it, and then we also receive only half the inheritance?" Upon this, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "Do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you excel others."
Hadith 26737
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَرَتْنِي شَعْرًا مِنْ شَعْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَخْضُوبًا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ " .
Usman bin Abdullah says that once we went to Umm Salama, and she showed us a hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which had turned red because it was dyed with henna and katam.
Hadith 26738
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ ، فَلَمَّا كَبِرَ وَضَعُفَ ، أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that previously the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Witr with thirteen rak'ahs, but when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grew older and became weak, he started performing Witr with seven rak'ahs.
Hadith 26739
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمْ الْمَيِّتَ أَوْ الْمَرِيضَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا ، فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you visit a dying or sick person, pray for good for him, because the angels say Ameen to your supplication.
Hadith 26740
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ اسْتُحِيضَتْ ، وَكَانَتْ تَغْتَسِلُ فِي مِرْكَنٍ لَهَا ، فَتَخْرُجُ وَهِيَ عَالِيَةُ الصُّفْرَةِ وَالْكُدْرَةِ ، فَاسْتَفْتَتْ لَهَا أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " تَنْتَظِرُ أَيَّامَ قُرْئِهَا أَوْ أَيَّامَ حَيْضِهَا فَتَدَعُ فِيهِ الصَّلَاةَ ، وَتَغْتَسِلُ فِيمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ ، وَتَسْتَثْفِرُ بِثَوْبٍ ، وَتُصَلِّي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh used to have continuous bleeding (istihada). When she would bathe in her tub and come out, there would be a predominance of yellowness and muddiness on its surface. Hazrat Umm Salamah asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about its ruling. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that she should wait for as many days and nights as she used to face impurity previously, and estimate those days in the month, and leave the prayer for that many days. After that, she should bathe, tie a cloth, and start praying.
Hadith 26741
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَوْنٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ شَدَّادِ بْنِ الْهَادِ يُحَدِّثُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ مَرْوَانُ : كَيْفَ نَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا عَنْ شَيْءٍ وَفِينَا أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلَهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " فَنَشَلْتُ لَهُ كَتِفًا مِنْ قِدْرٍ ، فَأَكَلَ مِنْهَا ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate the meat of the shoulder. During this, Hazrat Bilal came, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) went for prayer without touching water.
Hadith 26742
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , " أَنَّ قِرَاءَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَتْ فَوَصَفَتْ ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 ، حَرْفًا حَرْفًا ، قِرَاءَةً بَطِيئَةً , قَطَّعَ عَفَّانُ قِرَاءَتَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that she demonstrated by reciting the first three verses of Surah Al-Fatihah separately (pausing at the end of each verse).
Hadith 26743
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي الْحَذَّاءَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي لِحَافٍ ، فَأَصَابَهَا الْحَيْضُ ، فَقَالَ : " قُومِي ، فَاتَّزِرِي ، ثُمَّ عُودِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) under a blanket when my menstruation started. I began to move away, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go and tie a waist-wrapper and come back!"
Hadith 26744
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ , رَأَتْ نَسِيبًا لَهَا يَنْفُخُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْجُدَ ، فَقَالَتْ : لَا تَنْفُخْ ، فَإِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِغُلَامٍ لَنَا يُقَالُ : لَهُ رَبَاحٌ : " تَرِّبْ وَجْهَكَ يَا رَبَاحُ " .
Abu Salih says that once I was present in the service of Hazrat Umm Salamah. During this time, one of her nephews also came there and he offered two rak'ahs in her house. During the prayer, when he was about to go into prostration, he blew to remove the dust, so Hazrat Umm Salamah said to him, "Nephew, do not blow, because I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) once say to his servant whose name was Yasar, and he had also blown, 'Let your face become dusty for Allah.'"
Hadith 26745
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، عَنْ أُخْتِهِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا ، فَيَصُومُ ، وَلَا يُفْطِرُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes, at the time of morning, ghusl (ritual bath) would become obligatory upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by choice, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would still fast and would not skip it.
Hadith 26746
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ لِفَاطِمَةَ : " ائْتِينِي بِزَوْجِكِ وَابْنَيْكِ " , فَجَاءَتْ بِهِمْ ، فَأَلْقَى عَلَيْهِمْ كِسَاءً فَدَكِيًّا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، فَاجْعَلْ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَبَرَكَاتِكَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ " , قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَرَفَعْتُ الْكِسَاءَ لِأَدْخُلَ مَعَهُمْ ، فَجَذَبَهُ مِنْ يَدِي ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّكِ عَلَى خَيْرٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Fatimah to call her husband and children as well. So Hazrat Ali and Hasan and Husain also came. The Prophet (peace be upon him) took a cloak of Fadak and covered all of them with it, and then he extended his hand outside and pointed towards the sky and said: O Allah, these are my Ahl al-Bayt, so send Your mercy and blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. Upon this, I (Umm Salamah) entered my head into the room and said: O Messenger of Allah, am I also with you? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You are also upon goodness, you are also upon goodness.
Hadith 26747
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ الْمُهَاجِرِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَيُخْسَفَنَّ بِقَوْمٍ يَغْزُونَ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ " , فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمْ الْكَارِهُ ؟ قَالَ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that army which will be swallowed by the earth. Hazrat Umm Salamah submitted, "It is possible that there may be people in that army who were forced to join it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "They will be resurrected according to their intentions."
Hadith 26748
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَدَلِيِّ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَقَالَتْ لِي : أَيُسَبُّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيكُمْ ؟ قُلْتُ : مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ ، أَوْ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ سَبَّ عَلِيًّا ، فَقَدْ سَبَّنِي " .
Abu Abdullah Jadali says that once I presented myself in the service of Hazrat Umm Salamah, and she said to me, "Is the Prophet (peace be upon him) being spoken ill of in your presence?" I said, "God forbid! How can this be possible?" She said, "I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Whoever speaks ill of Ali, speaks ill of me."
Hadith 26749
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُبَارَكٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ أَبُو شُجَاعٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ هُرْمُزَ الْأَعْرَجَ , يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي نَاعِمٌ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ , أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ سُئِلَتْ : أَتَغْتَسِلُ الْمَرْأَةُ مَعَ الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، إِذَا كَانَتْ كَيِّسَةً ، رَأَيْتُنِي وَرَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَغْتَسِلُ مِنْ مِرْكَنٍ وَاحِدٍ ، نُفِيضُ عَلَى أَيْدِينَا حَتَّى نُنْقِيَهَا ، ثُمَّ نُفِيضُ عَلَيْنَا الْمَاءَ " .
Someone asked Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) whether a woman can perform ghusl (ritual bath) with a man. She replied, "Yes, as long as she is sensible (meaning, she is his wife). I have seen the time when I and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl from the same tub. First, we would pour water over our hands and clean them thoroughly, then we would pour water over our bodies."
Hadith 26750
حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُبَارَكٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ , تَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ وَيَوْمَ الْأَحَدِ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا يَصُومُ مِنَ الْأَيَّامِ , وَيَقُولُ : " إِنَّهُمَا عِيدَا الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أُخَالِفَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast more frequently on Saturdays and Sundays than on other days, and he used to say that these are the festival days of the polytheists, so I want to act contrary to them.
